Having visited and lived in Tanzania for the past eight years, this book caught my attention. I have enjoyed every word, and was totally involved with the overlapping intertwining characters both human and elephants, not to mention the spiritual aspects.
Highly recommended, this is a lovely book to read. Characters of both elephants and humans are well drawn, intriguing and often endearing.
The following elephants or elephant-like figures occur in mythology and religion: Airavata, elephant ridden by the Hindu god Indra · Erawan, Thai version of. Ganesha also known as Ganapati, Vinayaka, Pillaiyar and Binayak, is one of the best-known Although he is known by many attributes, Ganesha's elephant head makes him easy to identify. Ganesha is widely revered As the god of beginnings, he is honoured at the start of rites and ceremonies. Ganesha is also invoked.
The writer succeeds in closely involving the reader with his characters' experiences and decisions. The positive and ultimately optimistic nature of the narrative is rewarding and there are so many imaginative ideas in the book that you find yourself constantly waiting to know and understand a bit more. Whether you think you like "animal books" or not, try "God's Elephants" as something new and different to read.
In his last book, Tod imbued dolphins, quite believably, with a culture and spiritual destiny; this time he has turned his attention, with even greater confidence and credibility, to elephants. This new book is impressive on many levels - as an exotically-located, highly imaginative adventure story, as a colourful, brilliantly-observed wildlife tale, and as a mind-expanding, inspirational, philosophical journey.
Tod's huge success as a self-published author is fast becoming a legend - and this book will surely boost that reputation, as well as giving enormous satisfaction to his fans. See all 4 reviews. There's a problem loading this menu right now.
