I hate what he did and I hope he redeems himself in book 2. Yes this a short book but seriously it felt a bit rushed. I love short reads. I love long reads. I love the in betweens but there was no real character development of Jenna and Rex which I am hoping to see in book two. I actually loved the cliffhanger in this book and the ending when her BFF revealed the news that Jenna so did not want to hear Sep 01, Rob rated it it was amazing Shelves: I really enjoyed this book.
The whole story centred on a group of kids bullying a girl called Jenna. Jenna was a victim. She was bullied by Corey and his friends and family. They pick on something and they are like a dog with a bone and never let go. Jenna had a friend, Mimi. But to be honest, I was shocked to read that Mimi was in cahoots with Cor I really enjoyed this book.
But to be honest, I was shocked to read that Mimi was in cahoots with Corey and openly flirted with him. I felt she was disloyal to Jenna, despite supposedly being her best friend.
Rex…well he started off as a nice guy but then is he nice? Or is he a sheep in wolves clothing? I enjoyed the conversations between the characters. I liked the humour but I particularly liked it when the worm turned! I have to say well done to the author who has captured the very essence of the damage bullying does. Oct 07, Erin McKinley Carnevale rated it it was amazing. Five stars for the story but it needs to be reedited.
This book is about an innocent girl who gets bullied for something she didn't do and had no control over. I hate bullies and my highschool was filled with them too. These ppl tho are insane. That boy needs meds STAT!
I liked Mimi till I found out what she did and that's forgivable and all but then she felt she should defend the asshole that's been hurting Jenna this whole time. He was shady from the start I liked it. He was shady from the start but then tried to redeem himself in the end. For me, that's too late, period! I'm so glad Jenna basically told him and everyone at that school to fuck off!
Now for book I hope Jenna keeps her backbone cuz the jackasses will still be in her life.. Jul 13, Tiffy rated it did not like it. This book was full of errors and awful grammar. I believe with more time it could have been better, but then to make it better the whole book needed to change and it wouldn't have been close to being the same. Dec 23, Liesbet marked it as dnf. This was just so horribly written that I could not go on. So many repetitions, so much incorrect grammar, I still cringe remembering it Sep 16, Jennifer rated it did not like it Shelves: Bittersweet Revenge was not a good book.
Thankfully it was short, but still it was painful to read. It didn't really make sense most of the time. The things Jenna thought and did I didn't get. It was just confusing and I did not enjoy it at all. So Jenna dated Corey last year, but after they broke up he started spreading rumors about how she is a slut. Slutty slut slut slut slut. Slut was used way too often in the beginning of the book. Jenna hasn't slept with anyone so she of course is not a sl Bittersweet Revenge was not a good book.
Jenna hasn't slept with anyone so she of course is not a slut. Not like Marie who "was in fact the town slut. That's wasn't me putting shame on her. Slut is such an empowering, positive word Like you know what it is like to be called that so why bring someone else down to that level, even if you don't say it to anyone else?
So then Rex shows up at the beginning of the school year and he is just oh so good looking Jenna just cannot help herself. There was no real connection between the two of them besides a physical attraction, but of course it is like love you guys! Okay so Rex is Corey's cousin and she doesn't really trust him, but then she does. But then she doesn't.
Her best friend Mimi. We were TOLD not shown. Well, you're about find out. Thanks for telling us about the problem. I really liked this story and I am extremely excited to devour the next book in this series! Anyway, it was a good book but Jenna just didn't do it for me and I'll give the next book a try but the only way Jenna can redeem herself in my eyes is to be more mature and willingly to listen and not get lost in anger.
Who knows what is going on. Jenna's bff Mimi overhears Rex tell someone else something like leave her alone. Don't mess with her. Jenna assumes she is the her he is refering to and somehow this means that Rex is planning something horrible against her. I have no idea. It made no sense to me, but then again that is the way the whole story read. Leave her alone means I am going to do something terrible to her.
So how about the bff and really only friend of Jenna's? Well she is a real winner. I have no idea why they were even friends. Jenna finds that Mimi is flirting with Corey and they kissed over the summer and freaks out. Well freaks out until Mimi is all omg it is not my fault! I didn't do anything! Yep, cause flirting with someone is forced on you by the other person.
There is no way you could not flirt.
Eye roll so hard. None of my friends would ever go near someone who made my life a living hell like Corey did. They are my friends. Way to stick by your friend Mimi It was odd that she would flirt with the guy who terrorized her friend. The story didn't make much sense to me, I didn't see the connections between any of them, the reason for Corey's actions are idiotic and made no sense, really the whole thing was a bunch of awfulness. The whole ending was also like argh! Why am I reading this? It just was too much. I didn't like Jenna, even though she was the victim here, and her friend was terrible.
Corey was terrible, but didn't seem real, and Rex was just this good looking guy so Jenna couldn't stay away.
Not good, not good at all. This review was originally posted to Jen in Bookland Aug 17, Elizabeth Your Ordinary Bookworm rated it it was ok. I had a hard time enjoying this book. Part of it was just not me getting into the story and the other part was the main character Jenna. The book was good with some grammatical error and such but I couldn't connect with Jenna or enjoy the writing. Jenna felt too immature and too angry and too quick to judge before anyone got a word in.
She did deserve to be angry and slow to trust but not every time someone made a mistake because people make mistakes all the tim Initial Thoughts: She did deserve to be angry and slow to trust but not every time someone made a mistake because people make mistakes all the time. Rex was a great character I really liked him. He was really sweet and I hate how Jenna's anger and lack of listening got in the way of things that happen between them and other parts of the story.
She says she has trust issues because of being bullied but I felt that was just an excuse to push everyone away sometimes.
I didn't really like her best friend Mimi. She didn't feel like a best friend to me. Yes she wasn't afraid to stand up for Jenna but besides that I didn't get any best friend vibe from her and I really wished I had. Jenna's been bullied for awhile from her ex-boyfriend, Corey, and other students. On the first day of school there is a new kid and he happens to be Corey's cousin. So of course she immediately hates him but after getting detention with him she is forced to spend time with him.
Jenna learns that he is nothing like is cousin but she is still wary or him because apparently everyone is out get her and tell her lies like I said, trust issues. As the story goes along, things happen and secrets start popping up between everyone. Or so it seems as some of the secrets don't seem to be a big deal to me as they do to Jenna. Again, her impulsiveness made things a bigger deal than they were. It actually started out pretty well between Jenna and Rex and I liked them but then the whole trust issue and thinking everyone was hiding things from her kept getting in the way.
Jenna needed someone to help her and Rex was perfect but she wasn't taking any step to reach out to others and become a stronger, better person and that was a huge let down. I really hope the second book will have them develop their relationship better cause I still really want things to work out in the end. Anyway, it was a good book but Jenna just didn't do it for me and I'll give the next book a try but the only way Jenna can redeem herself in my eyes is to be more mature and willingly to listen and not get lost in anger.
If not for those qualities I really would have loved it. Also I think it would have helped if the book was longer as it's only pages. Jul 24, Laura Greenwood rated it really liked it Shelves: Review forthcoming on http: I received a copy of Bittersweet Revenge in exchange for my review. Jenna's life has been hell for the past year because of the rumours that Corey has spread around the school.
Other than the fact that she refused to have sex with him, Jenna can't think of anything that has made Corey hate her so much. But then Corey's cousin, Rex, comes to town, and Jenna finds herself quickly falling for him and his sincerity. Meanwhile something see Review forthcoming on http: Meanwhile something seems to be going on with her best friend Mimi and Corey, though definitely not of the love sense, there seems to be much more to their relationship than dislike Link to Goodreads The first thing that I feel I should say about this book is that there is no happily ever after within the story.
However, there is a somewhat clear set up for one in the next book, so please don't let that put you off! The lack of a happy ending doesn't actually stop the story from feeling complete either, the characters finished the journey that they were meant to go on and the time difference between the main book and the epilogue fives the distance of time that the characters need.
What I really liked about this book was the friendship between Jenna and Mimi and how that was portrayed.
It wasn't just your typical 'talk about the guy we like' friendship, but also one where they stood up for each other and played pranks. Not to mention that shocking event of a teenage friendship fall out me and my best friend had so many of those! Also, Mimi came out with some cracking lines so there was very little to fault there. As with the fall outs in the teenage relationship, there were other aspects of teenage life, and teenage life at school, which I thought were more true to life than many books like this.
Namely, the characters swore, and talked about sex a lot. And thought about sex a lot for that matter. Now that's how I remember my last year of school, definitely with words stronger than 'darn' and I really appreciated that the author added that element of realism. I also though that Jenna's reaction to betrayal by more than one character to varying degrees was perfectly reasonable and gave another layer to her character. That and the fact that her relationships and friendships seemed complex and with multiple layers.
Basically if you're looking for a high school romance ish that actually reflects what real life school is like, then Bittersweet Revenge would definitely be a good read! Oct 11, Brie rated it it was amazing Shelves: Beck wrote this story as beautiful as you can write a story about bullying. She took something that is happening daily and forced us to acknowledge it. A PHOENIX is a long-lived bird that is cyclically regenerated or reborn that obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor.
The strength that she had to have in order to endure everything she went through is amazing. With the weight of the world on her shoulders she still managed to brush everything off and keep moving. This is one strong female character who does not easily cave or give in to her tormentors. Even tho this novella tackles a very serious subject, it does more than educate us, it gives us a story of two people falling in love.
A friendship will be tested as well as a budding relationship, all while Jenna learns a secret that threatens to destroy her family. Between her inner dialogue and her best friend Mimi, I could not stop laughing. I was either smiling or giggling off some snarky comment that Mimi made! I freaking love her just as much as I loved Jenna. If an author can make me fall in love with their secondary characters without letting them outshine the main characters well then, they already have my full attention!
Rex was this protective, hot, beautiful human being who could sweet talk basically anyone. The connection between Jenna and Rex immediately became the focal point of the story for me. Corey freaking A, you bastard! To the mini twatwaffle and Tits McGee, I have some cunt punches waiting for you so be very careful what alley way you come out of! I really liked this story and I am extremely excited to devour the next book in this series! Through her writing I was able to feel a lot of the emotions that the characters felt and I honestly can not wait to experience it again!
Jul 31, Michelle rated it really liked it. I am giving this a 4 stars because I inhaled this book and could not put it down. I love to read bully stories and them getting their due or the back story. I liked Jenna and I felt she was portrayed pretty accurately. I would love to get to know Ryder better: The reasoning behind the bulling.. They can't hurt the one they want to so they go after the next best thing. Corey was good at being bad.
The things that bothered me. First off this is a good thing but it was too short. T I am giving this a 4 stars because I inhaled this book and could not put it down. There is quite a few characters in this book. I would say too many for it being a novella but I am still interested in them and hoping they are in the next book. But with so many characters I was not able to get enough info about them either.
