I would assign students who are just beginning to read transitional chapter books this book. Although I didn't feel like the chapters were very fluid, I think that kids would still enjoy reading this story.

A few good laugh-out-loud moments in every book. Last chapter is called Ghost but it's not scary at all my kids don't know the word ghost other than in reference to something you thought you saw but it wasn't really there. Babies are popping up all over the farm and it's up to Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa to watch over the new little ones including a calf, a puppy named Peppermint and some baby owls that scare Cocoa!
I just got done reading this book to my Kindergarten class and they really liked it!

Each chapter is a separate story and so it's a good book for beginning readers; they can break it up into small chunks.

My daughter wasn't thrilled by it, but she did like the pictures. I personally don't find Cocoa's grouchiness endearing but it would be a great book for a lesson on inferring character emotions for my 2nd grade transitional readers. It stays true to form. Entertaining, heart warming, sweet and funny. I would love to hang out with Kate and Cocoa for real.

This time, the pair of friends, appear in three episodes about new babies on their ranch. As far as early readers go, I like this series. Kate and Cocoa are good together and loved the addition of Peppermint.
