You learn a whole new side of Mister Livingstone, a totally self-centered, single-minded man. The price for his obsessions paid by his wife and children. This plucky, self-reliant, strong woman is ground down by a maniac of a husband and Victorian mores.

This abridged audio was presented in 5, minute segments, but I doubt a longer production would have included more meat. I'm not sure whether this was supposed to be about Mrs.
Livingstone's life, or simply the author's accounts of her search for the grave. If the first, it failed, or at least this abridged version did.
It was sort of all over the place and left large gaps between episodes. One major question for me was why was the family shippe Someone mentioned "looking for a story. One major question for me was why was the family shipped off to Scotland to wait out Mr. Livingstone's expedition, rather than just staying in Africa, which was home? Perhaps this is explained in the book, but it would have been an important piece of information to include in the audio version had it been available.
Maybe the book succeeded on the second objective, in which case I have to wonder Perhaps if you like reading travelogues, but this one didn't come across as particularly interesting. Regardless, the whole thing makes me impatient with the explorer, who was just a self-obsessed jerk.

Nicely told story of African journeys, with long-awaited appreciation for the life of the enigmatic woman behind the heroic man.
