Seems impossibly horrible, but one thing I notice is what you say about your crawl at 20M. So maybe you need to consider face walking as well? Be interested to see what Greysides says? Thanks for the replies. As long as I am not at risk of damaging the bow I'll keep going as is for the moment but can see that 5m will be a problem.
I had noticed that my bow was a bit loud compared with nearby archers. I am only fairly new to archery so I'll keep the anchor the same until I am happy that everything else is learned well enough not to fall apart if I change anchor. By darthTer in forum Horsebow.
String walking a short bow By rusty craine in forum Border Archery. Bookmarks Bookmarks Google Facebook Twitter. The time now is String Walking is perhaps the most misunderstood technique for shooting a bow without sites. Give an Overview of your technique.?
Explain how you learned to string walk? Why you think it works best for you rather than other styles?
However, there is not going to be a useful string picture. This takes a lot of practice, but should be easier than adjusting the aiming gap at the target as its less dependant on the distance. See Beiter high speed video. It seems several archers practice with tape on their nose. Accuracy decreases with a bigger gap, and aiming at some point off the target does not usually produce good results. Paper Tuning Another alternative is paper tuning, which can be started in less space. Measure, make notes and fit permenant nocking points after tuning.
Do you mentally calculate distance and then set the gap? String walking is another primitive sighting technique. It allows the archer to use the arrow point as a reference.
To accommodate the placing of the arrow on or near the spot, the archer needs to change his hand placement on the string for a given distance. Lets say at 3 fingers under, index finger touching the nock, the arrow is point on at 40 yards.
At one inch he is 20 yards with his point. The further away from the nock, the closer the distance with the point as a reference. A popular method of String Walking is to actually count the strands on your serving. Most string walkers user monofilament serving material when they string walk because it gives more of a pronounced feel for counting the strands.
The Black Widow tab is a popular tab for string walkers. The stiff plate allows for a t-square effect, placing the plate straight up to the string, the top of the plate can be used to indicate finger position. Most archers who use the Widow tab take advantage of the stitching that runs vertical, counting the stitches as it corresponds to distances. String walking is not allowed in most traditional competitions. FITA allows String walking in their recurve bare bow style.
I shot fita bare bow for a while, and learned the art of String walking from fellow bare bow archers from the US, and Europe.
