I liked this book quite a bit. It is a tightly written, suspenseful story of the men mostly officers on a submarine. The author wraps within the story the everyday workings of the officers on the submarine, as well as extraordinary situations the officers encounter. I came away with an understanding of submariners and the amount of training and education they undergo as well as the rigors of the life. So why the three star rating? I see that the author has written several other books, so I'll pick them up.

The central character is a junior officer on a nuclear submarine, and he continues his adventures in subsequent books in the series.
As it happened, a few days after I read this, I met a former crewman of the U. San Francisco, a nuclear sub that did exactly this in The man I Being fascinated by submarines, this book appealed to me greatly. The man I met was a newbie crewman, on the boat for only two weeks, when the mishap took place. As near as I can tell, the descriptions of life on board an American submarine are highly accurate.
This is a great book if you like this kind of stuff. When I finished it, I immediately bought the other two books in the series. Sep 22, Pamela rated it it was amazing. I thoroughly enjoy submarine stories and have for as long as I can remember. Very thankful for acronym list provided I was reading on a n iPad, so it was very easy to check out the ones I didn't know.
Great plot, strong characters that were likable and took their responsibilities seriously, even the crazy one!! I dont write book reports on Good Reads, but I highly recommend this book--typos, misspelled words and all. I give it 4 stars. Jan 15, Jack Hardy rated it really liked it. A gripping nuke submarine tale! I guess I've been a submarine story fan since I was 12 or Now I went back to gain a view of a "nuke" I was amazed at the details included, describing the disciplines that are part of underwater life.
The plot and characters brought it all to life. Jun 21, Chris rated it really liked it. An interesting read, liked the characters involved. Quite a bit of suspense especially towards the end.
I'd recommend this book to all my friends. Jun 27, Gujju Ellen rated it it was amazing Shelves: The risks that comes with the life in the submarine, is well explained in "Collapse Depth".
The horrible sort of death and destruction described is unbearable. How can any country, groups or a person encourage war and destruction for sheer greed, fanaticism or blood thirst is beyond me. The desperation to stay alive, to escape from the horrible death comes up clearly in the writing by Todd Tucker. Hats off to all the brave Defense personnel and their beloved ones.
Feb 25, Sharon rated it really liked it. Sabotage on a Sub This was a good book about the men that were serving on a Trident submarine and the mission they had to complete. Someone didn't want the mission completed and you'll never believe who is was. This was the first book I've ever read about submarines and I enjoyed it.
I think you will too.
Nov 06, Harold rated it it was amazing. I can't wait for the next Danny Jabo book. I hope this series gets as popular as the Hornblower books, and we get to follow Danny all the way to Admiral. Jan 04, Jody Milby rated it it was amazing. A Submarine In Peril I have never considered, as a citizen, how dangerous life on a Submarine can be.
Consider a fire, for instance, when you are feet below the surface of the Ocean. Or, moving along under water and ramming into a large object that no one knows is there! Can you imagine the terror of having Seawater rushing inside, and trying to figure out how to stop it? What about not having clean air to breathe? One just supposes that there are really thick windows to look out of so that y A Submarine In Peril I have never considered, as a citizen, how dangerous life on a Submarine can be. One just supposes that there are really thick windows to look out of so that you are not so closed in.
But this is not so, on a modern Nuclear Navy Submarine. And being sent on a dangerous mission, and not being told any of the details only adds to the tension and the danger. I learned a great amount of details about life in a Submarine, and the dangers that go with it. Combine that with a realistic, tension-filled story line, and you have an incredible, believable tale.
This is a story that could really happen -God forbid - aboard a Submarine Vessel. A very well written story, one that I will read again some day. May 13, Don rated it liked it. Collapse Depth by Todd Tucker is fairly good. It appears to be an accurate telling of nuclear submarine life and that I enjoyed. The plot is okay; it could have been a lot better. Tucker should have kept from revealing the saboteur so early. Even the red herring was disclosed to the reader. So we are left with how was the saboteur going to do it and when? The suspense was a little slow, but the climax was excellent.
I really liked how Tucker pulled off the ending, very ingenious. Someone needs t Collapse Depth by Todd Tucker is fairly good.
Someone needs to go through and edit this novel because it has multiple typos, substituted words Nav was referred to as Navy once , etc. A simple read-through would discover most of them. Since there are so many acronyms, the typos would occasionally throw me off. If you like submarine novels, I still recommend it. Dec 03, Linda Goudreau rated it it was amazing. I am very glad I read this book. I have less knowledge about submarines than some people.
As my family line are mostly Army Vets. So I was hooked by this book. Danny Jabo is a hero and I will be reading his other stories. Todd Tucker, you write some good stories. The grammar and dialog is spot on. Such an interesting storyline!!!! Jul 06, Bob rated it liked it. A US Submarine sailing out of Washington across the Pacific headed for Taiwan to deliver some nuclear warheads in an effort to defuse possible Chinese aggression experiences a series of mishaps that threaten its survival.
The story revolves around the crew and to some extant their spouses on shore as they fight to overcome the threats to their survival. Feb 04, James L. Wallace rated it it was amazing. Great thriller beneath the waves. Great pace in this techno suspense thriller. Good character development and intrigued to see where Lt Jabo's career will lead and we what other challenges beneath the sea he might face as a submariner. As a Naval novel give it good credibility in the creation of the submarine atmosphere and hope to read the sequel to this novel soon.
Jun 10, Jim Morton rated it it was amazing. This a terrific book. Well written pretty average editing I must admit and a very believable. I spent nearly 22 years at sea with the CG and the USN and the damage control and navigation sequences were spot on and exciting.

The story was decent but after the 30th editing error I started looking for them. Even if you have to pay someone. Don't trust the publisher, although I have to wonder what fly by night business handled this book. Having spent 8 yrs on FBMs the information was accurate although perhaps I'm a bit behind the times since I only worked on Polaris and Poseidon boats.
Never heard the term "collapse depth.
Character development is poor to average for an Amazon author so I'm surprised by the high ratings. With that out of the way, this is a very good story that primarily takes place on an underway nuclear-powered submarine. The other parts of the story include the family members ashore and the impact of a sea-faring life on those people.
While that is not the focus of the story, it was woven in well and complements the action aboard the sub. The focus of the story revolves around a series of incidents aboard the submarine and how the crew responds. There is plenty of drama as the crew is forced to test their training and reaction time when catastrophe happens.
In an environment that is stressful under normal circumstances, equipment failure can produce anxiety levels not experienced when there is dry land under your feet because any little thing that goes wrong can quickly become a bigger thing that can kill you. This is all conveyed very well by the author and you get a good sense of life in a confined space where you are trapped with virtually no personal space.
There are minor typos and grammatical errors, but this was a very good story and I plan to buy the next in the series.
The overdose of boring, technical detail about how submarines operate necessitated skimming rather large tracts of this tale to get back to a story. In spite of the extraneous detail and irrelevant paragraphs about details of the crew's wives' lives Some guidance by an accomplished editor and better breakdown of presentation and some chapter headings would also have helped.
Finally, a sub story by a guy who's been on a sub.
