I bought the book and to have her read it to me; such a great story and book. Bobbie is honest about her life and this is a true and real story told in an awesome way.
I shouldn't have brought it up. We'd tell stories of how Molly knew when I'd broken my leg, or how we were able to transmit messages during. Dirty Rocker Boys has ratings and reviews. Digging Up Mother by Doug Stanhope Bad Choices Make Good Stories - Going to New open! it's not for everyone but it's real. wait for book 2 coming soon.i'm working on it now!!! .. A small town girl from Louisiana, growing up in a volatile home until her mother.
I am happy to own it and have the audio version as well. I am a fan of Bobbie and Jani. Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? Yes, This book gives a insider look into the rock lifestyle of the time. Bobbie doesn't hide things because she doesn't want to make someone mad or to make herself look better. Everyone's flaws are out on the table and so are hers. What was one of the most memorable moments of Dirty Rocker Boys?
Bobbie is so transparent in this book that you can really get a feel of the ups and downs in her life. She is also careful to tell her story from her perspective. Others are discussed in detail but she doesn't really speculate on their story as much as her perspective and experience. I love reading biography or autobiography types of books. You can tell when a book is written on the fly or with certain things omitted or glossed over so that the person telling the story is seen in a better light.
Bobbie doesn't hold back her own short comings and you can tell what she has learned from her experiences and how she really feels about everything around her. Is she a saint? But is she just cold hearted and out to get everyone, not really. This is a down and dirty book and I loved it. I was never a fan of hair metal. But, I think I did it to fit in or due to peer pressure… there had to be a reason. Anyway, I bought this book because I love biographies, I love stories about small-town kids reaching for their dreams and I love it when an author has the nuts to read their own story.
This book hit enough of the right notes to convince me to buy it. I think I can pick every word that Caroline Ryder put in this book. On the rare occasion Bobbie pronounces them correctly, they stick out like speed bumps and left me wincing.
It made me feel bad. She made no additional friends in the telling of her story. Being beautiful is not earned and this woman seems to have learned a valuable lesson about what life is really like for mere mortals. Bobbie Brown lived a pretty wild life. She explains her move to LA and the fun times that happened afterwards.
I felt like she spent more time on her relationship with Tommy Lee than she did on her marriage to Jani Lane. The book was OK at best. It seemed like the story could have been laid out a bit more and I think as a fan I was hoping to hear more about her marriage than her breakup with Tommy.
Truth be told it kind of felt like she wasn't over that part. Hearing of all the drug use just made me feel really sad for her daughter. I also found it hard to believe when she made herself out to never be a person to cheat, and abstained from sex for 5 years. I just don't buy it, especially with the lifestyle and the drugs, the story just doesn't add up. It seems like she has finally grown out of her wild ways, but her scars are probably too deep to ever fully heal.
Sometimes I'll listen to a biography and have a new level of respect for the person. In this book that isn't the case. I'm not a fan. Exactly what I was looking for, entertaining and interesting! Oct 02, Richelle rated it it was amazing Shelves: I am actually really sad that it's over! Im really hoping that she writes another one! There aren't words to describe how much I enjoyed this book! Please write another one Bobbie Brown! Dec 05, Paganalexandria rated it really liked it Shelves: Bobbie Brown is an iconic video vixen most noted for playing the lead in Warrant's "Cherry Pie". Many don't know she also married Jani Lane, the lead singer, not long after meeting on the set of it. She followed that up with an engagement to Tommy Lee later.
This book details the highs and lows of the 80's hair metal scene. Bobbie's way of telling the story gets the reader sucked with her charm and honesty.
She comes off very likable. It fills in the missing story gaps not covered o Bobbie Brown is an iconic video vixen most noted for playing the lead in Warrant's "Cherry Pie".
It fills in the missing story gaps not covered on her show "Ex-wives Of Rock. The tea is hot, practically scalding! Most will be shocked by the revelations revealed at the end. Video might have killed the radio star, but Grunge killed the rock star. She was there during that time, and offers a peak at the fallout of those personally involved. I still have some questions she didn't answer. She goes a little into her "Star Search" experience, but not enough. Did she have any catty moments with her competition? How was Ed McMahon in real life?
Did any of the judges hit on her? This was a fun, and easy read. I laughed out loud at certain parts, and wanted to travel through time to slap a few people too. Jan 15, Sarah Viscuso rated it really liked it. Even though I was just a kid, it was clear who the star was of the very popular music video: It was romantic, at least, for a fangirl kid in the 80's, to fall in love with Bobbie and I was very young when Warrant's "Cherry Pie" was a hit, with its video constantly rotating on MTV.
It was romantic, at least, for a fangirl kid in the 80's, to fall in love with Bobbie and Jani and their love story. In hindsight, I remember thinking it was all kind of sad, that Bobbie and Jani didn't work out. With their angelic manes and faces, they seemed to be the perfect couple. As a fan with so many questions, I found the book to be a great read.
How refreshing it is, to read a woman's account of that time on the Sunset Strip. Short as it was, I especially loved the little bit on Sebastian Bach in particular. This book is highly recommended for anyone who is a fan of 80's rock and wants to read a woman's perspective. I hope Bobbie writes another book!
Nov 16, Trace rated it it was amazing Shelves: Read this in one sitting and loved it!!! When Cherry Pie first came out I remember thinking holy shit this woman is the epitome of beauty and why the hell do I NOT look like her? I always thought she was better than Pam Anderson who always seems to have a perpetual bitch face going on or else a phony smile. Yes Pam was beautiful but very much knew it and that made her unattractive to me. Back in the day we did Read this in one sitting and loved it!!! Back in the day we didn't have internet or the like to keep up with celebs like we do these days unless you bought a few music magazines here and there.
So when I finally came across Bobbie Brown's book I pre-ordered i instantly and couldn't wait to read it and it wasn't a disappointment. To those of the people being negative I hope you are all saints because at least she has the balls to put it all out there!!! Hold your head up Bobbie you are still a gorgeous babe oh and I always wanted you to join Baywatch, I was disappointed when they chose Gena Lee Nolin over you!!!!!
Dec 19, Jeannette rated it really liked it. She pulled no punches and told as much dirt if not more on herself than the other people she was writing about. Jan 06, Trista Angelisanti rated it it was ok. It's exactly what you might expect The encounters with Hollywood actors and musicians are entertaining though. Now you don't need to read it. Apr 11, Kristin rated it liked it Shelves: Leonardo DiCaprio is extremely well-endowed, even more so than Tommy Lee. Mark McGrath, not so much. And Dave Navarro is insane. Feb 06, Sunniva Dee rated it it was amazing. Oh my shockingest goodness.
It was definitely worth the read.
Blasting the song that came on almost every hour, and the video that played just as much — Bobbie Brown, the new metal goddess. This is her story. A small town girl from Louisiana, growing up in a volatile home until her mother finally left her father for good sneaking both her and her brother out of the house in the middle of the night with suitcases that were already packed.
With big dreams, offers from agencys, California was calling and Bobbie was going. Everything this girl touched turned to gold, everywhere she went doors opened — and people took notice. Within the pages are some famous names and crazy stories, some of regular people in extraordinary situations — but what you will find is the dirty, raw truth — the drugs, the alcohol, the fights, the abuse, the self worth, the Hollywood that will eat you up and spit you out and have you come back for more.
Brown is reflective about her own addiction and issues, her lack of ability of being a true mother to her daughter, but even in the darkest of moments she has heart I even think a romantic and humor. She expects truth from others and gives it here to the reader. The way it was written, part confessional, part conversational — it was so personal — as if I was privy to everything as it happened, when it happened, as she experienced and felt it. Did she dish some fun dirt — yes! Some that I suspected, yes! I also think that there was something of tragedy and personal growth, learning and development — can we learn from others — yes, and there is a lot to learn from Bobbie.
Mar 23, Sbell rated it really liked it. I love the days of the 80's hair bands. I was born and raised in B. La, and had heard many stories about Bobbie Brown. I was friends with a girl who attended her wedding. I take offense to how she has us Southern's speaking, because she has us all sounding like we were raised in the swamp, but other than that, this was an entertaining read, and I did enjoy it.

Slowly Slowly Said The Sloth. Jani was young, and easily impressed. Calvin and Hobbes - Tracer Bullet Returns. What other book might you compare Dirty Rocker Boys to and why? Dozens of orchid bouquets because they were the most fragrant. Llama Llama Red Pajama. Matthew just got more and more jealous - not just of Jani, but of the success of my music video.
I think if she could of gotten Neil Strauss as a co-author. I Think it would of been oh So much better. At times it seemed to jump around a lot and I was slightly confused. The stories were interesting, as is she, but it failed to tie everything together that well. I think major chunks were left out as well- especially concerning the later years. May 11, Hilary Mortz rated it liked it. Not what I expected when I started reading but a very entertaining and likeable book.
No great insights into the lives of the hair rock heroes that she has been intimate with but some nice stories and gossip. Incidentally I was at a Las Vegas party a few months ago and apparently Bobbie was there as well. Wish I had been a little more sober that night and I could have shaken her hand. Nov 26, Marissa rated it liked it Shelves: Better than I expected.
I envied her in my younger days for marrying Jani Lane before I got a chance, of course, but no more! She wasn't exactly what I expected, but still led quite a life. Also, just reinforces the fact that the members of Motley Crue are all pieces of garbage. Jan 03, Shelby Harper rated it really liked it. It was a fun read! I loved many of the 80s and 90s musicians mentioned in the book and enjoyed this insider look into the whole LA scene behind the music.
Entertaining book about her life. Mar 21, Cat The Curious rated it it was amazing. I could not put this book down! I found myself thinking about this book for days after!
Being a child of the 80's, I was curious about this book. I have to admit I had a bit of a female crush on Bobbie Brown when I first saw her on star search in the 80's. Then she did the video Cherry Pie. I was big into hair metal back then. I was madly in love with Tommy, but I knew I had to leave. We have sex toys. I knew he was just trying to hurt me, but did I think he would marry her a couple of days later? I was the one who ended it with Tommy, but somehow, it didn't really feel like the end for us.
After the news came out that Pam and Tommy tied the knot, I started getting more job offers. I got calls from Playboy, which Pam had done already, as well as Baywatch , the TV show she starred on. Everyone thought drama would mean more sales and ratings, I guess. I was cool with it - might as well make some money on my misery. But Pam was not having it. She told Hugh Hefner and her producers it was either her or me.
Things went from bad to worse. My drug use spiralled out of control. I'd graduated to meth to try to keep my weight down. And with one marriage and one engagement blown up in my face - I partied to make myself feel better. I knew him from the clubs, he was always coming up to me saying, "You're going to be my girlfriend one day. I was five years his senior. We went back to his place that night. Leo had barrettes pulling back his dirty blond hair. He turned on some music and started singing the TLC song Waterfalls to me.
It was weird - I wasn't into it at all. After that, he put on a condom while I went down on him and then we had sex. But the whole thing was awkward, and we didn't hang out much after that. After another wild night at the club, I went back to Kevin Costner's place and was so lit I threw a lit cigarette into his bedroom and nearly set his house on fire.
But we never had sex. And he was so funny, he could've been a comedian. He was the only person who could really make me laugh and bring me out of my funk after my split with Tommy. We'd been hanging out for a few months when we went to Leo's birthday party together ironically. This chick comes up to me and says, "Hi Bobbie, I'm Mark's girlfriend. Things eventually faded out with Mark, and I was on to the next one. But the first night I met him was truly freaky.
My friend called to tell me she's over at Dave's house after a night at the club and invited me over. The tattooed rock star opened the door naked with a shotgun wearing a feather boa and sunglasses. I'll put on a video. It was a video of Dave masturbating. But I stayed and Dave made the whole night about me - he was sweet, funny and charming. By the next morning, we were finishing each other's sentences. But we didn't hook up. I was scared to fall too hard for Dave. He was a heroin addict, and I had a daughter to think about. We hung out for months before we finally kissed.
That night, I freaked out and lied to Dave, saying I had a boyfriend. I lost so much time to drugs and gave up so many opportunities while my priority was the men in my life. I squandered meetings with Robert De Niro, Steven Spielberg and Jive Records because I was too high to take them seriously or because I was too busy focusing on a boyfriend or husband. But my biggest regret is missing out on time with my daughter. She is the true love of my life, and I feel like I wasn't good enough for her.
