Voyager: The Art of Pure Awareness

Voyager: The Art of Pure Awareness

We are everything, everywhere, and simultaneously, there is no who, no you, anywhere to be found. Having transcended our personal objective existence, we realise the inconceivable is-ness of being. Released from this conditioned idea of our personal objective existence, we are FREE. We are, in essence, the sea of pure awareness and waves are the changing world of our perceptions, thoughts and feelings.

To know pure awareness is to know the meaning of the words: What we are looking for is what is looking. Mind is a wave looking for the sea. In dissolution of the wave—we walk on the still waters of pure awareness. To be yourself, stop imagining yourself to be this or that. Let your true nature emerge. From the new release of Voyager: We are not even certain that the ship that is to carry us Over the unknown seas has not sprung a leak somewhere.

We doubt too much. Fear holds us back from embracing change. Feeling uncertain about our abilities, we may never raise the anchor that holds us to our habitual shores. Our personality often refuses to recognise the role of the higher self—we lack confidence in our own inner voice or intuition.

Safe Harbour

Life holds infinite possibilities and there are many seas to cross but uncertainty and indecision cause us to procrastinate. We vacillate as to which way to sail, and so our ship sits motionless in sheltered waters. All we truly seek is peace and happiness; and peace and happiness is found where self is no longer at odds with the world. Nature shows that everything in the universe is fundamentally connected, having its place and meaning in the grand design of life.

A Spiritual Journey

We seem to have separated ourselves from nature, as well as each other, and to reunite will enrich all of humanity with true purpose. There is a primordial need to explore and discover for ourselves our reason for being here. When Columbus sailed away he left behind a port shrouded in doubt and disbelief. He took it upon himself, with passionate determination and resolute conviction, to find his way across unknown seas.

Columbus had an immutable faith that a new world existed; he moved beyond all fear and superstition; his knowledge and trust in his inner voice gave him the confidence to break free from the belief that the earth was flat. Man cannot discover new oceans until he has courage to lose sight of the shore. The spiritual adventurer must seek the navigational skills of the soul to safely steer and guide the ship.

So raise the sails and trim all the sheets; set your course and follow the North Star. Voyager and the art of pure awareness is a quest to find out who we really are. Life and everything we experience arise from awareness. We are never outside awareness. Just as waves are not separate from the ocean, we are not separate from awareness. An adventure into the nonduality nature of pure awareness , Voyager inspires us along our own individual path of inner transformation.

Abiding in the heart of humanity is the light of true peace and happiness. Each of the twenty five chapters presents a voyage toward our inner, universal Self, bringing a deeper and wider perspective along the way. Pure awareness is an art that requires practice to quiet the surface of mind and still the moving waters of our emotional seas. Enlightenment is simply being. A recognition that all world appearances are illuminated from the light that shines in our heart.

We stand at the bow of our ship. The sky is clear, the sea is calm. Nonduality is where we can reflect the changing surface of our minds [waves], back to our unchanging consciousness [ocean].

The true meaning of the word consciousness is not a personal thing, but an impersonal no-thing. Consciousness is not personal, not ours, it is a shared principle like the air, or the rain, or the blue in the sky. Consciousness is where all the things of this world appear to us. When you look at a tree, see that the tree is also consciousness appearing as its wave-form. So your consciousness of that tree is also the tree being your consciousness. Consciousness is a single principle of everything that is shared in common by everyone.

Perception then is only a partial appearance of consciousness, a piece of inform-ation experienced by our faculties of mind, body and senses. Our true self is consciousness, the infinite ocean, out of which arises the waves of our individual-ness. So beyond our seeming differences and appearances of personality, we are the same ocean of oneness that is pure awareness. Perceptions change with changing mind but consciousness stays unchanging.

The blue in the sky stays the same, no matter what the changing weather. Where perception is partial and belongs to the physical world, consciousness is completely impartial and formless. It is where the world arises from. Duality is where there is experienced an object with the idea that there is someone separate from and perceiving that object. Nonduality is where what is seen and that which sees is the same.

The seer and the seen are identical. Consciousness is the ocean and the waves that rise from it. The world of appearances are the illumination of consciousness which rise up and dissolve back as waves. At this underlying basis of consciousness, there are no appearances, no objects, no events, no names, no forms, no qualities, no time or space. There is only pure illumination, pure awareness, quite unaffected by all the pictures and stories that arise from it.

The world comes after consciousness; and it is here, in consciousness, that all the world is found to stand. Consciousness is all there is. One who knows self as consciousness has risen, from the seeming world, to this unconditioned state where everything is only light. See my website peliguin. Nonduality and heart consciousness are synonymous. The heart is the bridge that transcends the limitations and constraints of mind.

Right here, ever present, in the midst of ordinary life, you are already that which you are seeking. Once the illusion of self falls away you realise you were never separate from all that is. At the heart of knowing there is a simplicity beyond words.

All there is is oneness. Oneness is the ordinariness of life as it is happening. There is no path to oneness. Oneness is already here. The myth of enlightenment is that we must seek something. But we are already complete. We have always been complete. We are always living in the presence of oneness. It cannot be taught but is constantly shared.

Because being is all there is, no-one can lay claim to it. Boundlessness cannot be owned, cannot be given or taken away.

Voyager : The Art of Pure Awareness by Robin Clark (2010, Paperback)

All there is is the wonder of being. This book is somewhat outside the sphere I usually read, so I'm not sure how removed from the target audience I actually am. There was a lot of beautiful imagery, and it was readable, but I think the boat-trip metaphor might have been a bit too thick for me to really grasp what was being conveyed; I'm sure this book will appeal to those in the target demographic.

I think one of the things that really prevented me from engaging in the desired exercise was the constant reliance on Columbus and how he went against popular belief to achieve his goals. At the time flat-earth theory was pretty much dead in the water, and what was really being held against Columbus was the fact that his proposed voyage was for a trip that was a third of the current estimates of Earth's circumference which had been worked out to remarkable precision back in the days of ancient Greece meaning that him and his crew would have starved to death long before reaching India, it was only by luck that America was there that his expedition wasn't a total waste.

In our heart lies the key to true peace and happiness. Consciousness is the ocean and the waves that rise from it. All of us have a quiet longing to return to nature and live as we were intended to do. It is where the world arises from. The condensed narrative contains deeper meanings so designed that each reader needs to think about the words through a sustained process of inner reflection. We are voyagers, set on a course to find our unique purpose in life.

Thank you, Robin, for giving me this chance to read and meditate this wonderful work of Art. Maria Carmo, Lisbon, 25 Th. Jun 03, Rani rated it it was amazing Shelves: I recommend this inspiring book to anyone who is on a journey of self awareness and connectedness. It reminded me of things I had forgotten, introduced me to some new ways to look at things and rounded out some incomplete concepts for me with beautifully imagined metaphors. Filled with great quotes from great minds and I'm not sure if it was intended by the author, but I found some great imagery tools for use in meditation.

This book falls into the teachings of Eckhart Tolle, suggesting the "now" as a self awareness and giving interesting information on how to get to a state of awareness.
