The organisation took him in, and he began tirelessly working to spread the word to other enslaved children that they too could be free. Iqbal participated in raids on illegal factories and addressed international conventions. He was awarded the Reebok 'Youth in Action' award and a scholarship to study law in Boston. But before he could start to enjoy the results of his hard work, his life was cut short by a hail of bullets from the gun of an unknown sympathiser with the carpet masters. Told by the bestselling ghostwriter of The Little Prisoner and Sold, this is an inspiring tale of what one boy can achieve and a gripping call to action to end child slavery.

The Little Hero by Andrew Crofts

Slavery was made illegal many decades ago, in almost every part of the world, yet it continues to thrive to date. It took many other shapes and names, but in essence, it was always the slavery. This book is an insight in to how this country has continued to fail its people, how easy and simple it is for the oppressors to thrive and discredit those who rise against them, just call them Jewish or Indian agents who are trying to break the economy of the country and sit back and pluck the fruit.

A good reminder of how impossible it is for those seeking justice to rarely find it there. Everyone fails the justice seeker, from police to court to the government. Because the oppressor is rich and powerful and has everyone from law enforcement agencies to those who roam around in the corridors of power, under their thumb.

If Iqbal was alive today, he would have been only A drop of water bubbled slowly through.

A Little Hero

He looked all round; not a person or a house in sight. He looked at the hole; the little drops oozed steadily through; he knew that the water would soon break a great gap, because that tiny hole gave it a chance. The town was so far away—if they ran for help it would be too late; what should he do? Once more he looked; the hole was larger, now, and the water was trickling.

Suddenly a thought came to Hans. Tell them I will keep it stopped till they get here. Hans, kneeling with his finger in the hole, watched him grow smaller and smaller as he got farther away.

Soon he was as small as a chicken; then he was only a speck; then he was out of sight. Hans was alone, his finger tight in the bank. He could hear the water, slap, slap, slap, on the stones; and deep down under the slapping was a gurgling, rumbling sound. It seemed very near. By-and-by, his hand began to feel numb.

He rubbed it with the other hand; but it got colder and more numb, colder and more numb, every minute. He looked to see if the men were coming; the road was bare as far as he could see. Then the cold began creeping, creeping, up his arm; first his wrist, then his arm to the elbow, then his arm to the shoulder; how cold it was! And soon it began to ache. Ugly little cramp-pains streamed up his finger, up his palm, up his arm, till they reached into his shoulder, and down the back of his neck.

It seemed hours since the little brother went away.

Feb 17, Chice rated it really liked it. Surprised by the way of this boy living his childhood prob most of the children in his country and how cruel a system could do to human rights.

It's a great story of how selfless people with threats and suffering in their life are still capable of having noble intentions for other people. Sep 17, Tracy rated it it was amazing. This was a powerful book which gave me insight to a young child's courage. It reminded me of a world that is still in need of change and support.

However, it was inspiring that we all have to do our bit to make change.
