Still, it does kind of take a man down a peg or two to hear them say it One of the most refreshing things about this novel was that both Steven and Kaitlyn acknowledged the mistakes they had made in the past without wallowing in self-pity or self-flagellations. Rather than dwelling on the past, they are determined to move forward in a more positive direction. In the end, their relationship develops out of an emotional connection rather than a physical attraction, and those are always the most satisfying romances for me. This could well become one of my favourite feel-good reads.

Feb 02, Wanda rated it it was amazing. He can take the biggest mess you ever saw and make something so beautiful it can take your breath away. For me, I know I have found a great book when it draws me in to the point of feeling like I am a part of the lives of the characters involved in the story. When I feel like I have come home. At Home in Last Chance is that kind of book.

It has a simple hometown feel with ch "Never underestimate what the Lord can do, honey. It has a simple hometown feel with characters you grow to love and want to read about again and again and that makes for a great series. We first met Kaitlyn in book two as Chris Reed's sister, the mishap misfit with a seven-year-old daughter named Olivia that she left on her brother's doorstep shortly before taking off to parts unknown. Well, Kaitlyn Reed is back! The sometimes wild, hard-to-handle and often unloved young lady is finally finding her place and it's smack dab in the middle of Last Chance! The one person that is helping her do that is Steven Braden, the town's failure and the Cooley family's outsider.

Steven has a habit of running when things get tough and no one ever lets him forget it. Past choices have given him a name in Last Chance that he can't seem to shake and leaving is his only option--until he meets the infamous Kaitlyn Reed, the only person with a past shakier than his own but the one person that truly understands how he feels and what he is going through. When the two misfits come together it makes for a beautiful and sweet story that will leave you smiling.

I know I was! Kaitlyn's character goes through a slow, but major, character development and I loved seeing the change take place. She started out as a wild and spoiled girl and made a smooth transition into a devoted mother of one of the sweetest little girls ever. Steven Braden is Sarah Cooley's cousin. Sarah was one of the main characters in book two. Even though Steven and Sarah are cousins and are a part of the same family, Steven has always been brushed aside when it comes to important family issues. I love that he finally started standing his ground.

It bothered me to no end when his aunt Nancy Jo would exclude him so easily and I was silently rooting him on. Now, I generally find that in every book I read that at least one character worms it's way into my heart and takes root. This book, series really, was not exception. Sometimes it's the secondary characters that catch your eye and this is exactly the way it was for me with this book. Elizabeth Cooley is Steven Braden's grandmother and the patriarch of the Cooley family. She is a real treasure. She is lovable, endearing and wise. She always has the perfect advice for any given situation and everyone turns to her when they need a listening ear.

I truly loved her and am so glad I got to spend time with her. I have to say that Cathleen Armstrong really hit a home run with this series. It's a sweet and satisfying read that I would recommend to everyone. If you like a cozy hometown feeling and amazing characters that stay with you you'll really love this book and entire series! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for my honest review. Kaitlyn Reed and Steven Braden, each the proverbial black sheep in their respective families, struggle to rise above the expectations of failure that the long memories of a small town continue to set for them.

True, neither of them have a stellar reputation to look back on sort-of appalling actually and true, both of them are known for hijacking it out of town when the going gets tough. But, does anyone realize — or care — that Kaitlyn and Steven might have changed for the better? Elizabeth has been a figurative lighthouse in Last Chance, a refuge of sorts for the broken people who need more than just a place to sleep. In At Home in Last Chance, she is once again serving up a side of unconditional love with her trademark hot tea but at eighty-nine she is starting to show her age a bit more.

While it was sad for me to read, I thought Cathleen Armstrong did a wonderful job depicting the emotional struggle this introduces into families as the caregiver begins to need some care. The other characters, most of whom are familiar to those of us who have read the previous two books, are all sharply written and spot on in their representations of life in a small town.

Gotta come up with a new game plan, coach! In fact, it was so hard to put down that I was quite put out when the book ended far sooner than I wanted. This is actually my only complaint — I felt it finished too abruptly and that some parts of the story needed more completion. Some characters needed more vindication. Some characters needed more reassurance.

However, all is not lost! I was thrilled to discover that a fourth book in the series is coming out in September. And there was much rejoicing! I am therefore hoping that the loose ends that bothered me in At Home will be nicely tied up in Last Chance Hero. While this is the third book in a series, you could certainly read it as a stand-alone without feeling very lost. But I would highly recommend the first two books as well — especially if you like books set in small towns with a theme of redemption and restoration.

I received a digital copy of this book from Revell Publishers via Netgalley in exchange for only my honest review. Read my full review here: Mar 03, Jimmie rated it really liked it. Spunky haircut, hip leather jacket and scarf -- the cover of Armstrong's latest novel will surely draw in Christian fiction readers who want a contemporary story and setting. But fresh starts are possible and just maybe Last Chance is a special place for those who need those starts. Despite having parents who Spunky haircut, hip leather jacket and scarf -- the cover of Armstrong's latest novel will surely draw in Christian fiction readers who want a contemporary story and setting.

Despite having parents who supported her through her rough and rebellious teens, Kaitlyn has continued to mess up and now finds herself trying to reestablish a relationship with her seven year old daughter whom she recklessly left with her brother to seek personal romance and adventure. She knows she has changed, that she's found an inner maturity and a need to make amends.

While her brother has given her a job at his cafe, it seems that everyone is waiting for her to make a wrong move, and the one who seems most sure it will happen is Kaitlyn herself. She finds a kindred spirit in Steven, who would classify himself as the town's recovering bad boy. While both feel an attraction to the other, and both can see the tremendous effort the other is making to begin a new, each is warned to stay away from the other.

Cries of "He's bad news" or "Stay away from her; she doesn't need you" come from every direction. But like I said earlier, Last Chance is a special place, and despite the typical gossip and nosiness of small towns, there is genuine caring and when one begins to see the good in another, just maybe, one will finally see the goodness within yourself.

I have not the read the first books in this series, but can tell the writer is following the series pattern of developing one person's one couple's story per book, while always tying the stories together. I especially liked the inter-generational plot of this book. Steven's 88 year old grandmother is the baby sitter for Kaitlyn's daughter Olivia, and it is her hospitalization that brings Steven and Kaitlyn closer.

She is also the person who first sees how much both "misfits" have changed. From her aged perspective, she can clearly see that the two have plenty of time to leave the past and make a future. Final word This is not a romance of boy meets girl, couple falls in love, problems hit and misunderstandings abound, followed by a miserable break up and then finally a reconciliation.

Rather Kaitlyn's and Steve's personal stories take center stage, and as they find themselves, they find each other. This is a much quieter story, but very affirming. I would like to thank Revell Reads for a review copy of this book. All opinions are mine. Jan 01, Lisa Johnson rated it it was amazing. At Home in Last Chance Author: The characters readers met in book one are continued to be enjoyed through all three novels.

Now, she finds herself once again in Last Chance, working for her brother in his diner and trying to regain the trust of her daughter. Kaitlyn is a hairdresser by trade, but without a salon in the small town she is waitressing and hating every minute of it. Kaitlyn meets Steve who has grown up in the area, served in the military, but whose past mistakes are shared with Kaitlyn as a way to warn her to stay away from him.

However, as they begin to spend time together, Kaitlyn and Steve begin to see that no matter how others view them, learning the truth of their lives from each other opens hearts. There is a lot more to the novel than I am sharing with you; it is entertaining while reminding us not to take gossip as gospel!

Sweet romance continues to blossom as it did in the previous two novels. It is another gentle love story, with its theme of hope, everyone always has one more last chance!! I was delighted when I found that this book was offered for review purposes. The other two in the series were easy to read and very enjoyable. The hope for the future was clearly a theme in both and I just knew that it w This is the third book in Cathleen's series, following "Welcome to Last Chance" and "One More Last Chance".

The hope for the future was clearly a theme in both and I just knew that it would be present in this new novel. AND I was right!! This new creation is a story of making choices, resulting in always giving us a chance to correct our mistakes.

But when the going gets tough, Steven gets out of town. At first, I didn't like Kaitlyn very much but everyone has their imperfections and I came to love her and Stephen both. There is no graphic sex, language or violence. Kaitlyn Reed and Steven Braden have indulged in similar behaviors. It was so good to get back to this small town in New Mexico and catch up with the residents from past books. Mar 01, Kim Markett rated it really liked it.

Kaitlyn and Steven find themselves drawn to one another. They are both making a diligent try to become better people , however, others can't always let the past go!

At Home in Last Chance

Can they learn to trust one another when they don't even trust themselves??? Last Chance is a sleepy little town, that is the perfect setting for this type of story. The characters prove to be appealing , realistic and quickly worm their way into your heart. Both of them consider themselves to be failures and are working so hard to redeem themselves. Small towns tend to make this a difficult task, as mistakes made by individuals are usually remembered for a LONG time! Kaitlyn and Steven were easy with whom to identify.

Gill, Vince - One More Last Chance (Karaoke & Lyrics)

Should a person be judged for previous mistakes?? I found that I wanted to give them encouragement and a big hug. I lived in this story , feeling every challenge, hurt and joy. The plot was one that was easy to read. It moved at just the right pace for a small town. I was kept engrossed throughout the book. A clear message was the theme throughout the plot, even when there appears to be no hope, another chance is always available to change your ways, asking forgiveness and the past can be mended!

There is redemption for all of us!! A good, but easy read. This book was supplied by Revell , in exchange for a fair and honest review. Dec 17, Rachel Marie added it. She isn't sure how to be a mother, she hates working at the diner, and everyone seems to be waiting for her to screw up again. She's done making excuses, but it's still hard for her to adjust. She still has issues with her temper, and listening to people, but she's trying to be better. The story is heartwarming.

There is no crime, no violence and no sex. The personality of the main female, Sarah, is somewhat bland in comparison to the main female in book 1, Lainie, but is probably proper for a young, beginning elementary school teacher. One person found this helpful. I enjoyed this book a lot. Chris was definitely my favorite character, although I did feel he needed to man up just a little bit and not allow people to walk all over him. I did not understand why he couldn't be a little cool around Sarah since she was not very nice to him at all. I know she started to warm up to him but she still had attitude and if Chris is anything like I picture in my mind, not just looks but the whole person it seems like she still did not have enough appreciation for him.

I kept waiting for that, but anyway. I still loved the book. I liked the character of Olivia as well. Now that I have finished, I miss this book! I loved the book. I found it refreshing to read a book that wasn't full of cuss words. Cathleen's writings remind me of Debbie MacComber. I will read the rest of this series and hope the books are as good as this one. Did not want to put it down till I was done.

At Home in Last Chance by Cathleen Armstrong

The story line was good. In some ways, it seemed to be a little too good to be true. The child character was way too bratty, I thought. The lead character's not recognizing the cheating boyfriend sooner, I thought since she is a teacher and supposed to be intelligent, I thought this was a little off. See all reviews.
