It actually took me a while to pick them up though. I saw them in the backs of a bunch of books I read and was like "Nah, I don't want to read that.
Seriously, it was awesome. I read the next couple books but then stopped reading them. The fifth book If I Die came out and I was really excited to read it. In the process, I realized that I had skipped t This is a review of the entire series. In the process, I realized that I had skipped the previous book. I still haven't read it, but the plot wasn't confusing because I hadn't. I eventually figured out what I missed. I struggled through the first three, but plowed right through the rest.

I've lost count how many times I've read Before I Wake, it's that good. Maybe it has something to do with the love interest The main character is named Kaylee. Kaylee is a bean sidhe, AKA banshee. She screams when someone dies, which makes for some awkward situations.
And as each book continues, she grows stronger, better, and more awesomesauce. If you compare her in book one to book seven, she's grown up tremendously. Kaylee has to deal with lots of things normal teenagers don't. For example, hellions, vengeful hellions, death lots of it , and heartbreak.
She keeps going strong despite all of that. Kaylee shows again and again that she'd do and give up anything for the people she loves. Her loyalty is fierce, and seems to have no end. She doesn't give up on people, no matter how deep they dig their holes. And trust me, some of those holes are pretty deep.
While she holds grudges and sometimes acts petty, that's normal. Nothing bad sticks with her for long. She has learned to make the best of many situations. Many characters are introduced as the series goes on. You meet Nash, who has his eye on Kaylee from page one. Nash is also a bean sidhe. Then there's Sophie, Kaylee's younger cousin who's more than a tad mean, but truly does come around love really does have the power to change people. There's Tod, Nash's older brother, who not so secretly has a crush on Kaylee this creates problems later.
Tod also happens to be dead. His sense of humor is hilarious though. Tod is easily my favorite character in the books. There's Sabine, Nash's ex-girlfriend who hates Kaylee with a vengeance. Sabine is a mara, she feeds of nightmares. She also happens to know your deepest fears. You don't want her as an enemy to say the least.
Kaylee's best friend Emma is awesome! She is the best human out there, and isn't afraid to admit when she's messed up. Luca is pretty cool. He's a necromancer and is able to put up with Sophie. There are some pretty bad villains too. Avari, the hellion of greed, is introduced in book one. He is the main antagonist. There are lots of bad guys, but every one of them ties back to Avari and his evil schemes that are revealed in the final books. Beck is Kaylee's new math teacher in If I Die. Just a warning, never trust a math teacher. Turns out, they're just as evil and unforgiving as the subject at least in fiction.
The Soul Screamer novels are filled to the brink with humor. I find myself laughing at everything Tod and Sabine say. Nash and Kaylee are like the rocks cavemen used. Bang them together, and you get sparks. The plot in these books is well done. The first few don't really seem to connect, but as you delve farther into the series, it becomes apparent just what is going on. So far, there also happen to be three volumes. I love these books so much and look forward to rereading them for years to come.
The ending is a bit of a tearjerker, but don't worry too much. You won't regret reading these books. They get a full five stars! The emotional turmoil alone puts this novel far ahead of the others. Kaylee, her family, and friends are dealing with the idea that in six days she will be dead. A death which this is no coming back from. Despite the pleas of her father, Tod informs them that you only get one extension and since Kaylee is already living on borrowed time her mother's there is nothing that can be done.
Her father refuses to accept this fact and is bound and determined to find a solution, despite Kaylee's pleas that he not do so. I both commended and praised at him for this. Yes, he is attempting to save his daughter's life, but when a Reaper says it is helpless, spend that time with your daughter - not finding a mythical solution that doesn't exist. Instead of going quietly into the night, in true Kaylee fashion she is determined to stop the incubus that is preying on the girls of her high school, especially after he sets his sights on Emma.
In If I Die, you really come to respect Kaylee, if you didn't already. She knows for a fact that she will die in six days and she is more worried about her family than herself and all the things she will never do. Rachel did an amazing job of creating both a hopeless and hopeful atmosphere throughout the novel. I love the climax of the novel and how everything comes about full circle. Kaylee obviously survives in some form there are more novels, so this isn't a huge shocker , but those last few chapters are beyond intense. The kind of intensity where the rest of the world fades away - your house could be on fire and you'd have zero idea.
Never to Sleep, 5. I don't think I ever will be.
I thought it was interesting to see Sophie's first encounter with the Netherworld, but I just find her character beyond frustrating. I do think Sophie's reaction to the Netherworld is a rather interesting one. I envisioned her huddled in a corner and freaking out. Instead, she takes the initiative to figure out how to get herself and Leon, a new addition to the series, out.
Much like the other two novellas, Rachel gives us a deeper peak into the world of the Soul Screamers and we learn some interesting new tidbits. Okay, now that I got that out of the way. My feelings for him were forced and in a weakened state. I like that every once in a while, Rachel will switch the main focus from paranormal to personal.
Kaylee is struggling with being dead, knowing that she has to play being alive while slowly losing her humanity the wee hours of the morning. While her family and friends try to help, she really only feels "alive" when she is with Tod. Aside from the fact that knowing there is only a novel and a half left, Before I Wake is when things really come to head. Despite the fact that she is dead and her soul is out of his reach, Avari isn't quite through with Kaylee and is now even more determined to acquire her soul - through any means necessary.
Avari has gotten quite crafty and has certainly pulled his resources since we last saw him and the stakes have truly risen to a level of intensity that I cannot even begin to describe. At the same time, when things begin to really take a turn, this misfit group really comes together to fight for what is important - survival.
The ending of Before I Wake is mind blowing and you know that Avari is in trouble. I'm desperate to pick up Soul Screamers Volume 4, but I'm not ready to let this series go. Between the actual novels and the novellas, this has quickly become a favorite series of mine. I know I'm going to have to bite the bullet, I have to know how this all ends, but I'm scared, excited, nervous, and eager all at once.
This has to be my favorite books from the series!!
I know it's a huge gap from the previous rating I gave the previous books to suddenly 5 stars but this is SO good and addictive I won't lie to you about how I've become very obsessed. I lost control of my feelings and truly had a few breakdown myself. I can't handle all the emotions at once. I won't apologize either if my review for the series has been quite a rambling or out of order I just have to get all of my thoughts out there. Where do I e This has to be my favorite books from the series!! Where do I even start? This is all too much. It's very fast-paced, well-written book and intelligible follow-up in the beginning of If I Die , unless you've never actually read the first few books in the series.
More secrets and very important information that surfaced none of the characters are positioned to have the right answers to the very big questions asked among themselves. As a whole, the book dived into more dangerous dilemma none of them are truly prepared for but always been cautious to the hellions and reapers. Moreover, it could be anyone that they would not easily recognize their real enemies. This book basically will be the death of me, in short. The humorous and all the things that I should be afraid of is all in this book.
The characters that were killed off He's probably one of the optimistic person in the room that's capable of humoring the situation besides Tod. I feel the hurt that Kaylee's been through and I understand what she has lost, suddenly slipped away from her life. Kaylee's character development has been truly remarkable even after facing the very last moment that's inevitable, she doesn't give up without a very hard fight to those who deserve justice. Her strength, I admire here has been recharged especially in Before I Wake. Absolutely, the book has captivated, absorbed me into the world of the unknown and Kaylee owns that, together with her family and friends.
Even the gruesome scenes that I should be disgusted with such as blood and grotesque descriptions of the dead bodies which I won't be able to imagine for long, I've read them, every single pages of them. I'm so intrigued by the untraceable, mysterious process of the hellions getting aboard the human plane and everything that wasn't possible before. There are time I think it's so torturous, it's messed up but very fitting as the story goes with all the situation.
The sequence order of the scenes are organized enough for the all the weaving lies become quite mysterious and needed to be solved. The fantasy and paranormal is the whole bonus as well as it's labelled for the whole amazing package! I find it also interesting to know that Sabine and Kaylee are friends. It's very unexpected to say at first but I'm glad everything worked out for both of them as I knew they were. Sabine's direct manner definitely earns my respect even when I think she can be rude at times, but at least she's truly honest in her opinions and thoughts.
I enjoyed every single moment spent that Tod and Kaylee shared. The intensity of their passion, sincere words, and everything in between them has pierced through my heart I love both the way they view their healthy relationship till eternity. I have no words for how much I would want more readers of the paranormal, fantasy, romance lovers read these books! It's better late than never! I highly recommend readers to read Soul Screamers! Literally just finishedthis 2 minutes ago.
So, I have to start with If I Die I liked this novel as usual but I did want to smack Kaylee from time to time because she ended up becoming pessimistic due to her upcoming 'death'. I felt like she could have handled things better instead of being Ms. Well, I do have to give her credit for coming through towards the end. I think the romance department surprised me quite a bit and for some reason I kinda' swerved in Tod's direction. Na Literally just finishedthis 2 minutes ago. Nash was self-destructive in more ways than one.
I still like him though despite everything. Never to Sleep This is the bonus novella included in this omnibus and it is told in Sophie, Kaylee's cousin's, perspective. To be honest I felt like Sophie was such a hypocrite that I really wanted to strangle her from time to time. She was selfish, self-absorbed and just plain shallow.
She annoyed me quite a bit that is until Luca entered the picture. I loved the fact that he was introduced in the novella.

He defintely has a bigger role in the upcoming novels. Kaylee is now undead and she's trying to adjust to being 'undead-while-still-trying-to-fit-in-with-the-rest-of-the-living'. I seriously wanted to smack her for some reason. She had too much angst and insecurities whatsoever. I get that she's adjusting amd everything but pushing everyone away is just plain annoying. She felt like she didn't belong anywhere but she ends up pushing everyone away anyway. I just didn't see her point. I really wanted to strangle her because of her pessimism and the way she brushes everyone off. Anyway, I loved the love story here and that ending was just.
I can't even say it without spoiling the entire book! Anyway, can't wait to get my hands on the last novel. Possible Spoilers With three books in one, it is impossible to try to divide the books down since I read them all without stop. Now the question is why would I do that since this is obviously not my favorite series.
Well, I do not know and I have thought about this a lot. Despite being a series full of flaws that nag at me, the story ans writing still has ensnared my attention to make me have to finish. The character's haven't changed much at all, but their positions in the book have which is goo Possible Spoilers With three books in one, it is impossible to try to divide the books down since I read them all without stop. The character's haven't changed much at all, but their positions in the book have which is good and bad. I have been hyping Tod up for a while so I am happy he now has a bigger role in the books.
He has conflict, passion, and more emotion than all the other characters out together. The thing is how he got his rise in position us crazy confusing and just written in as though there will be no questions. Also Alec showed such promise with his background in the Neverworld and his experiences but he is put to the background and delegated a tiny role that was just too unfortunate.
The redeeming qualities are all due to the ending of Before I Wake and Emma's situation. With one more book to go I just need to see how the author resolves all this. This volume includes books five and six in the Soul Screamers series, plus a short story in Sophie's perspective. I really like this series check the individually listed entries for my reviews of each story and the combined volumes look amazing on the shelf.
They are also the only way to have the extra content, like Sophie's short story, Never to Sleep, and a very brief not-even-enough-there-to-be-a-short-story of Tod's, A Day in the Afterlife of Tod, here, in print form. This volume is my favo This volume includes books five and six in the Soul Screamers series, plus a short story in Sophie's perspective. This volume is my favorite section of the whole series. The books really pick up in intensity and Sophie's short story surprised me by making me basically fall instantly in love with her.
This is only for Never To Sleep Novella Review Sophie never paid attention to what her cousin Kaylee do, she believes that she is in a higher social ladder than her. People get them confused with being sisters rather than cousins because of their last name. All Sophie wants is to live in her world, soon she learns that there is more to her world than she thinks.
Luca Tedesco wil This is only for Never To Sleep Novella Review Sophie never paid attention to what her cousin Kaylee do, she believes that she is in a higher social ladder than her. Luca Tedesco will change Sophie's world forever especially when the two of them end up in the Netherworld at school where Netherworld's worst nightmares lingers. Can Luca and Sophie survive the Netherworld? I give this a 5 cat's Tails up, I'm really glad that Rachel decided to do this novella in Sophie's POV, I feel now I understands Sophie's a little bit better even if it took five books to get there: Sep 17, Sarah rated it it was amazing.
First off, I adddoooorrrreee Tod. I don't know what changed between volume one and two of these books. I had to force myself to read volume one but I couldn't put down two or three. You can see other towns from there and a little Island called Caja de Muertos Coffin Island which is stunningly beautiful. Own or manage this property?
