Josephines Windows of Dreams

The description of the convent was unusual to say the least, I don't think the nuns would have had stained glass windows along the corridors! Possibly in their chapel, but not along the corridors. Neither would they have had 'ceilings dripping with beautiful works by ancient artists' also along the corridors - not a lot of research done. I have actually been in a convent in Blackburn - about fifty years ago. The story on the back cover misled me to expect a different story. Amy Atkinson and her friend Daisy called him the Tuesday Man — this was Luke Hammond, the wealthy owner of a local factory.

Luke took every Tuesday off to go and spend some time at his cabin in the woods. For weeks Daisy and Amy would talk about him, they n I enjoyed this book most of the way but I was disappointed with the ending and it seemed a bit rushed to me. For weeks Daisy and Amy would talk about him, they never knew who he was. Luke was attracted to Amy but he was married to a wife who was mentally ill due to a bashing she had received. It had some tragedy — I think that storyline was a little weak too. I read this book after losing my reading mojo. I wanted something easy to read and something light and that is what I got. I found he characters quite unbelievable; especially Amy who was perfect to the point of annoyance. The book plodded along at a fair pace until the last couple of chapters when it speeded towards a conclusion.

I don't think I will read anymore by this author but the book did serve Live the Dream is about two people learning to trust again when it comes to matters of the heart. I don't think I will read anymore by this author but the book did serve me for what I wanted it for.

It held my interest enough to keep going to the end, with the ending being so so. I haven't been put off reading Ms Cox as I have known so much better but if it had been my first I am not sure I would be in a rush for a second. Altho A little disappointed with this, normally I love Josephine Cox books and find them hard to put down. Although maybe for the good parts.

Maybe I have just read too much of her of late and need a break. Jul 04, Debra rated it it was amazing. Another one of Josephine Cox books that I really enjoyed! I like the way that with each of the books I have read of hers so far the stories have the same feel to them, the way the characters go through something painful in the past and now they have to come to terms with that and move forward. A great story and I have a feeling I might have to be reading a lot more of her books in the future Jan 16, Ria rated it liked it.

A good book with some twist and turns. I like how cox can make me wonder about the way I handle my relationships. I liked the setting and perhaps how the story ended.

I admired the character of Jack, even the friendship between him and Roy. Watch out for them.

It was such a beautiful house, he thought Like she used to be. His thoughts shifted to the woman inside. She was still beautiful, and sometimes, when she was afraid, her warm hand would slip into his. But that was all. There was rarely any passion in her gesture.

Seldom a smile or welcome in her eyes. She neither loved nor wanted him. But it wasn't her fault -- he knew that. He still loved her, but he didn't know her any more, not in the way he used to.

He felt such deep regret, and yet, in a strange way, he was also relieved, as though he no longer needed to prove anything. There was no need. There was no one to care. He had loved this fine house since that first day, seven years ago, when he had carried his wife through the wide, oaken doors and swung her round while she held on to him, laughing and happy, her beautiful face glowing with love for him and, oh, how he had adored her in return.

I also think the author could have explained a bit more about the racism that was so prevalent in those days, rather than stick to a vague "the rules were different if your skin color was black". The strong and vibrant colors that are used for the illustrations are a perfect match for this vibrant and unique woman.

Visually this book is a real gem! I didn't know much about Josephine Baker before this and I have become very intrigued. She must have been a very courageous and strong woman to spy during WWII to aid the French resistance, as well as help fight for equal rights for African-American people in the USA and also a very generous and loving one, opening up her heart and adopting, not 1, not I'm off to have a look at the biographies mentioned at the end of the book!

I am becoming a huge fan of the "Little People, Big Dreams" series. There are so many great people, but many biographies go unread. This series peaks the interest of young readers with basic, simple facts about the person with the hope that they will do further investigation on their own. In this book we learn a lot of facts about Josephine Baker and the times that she lived. There was a lot I learned as I read this book, so even though it is geared at children by keeping the information short and to the point, any age could read this book.

It discusses important issues such as segregation and World War II. It included information from her life and did not just focus on her dancing abilities. It included information about her being a spy, adopting children, having a variety of pets and marching for civil rights. At the back of the book you will find actual photos and other biographical information as well.

Josephine Baker was born in St. Early in her life, she noticed that white people lived differently than she did. Josephine used her natural talent to leave St. She ended up in New York, but was still limited because she was a black woman, so she moved to France to become even more famous.

I loved the bright contrasting art in this volume. I also loved the way the hair was colored, and how Josephine almost always seemed like she was in motion. This was a fun entry in this series. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook. That made me laugh, but I suppose it has its point. Interesting point made that in France people of all races intermingled without a problem, though I find that farfetched.
