The story is very shoujo romance inspired, and centers around the love lives of a group of friends in high school and how they handle their growing feelings as time passes. However, the main focus shifts often. The first section of the story is centered on the six person group of Yuu , Natsuki , Haruki , Miou , Souta , and Akari. Later songs give proper introductions to other potential couples and their relationship woes, who form a secondary group-- Koyuki , a friend of Souta's who changes his appearance in the hopes of winning over Natsuki; Yuu and Natsuki's siblings Hina and Koutarou , who are in a one-sided love triangle because of Hina's affection for Koyuki and Koutarou's crush on Hina; Sena and Midori , a teen model and another student who want to get together but can't approach each other the way they want to; and Ken and Arisa , a playboy and friend of Koutarou and the outspoken girl who didn't initially fall for his charms.
There are, however, a number of songs in the series both in-canon and as bonuses that are sung by various groups and the cast's voice actors that are available on the CD sets and the official accounts. They have dinner togeth Amish romances apparently aren't my thing because I'm a lazy "Englischer. They have dinner together a few times, share some buggy rides and boom! Jenny starts to realize that the modern world is only good for little things like patching you up after car bombs and physical therapy, and the REAL deal is living the Plain Life. I quit this book when Matthew's sister tells him it's time to remarry and get a new mom for his hard-working-not-whiny-like-the-English-kids children.
I read this book on my Nook while wearing pants in my climate controlled apartment, which I'm sure the author thinks makes me a spoiled person. For a good book club activity, take a drink every time you read the word "quilt. Feb 09, LadyCalico rated it it was amazing.
One of the better bonnet romances that I've ever read. The people actually behaved like real sane, sensible people and handled their problems and joys accordingly, with none of that idiotic "secret" stuff that usually drags-out most of these Amish stories in a nonsensical manner. They had real problems; they talk things out; they worked things out, finding wisdom and strength in their faith--how delightfully original! I hate so-called "Christian" fiction that portrays believers as more stupid an One of the better bonnet romances that I've ever read.
I hate so-called "Christian" fiction that portrays believers as more stupid and hysterical than your average adult and greatly prefer books like this where there is natural and realistic wisdom, comfort, and growth instead of stupid secrets and soap-opera histrionics. I found this book and its realistic and lovable characters and story an absolutely delightful breath of fresh air. Apr 05, Tina Watson rated it it was amazing Shelves: This was my first book read by Barbara Cameron and I feel in love with the book in the first chapter.
I cant wait to read the next book in the series; looks to be about Hannah. Jenny is no stranger to the Amish culture for her grandmother is Amish, and her father left the community but still followed the Amish faith out in the Englisch world. Jenny is recovering at her grandmother's after months of being in the hospital healing. Jenny is reunitied with her crush of summers ago. Matthew is healing This was my first book read by Barbara Cameron and I feel in love with the book in the first chapter. Matthew is healing from the lose of his wife after three years of being a parent to three children, but with the help of his sister.
Will Jenny and Matthew reconnect as a couple? Will there be other plans from someone else? Jul 05, Janice rated it it was amazing. I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I thought it would be a bore but I thoroughly enjoyed the story about Jenny and her journey to love. I thought it was realistic up to the point where she decided to give up her lifestyle and marry Matthew.
I felt it would have been a tad bit more believable if there had been a bit more toiling in her thought processes about giving up her current lifestyle to join the Amish faith. Maybe that will be expounded upon more in the series. The connection between I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The connection between Jenny and Annie pulled at mY heart strings as well as the development of her relationship with Mary and Joshua.
I loved her strength and vulnerability. I'm glad I read it and not passed it up for something else with a quilt on it. Jan 03, Caitlyn Santi rated it really liked it. Okay so I admit I'm not usually a huge Amish fiction fan. And honestly the only reason why I chose to read this book was because I needed a book with a quilt on the cover for a reading challenge. However, I was very surprised at how much I found myself truly enjoying this book! The storyline was very unique and I found myself falling in love with the characters, especially Matthew's precious daughter Annie!
I really don't want to give anything away so I will just say that this book was so much b Okay so I admit I'm not usually a huge Amish fiction fan. I really don't want to give anything away so I will just say that this book was so much better than I thought it would be, and I just might decide to read the rest of the series at some point in the future!
I recommend this book, even if you don't usually like Amish fiction I encourage you to give it a try! Jan 28, Dianne rated it liked it Recommended to Dianne by: A war correspondent is severely injured in a bombing attack while on assignment. She is sent to her Amish grandmother's to recuperate. He befriends her again and the spark is re-kindled, but their worlds are so different, can they make it work? Barbara A war correspondent is severely injured in a bombing attack while on assignment. Barbara Cameron's writing is full of warmth, is easy to read, and adds bits and pieces about Amish life that help add depth to the story. Mar 22, Cathy rated it did not like it.
I didn't care for this book. It felt contrived and unreal, it was very simple. I knew the ending after the first few pages. The beginning with Jenny's outburst at the stop sign seems like a completely different Jenny than the rest of the book. I read the chapter of the next book. I bet the stranger is going to marry Hannah. Altho I've made it a goal to read all the quilt fiction I find, but I don't want to read the next book of the series. Jan 02, Shannah Mauney rated it it was amazing. I loved this book! You never read stories about the civilians who volunteered to go into a war zone and how it affects them, so this story caught my interest from the start.
The love story of Jenny and Matthew was so sweet! I was cheering each of them on in their journey! Overall, this was a fantastic book and I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
Mar 23, Nicole rated it it was ok Shelves: This book can be summed up in one word: Although it is always interesting to catch a glimpse inside the Amish culture. I guess it's true that you get what you pay for. Jun 10, Katrinadohn Dohn rated it did not like it. Got this book as a freebie on my Nook. It was corny, cheesy and predctable and what little story line there was just didn't ring true. I'm not sure why I spent the time finishing it, but I did.
Sep 05, Vannetta Chapman rated it really liked it. I'm very excited about this book - seems to combine a contemporary suspense with Amish fiction. Jul 19, Mandi Duncan rated it liked it.
The book was cute if you could get past some of the technical writing issues. Tiny things like misspelled words or words written twice which should have been caught by the editors. However, the book itself is a charming love story Learning to love oneself, learning to love and trust God and falling in love with the right man. I liked it overall. Nov 04, Lizw rated it liked it. For anyone who has spent time in Lancaster County and who has fallen in love with the culture and the people, this is a moment of peace.
Not great literature - but full of plain folk love. Enjoyed This was a good story of healing and finding love. I liked the character arch and very much enjoyed Barbara Cameron's style and voice. Dec 14, Dee marked it as to-read. Nov 02, Camille rated it it was amazing Shelves: I have to start out by saying this book was absolutely fantastic. I was able to review this book through NetGalley, and it's probably been one of my favorite books I've yet reviewed by them!
A Time To Love had me hooked from the first page, and I could hardly put it down. This is the beautiful story of Jenny, a news reporter who has been horribly injured overseas in a car bombing. She had made it her life's work to bring attention to the needs of children whose lives were d I have to start out by saying this book was absolutely fantastic. She had made it her life's work to bring attention to the needs of children whose lives were destroyed by war overseas. However, Jenny has been so badly injured that she has to take time off to heal. Her mother and farther have both passed away and so she goes to her grandmother's welcome arms in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Jenny's grandmother is a devout Amish woman and Jenny is familiar with the lifestyle of the Amish, especially since her father was raised Amish but decided to leave the church. She finds it a great place of healing, peace, and is able to begin to restore both her mind and body after the terror of what she has experienced. The beautiful peaceful simple life of the country quickly appeals to Jenny as she begins to learn more about Amish ways from her grandmother. She quickly rekindles her friendship from her youth with her neighbor, Matthew, and befriends his sister, Hannah, and Matthew's three children.
Being back in Lancaster reminds Jenny of the almost-romance she had with Matthew when she was younger, before she went to college. Since then Matthew married, had children and lost his wife to cancer. However, Jenny cannot forget the relationship that they had begun to build but does not know if Matthew remembers it, or if it is just in the past.
After all, what Amish man could realistically end up with an English woman like her? Through the patience and love of her grandmother and friends Jenny begins to heal while working hard in physical therapy and resting in the Amish countryside. She and Matthew get closer and she finds herself wondering if there can't be something there, between them, that might develop and bloom. However, things are never as simple as they seem and Jenny needs more surgery to repair her injuries, and may never be able to have children herself, something she thinks would make Matthew not at all interested in her.
Will Matthew and Jenny end up together? Or will the differences between Amish life and English life prove to be to much for their ancient history? If not, will Jenny be prepared to give up everything she needs to in order to join the Plain People, or will her desire to help the children make it impossible for her to leave her career behind? Read A Time To Love to find out! Barbara Cameron is an amazing author. I have never read a book by her before, and now I am sorry that I haven't. I absolutely loved this book. It is a beautiful story about true love finding its way after many years.
I found it so peaceful, but also captivating. Jenny is clearly a broken woman when she arrives at her grandmother's and her life isn't complete but she does not know yet what she needs to make her life feel full. I think Barbara Cameron did a great job immersing her audience in Amish life as well as bringing a feel of peace and understanding to her audience.
Also, she captivated me easily from the beginning of page one, something that is very difficult to do with me sometimes, but often is determinative of if I like the book or not. I anxiously await the next book in this series from this wonderful author. I can only hope NetGalley will have her next book available for review too, but if not I'll be reading it anyway, that is something I can guarantee. Barbara Cameron twists the typical storyline of an "English" woman falling in love with an Amish man in her first novel in the Quilts of Lancaster series. Jenny has always felt a special connection to her grandmother's Amish community, despite her father leaving the faith as a teenager.
When she's injured while reporting from a war-torn country, Jenny decides to recuperate in Lancaster, where she feels at peace.
There she reconnects with Matthew, a man she became friends with on her childhood su Barbara Cameron twists the typical storyline of an "English" woman falling in love with an Amish man in her first novel in the Quilts of Lancaster series. There she reconnects with Matthew, a man she became friends with on her childhood summer visits, whom she discovers she still has a crush on. But Jenny's still hurting, both physically and emotionally, and she's not sure if she's ready for a relationship - let alone one with a widower who has three children and belongs to a completely separate part of society.
It's going to take the help of the handsome farmer himself, his adorable children, his meddling sister and Jenny's ever-faithful grandmother to convince Jenny that God has brilliant plans for her future, no matter how bleak the repercussions of her accident may look. Jenny is the anti-heroine: She's a woman that we should all be able to relate to.
I loved that Barbara Cameron dared to create a character who struggled with her movements and speech; Jenny struggles with things that we take for granted yet she still manages to make new friends and fall in love. Her lifestyle is also unconventional, having spent most of her adult life in war-torn countries reporting on how children are suffering. Cameron really makes us feel the heart that Jenny has for the children she meets, and how she wonders if she's let opportunities disappear from her life because of her career.
More and more women in today's society are getting married late and put off having families because they want to focus on their jobs, like Jenny, which is what makes her an appealing and modern character. Her love interest, Matthew, is also appealing. He's an old-fashioned gentleman, always eager to help Jenny and constantly looking for opportunities to visit her, which is most endearing! Matthew is father to three children, and I have to admit that I like the storyline of a single woman falling in love with a man with a past and a brood of kids.
The children added humour and lightness to the story and served to show us what a loving woman Jenny is. Not only does she fall in love with the Amish and Matthew, but Jenny becomes enamoured with his children. Annie in particular was incredibly cute and I'm sure every reader will have a soft spot in their heart for her. I was incredibly impressed with Barbara Cameron's venture into the genre of Amish fiction and especially pleased with her unique take on the genre.
Jenny had previous connections with the Amish community through her grandparents which made her involvement with the People, and her interest in Matthew, all the more believable. I also loved how Jenny wasn't a typical romantic heroine and had the same struggles that we all have - and much more. This is a fantastic novel and I'll definitely be looking out for the second in the series, A Time to Heal, in March Nov 29, SheLove2Read rated it it was amazing Shelves: This was a wonderful, emotional, thought provoking story that I simply couldn't put down.

Jenny went to college and became a tv reporter who brought to the forefront the forgotten victims of war: Its during one of these foreign assignments that she is critically injured by a car bomb. After multiple surgeries, she returns to her Grossmuder's home to heal and recuperate. Jenny has suffered greatly. She has memory loss, a speech impairment and difficulty walking.
She's in near constant pain when she arrives. Her near death experience changed her significantly from the woman she once was. Its while she is there receiving the loving care of Phoebe that she rekindles her friendship with the young Amish boy, now a man, she fell in love with at Matthew loved Jenny but when she returned to NYC and never returned, he moved on with his life, marrying and having 3 beautiful children.
But Matthew is now a widower, having lost his young wife to cancer. He works his farm and takes care of his children along with help from his sister Hannah. Seeing Jenny again is heartbreaking for him. He knows she is hurt and suffering and wants to help in any way he can, but he also knows Jenny has never really left his heart. He doesn't want to push her away, so he settles for friendship and a caring shoulder to lean on as Jenny struggles through her recovery. Along the way, both realize that their relationship has grown into something so much more than mere friendship.
Usually I shy away from any book that has children as a major part of the storyline, but this one reached out and grabbed me and dug its claws in tight. I simply couldn't put it down. Jenny's struggles made me cry more than a few times and seeing Matthew's quiet determined support of her was gut wrenching, for lack of a better term. Matthew is not a weak, beta male - he is strong and giving and a wonderful father or Daedi the Amish term for Daddy. If I was ever going to leave the world behind and join the Plain People, he is the type of man I would want.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Amish romance. Aug 18, Lorie rated it it was amazing Shelves: I was able to read this book though NetGalley and Abingdon Press. I was given a copy of the book for this review. The book is about a young woman named Jenny King. Jenny has been serving as a reporter in the war zone. Her goal was to bring the story of the innocent children to the people back home. As she is doing her job, she is involved in a car bombing.
She is badly hurt and rushed back to the states for medical c A Time to Love by Barbara Cameron is the first book I have read by this author. She is badly hurt and rushed back to the states for medical care. Jenny wakes up with a quilt on her that brings back memories of summers she spent with her Amish grandmother. She has a lot of memories from the times she spent with her grandmother.
Jenny has speech, memory and walking problems. As she spends time healing, she is able to reconnect with a love she found one summer visiting her grandmother. Matthew is now a widower and has three children. His sister, Hannah, lives with the family to help with the house and kids. Jenny goes through a painful recovery and finally finds love. Will she leave the work she loves behind and become Amish for love? Find that out in this book. It reminds me of classic Amish fiction and I really like those kinds of books.
The one thing that is not so classic though, is how the author added in the aspect of war and war victims and the problems the children in a war zone face. That was really unique and something I have not seen in a lot of other Amish fiction books, especially since the Amish do not believe in fighting in wars. The book gives you a look at the next book in the series and I have to admit that I wish I had not read it because it will now be hard to wait for the next book in the series.
There is also a recipe at the end of the book. The cook in me likes the novels that include recipes for me to enjoy.
