In "Creating an Online Presence," Cat Rambo gives us a whirlwind tour of various social media, and suggests ways that writers might use each of them to connect with readers and other writers, and even use them to organize research and story ideas. She also gives a good overview on setting up a writer's website, complete with a list of things to take into consideration when deciding on hosting and set-up.
While "Creating an Online Presence" is geared toward people with a basic familiarity with life on the internet, it is detailed enough that anyone from complete newbie to old pro should be able to glean interesting and useful information therefrom. Cat Rambo's publicity philosophy for social media is sensible and solid.
There is a lot of good, specific, detailed advice. This book is also 2 years old and I question some of the weights she gives to various sites that seem less popular now.
For example, I would have liked to have seen more attention to Tumblr, which has grown significantly in the past 2 years. So it lost one star, half for the unavoidable passage of time and half for the many typos in the ebook, which may have been electronically generated.

Actual strategic content is clear, helpful, and realistic. I read the book carefully and will be keeping it handy as a reference; it's worth working your way through it chapter by chapter. Though as with all books about this subject, a bit of the information is no longer current, the lessons offered are valid and worthwhile. This book is an easy to follow and an useful guide for people who want to create or upgrade their online presence. Helpful information but marred by a lack of proofreading. Cat Rambo details a fantastic amount of tools that will be useful to me as an author in the process of publishing my first eBook.
Even though the amount of information could be overwhelming, Cat introduces and defines each option with great detail and a wry humor. There are several times when she emphasizes the most important points in the book, which is very helpful.
At the end, she gives examples of efforts that did and didn't work for her. The books offers succinct advice for the best steps to follow and I am very appreciative of the guidance! I will be employing many of the items she describes - right away. What's nice about the book is that it touches on things that I can apply as a beginning author, but also has a great deal for me to put in my "eventually" category for when I am a more firmly planted author.
It is fun to see the whimsy of her personal writing appear in the book, as well! Extremely well written and very informative, without putting you to sleep.
