Not only was it easier, but if she was always wearing the same thing, her attire - and the severe hairstyle - never distracted from her professional demeanor. Sometimes she even resorted to dark-framed glasses to somewhat mask the vivid green of her eyes. Are you kidding me with this shit?
Dressing like this is a sign that she's just one step away from becoming Amish!
O Wait, no it's not! She also wears no jewelry and no make-up. Halfway to becoming Amish! View all 14 comments. This is my first book from Justine Davis and it certainly will not be my last!! It feels wrong to say that I enjoyed this book considering the subject matter of the story, but I really did. I have always had a fascination with the Amish and I loved the concept of this story of a non-Amish woman and an Amish man falling in love. Oh, and how could I not love Katie, Ruthie and Grace!!!
The part of the story that was difficult was reading a This is my first book from Justine Davis and it certainly will not be my last!! The part of the story that was difficult was reading about the abductions of the girls and in the end part of this plot is still unresolved. I am not sure how this is going to work since the rest of the books in The Coltons Of Eden Falls series are all by different authors.
I can only hope that I get to see more of Caleb and Emma throughout the series. I will also definitely be checking out more from Justine Davis. View all 4 comments. Aug 19, Rhonda rated it really liked it. I liked it but was not ready for the end of the story which I guess will be part of the other three books in the series. Somethings in the book seemed really familar to me somehow, but can't think of how or what to. Thier is not the swearing or sex scenes in the story nor is thier are a lot of the beliefs of the Amish besides thier plain ways and God's will.
So anyone can read these books and feel good about it. Emma Colton gets a phone call from her brother about three girls being missing and they are Amish from thier hometown.
Emma is a FBI Agent and this might be part of her case. Emma comes home to look into the case and see if she can help. Her brother is a policeman and looking for the girls in another way. Thier family ranch is right next to the amish community so she knows a little about thier ways. Emma is having some hardtimes dealing with somethings that happened to her in the last few years.
Carpenter Caleb Troyer is a widower with three young girls and his sister was helping to take care of her nieces is one of the missing Amish girls. Caleb and others agree that is sister they could see leavimg the Amish ways but not this way of just disappearing especially not saying goodbys to her nieces. Also why would Hannah leave in secret for she is in the age where it is not frowned upon to explore the English ways before choosing to stay Amish or leave.
Emma first notices the beautiful furniture in the store window than the handsome man she can't seem to take her eyes off. Then she meets his daughter and she realizes who she was stareing at. Caleb is not ready to start dating even though a lot of women are trying to get his attention now. But he finds himself wanting to know more about Emma because his daughters like her.
But they both know that they come from different worlds and can't be together. I like the characters and was drawn into the story. I wanted to know so much more and can't wait to read more about the characters. I was given this ebook to read in exchange of honest review by Netgalley.
Aug 02, Susan rated it it was amazing Shelves: Very good book, first in a series. Emma has returned to her hometown to help investigate the disappearance of three young Amish girls. She has been investigating a similar problem in Ohio. When she starts her investigation she needs to talk to all the members of the community, including the families of the missing girls.
When she gets to Caleb Troyer there is something about him that appeals to her. She finds herself spending more time in his company and that of his three children. I liked Emma Very good book, first in a series. I liked Emma and her determination to find the missing girls. I also really liked the respect she had for the Amish people and their way of life. She was fighting her attraction to Caleb because she knows that their worlds are too different. She also discovered as the days went on that the peace of Caleb's world was soothing her own demons from an event two years earlier.
I also really liked Caleb. As a widower he was the only parent for his girls. I loved how caring he was with them, and how much he wanted them to be happy. He knows that they need a woman in their lives but is content to let the community help him with that. He feels tremendous guilt over the death of his wife, feeling that he should have been able to do something to save her.
When his attraction to Emma becomes stronger and stronger he doesn't know what to do. He wants Emma in his life, but he doesn't see how they can combine their lives. I found the end of the book very interesting, even though the mystery still hasn't ended.
I will be interested to see the end of the series and how Caleb and Emma get their happy ending. Nov 30, Carolyn E rated it really liked it. I really enjoyed this story. However, anyone reading it needs to be aware that this is the first book in "The Coltons of Eden Falls [Pennsylvania]" series. So the story doesn't really end with this book. It continues in Books 2, 3, and 4. Nevertheless, it is a good story, and I plan to read the rest of the series as soon as I can get them.
They have all been released. Nov 19, Kate rated it really liked it. I loved it for its novelty. What made it different from other Amish romances were first that the Amish character was a man and the Englisher was a woman.
Her family's restaurant makes the best delicacies around, but you don't see eligible bachelors flocking around her. Cavanaugh Justice - 15 Silhouette Intimate Moments - Her only hope for survival? Cavanaugh Justice - 29 Silhouette Intimate Moments - There's more than the inn at stake… Logan MacArthur had to have grown up under a rock.
Most do the opposite: It also was distinct because view spoiler [instead of the Amish character leaving the faith, the story seems to lead to Emma joining the faith. The story rather beats it to death that Emma is weary of the dangers of modern life -- that part seems a bit shallow, that Emma's I loved it for its novelty. The story rather beats it to death that Emma is weary of the dangers of modern life -- that part seems a bit shallow, that Emma's interest in Amish life is that she has PTSD. It does establish that she appreciates the over-romanticized simplicity of life in Paradise Ridge.
Another shallow premise for a life-changing decision. However, Caleb has established his family in a warm, caring place for his daughters to grow up. That is a valid enough reason why he wouldn't want to leave. I'd love to know what happens next, but I got this book from a used bookstore and it's a crapshoot if I'll be able to find the other books in the miniseries. This book takes us into Amish country, three young Amish girls have gone missing. Emma Colton,FBI agent is called by a family member to help on the case. Emma meets Caleb Troyer, his sister is one of the missing girls. Emma investigates and finally gets a lead. Emma and Caleb are attracted to each other, they fight the attraction to each other. I was disappointed with the ending of this book I was expecting a big fight scene and for the girls to all be found alive and well.
