I do think that Frank Davey did the best with the material available to him, but to me the lack of this information made the reading less than perfect. In Barrie adult life I especially found the Therafields fascinating.
I really wish there was more on them in it! I really need to look more up on this group. I really got a bad feeling about Lea Hindley Smith, seems to be such an unpleasant person. And this is what makes it even more interesting to understand how this group was working with her being the center for such a long time.
I liked how the author connected bp's poetry to his life and the feelings he had. At the same time there were so many parts about his poetry where I was getting a bit bored, because I don't know enough about it and it was also not analyzing his life so much. So in short, I did like the book.
I think the idea was great and the author did a good job at it. I found a lot of things that interest me and learned a lot about bp and Canadian poetry.
At the same time there was a bit less about the topics I was interested in than I would like and a bit more about the ones that I am less interested in. I would still recommend the book and think that someone who is more interested in poetry will like the book even more than I do. Sep 15, Amber rated it really liked it.
