In fact, the action scenes never stick in my mind like the romance scenes tend to. It was a rather unexpected turn of events in this book, a turn of events many will not be pleased about, but it has left me super intrigued to see what comes next in the series. It is unclear how things will play out, and I cannot wait to find out more. I need to know what comes next. Jun 18, Beth added it Shelves: I'm going to have to give this one a second read.
Jun 17, Amanda rated it it was amazing. Another absolute hit, could not put it down! I can't wait for Torment in September! Jun 19, Ira marked it as to-read Shelves: So, if I remove 'want to read' tag, I can't write my opinion here, well fair enough!
But, I don't want to read this book!! Because I just read the spoiler, if you love book 1, don't bother reading this one. Apparently the author view spoiler [killed Godric's soul, what the hell does it mean? He is dead and Poppy with other guy?. I'm done with this series!! View all 6 comments.
Jul 06, Jay Eats Books rated it did not like it. Awful Novella This felt like it was written by a different author than the first book. The characters felt completely different, and the protagonist was just dumb and selfish. What in the world?
The protagonist is so stupid and selfish. She makes poor decisions, and the death isn't even a good death that does the characters or story justice. Jun 19, Lillian rated it really liked it Shelves: Transcend by Scarlett Dawn built me up and then gutted me. Following Trigger , the second book in the Origin series takes on a new couple while continuing the plot thread of the previous book. While I made no secret of my lack of interest in Trigger , I found myself engrossed in Transcend and fell in love with the characters and world Scarlett has created.
Mina is perhaps my favorite character in the series so far. It took some getting used to but I liked it. It helped to flesh the character out more. Mina is NOT a naive girl either. She is smart remember scholar!! Not the case with this book!
He was one of my favorite characters in the last book and I loved getting to see him in this book. Like Mina, he has a formal air about him. He is very serious but also has a playful side, like the cat he becomes. He is kind and gentle with Mina and basically gives her everything she needs without her having to ask.
While obviously this is a paranormal romance with a dash of dystopia, the book also focuses on the overall series plot that was set up in Trigger. Something is happening, something is after Poppy and now Mina.

Who is after them? There are as many answers as there are questions in this book. I knew it was coming and it still gutted me. Overall I enjoyed Transcend much more than its predecessor. Mina and Finn were believable as a couple. I liked the sweet build up of romance between Mina and Finn. If you enjoy paranormal romance, I highly recommend this book. Sep 12, Stephanie rated it it was amazing. I wasn't sure I wanted to continue the series as I find that sometimes the first book is the best and they go down hill.
That was totally not the case. The characters are just as adorable in this book as they were in the first. I absolutely adore the guys. I mean Finn is just so But I love all the guys Cass again in just amazing. I still like God but not as much as the rest of the guys. The plot is getting really interesting and the ending was magnif Another fabulous read.
The plot is getting really interesting and the ending was magnificently horrible I will be sitting up just to read the next book right frickin' now Jun 21, ZordeeKat rated it it was amazing. In love I am simply in love with this series. At first i wasnt sure i was going to like this new series, but tudged my way through the first book and then waited patiently for the next. Now the next one is here and it was well worth the wait. Jun 18, Jennifer rated it it was amazing Shelves: I have tried so hard I couldn't see to finish the book for about five minutes.
I am hoping and praying that this is a temporary thing and somehow things can get figured out to fix this horrible thing. Beyond this horrible or horribles, I loved this story. These two are so smoking hot together it's unreal. There is so much going on there and her strength is incredible inside and out. The things he sees ugh I want things to be better for him so badly! Man I can't wait for the next book! Jun 19, Girlfred2 rated it really liked it. Wait for the Boom!
A return of many the characters you loved from the first origins book with a few new ones added bring a deeper level to the story. With the fun and witty banter Scarlet Dawn is known for you will enjoy Mina and Finns story. And wait for the hook at the end that will leave you wanting the next book. Jun 18, Nicole rated it really liked it. The first book in the series was captivating and I was really excited to dive into this second piece. Finn and Mina's story was less intense than Poppy and Godric's, but it was nonetheless page turning.
This book established a road map and kept me curious about what's next. My jaw dropped and I'm anxious for this next book to take my next adventure. It's difficult to judge one piece of a series because they are all needed to get the full picture and understand the characters and their challenges The first book in the series was captivating and I was really excited to dive into this second piece.
It's difficult to judge one piece of a series because they are all needed to get the full picture and understand the characters and their challenges. However, with that said, Transcend definitely served its purpose and I was thoroughly entertained. Jun 18, Trisha Turner rated it really liked it. Cried my eyes out!!
I loved it and hated it, so it is a fantastic book!! Loved the two main characters so much, the female was perfect the male was so funny! I can't wait for the next one. Jun 25, Anna rated it liked it Shelves: So, the Transcend is the second book in the Origin series and, to be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. Our main character Mina is aware of the existence of shifters due to accidentally witnessing men turning into animals one day.
So, because she doesn't really understands what she saw, Mina considers shifters to be monsters and freaks of nature. A perfect example of hating something because you don't understand it. But her opinion starts to waver when those said monsters save her whe So, the Transcend is the second book in the Origin series and, to be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. But her opinion starts to waver when those said monsters save her when she's kidnaped.
The whole story was confusing for me. First of all, the main characters. On the one hand, I liked how hopeful Finn was about the possibility of Mina being his mate, and Mina feeling the same way. I liked that they were fully committed toward each other. On the other hand, they met and then they were just together. There was no 'getting to know each other' period. But that all pales in comparison to the other event of the book.
I liked how she and Mina worked together and their training session was funny, but in this book Poppy doesn't look quite as badass anymore. She looked more like a fainting damsel than a smart and confident soldier.
The whole book was one confusing mess to me, but especially so the ending. I didn't understand why Finn and Cass had to go all Jimble-Wamble-Boom on Poppy and I especially don't understand why the fuck she hadn't listened to Cass and his warnings.
Jesus, I never saw that coming and I don't understand why it had to happened. God, I'd love to get my hands on that book. So, in the end, I was left completely flabbergasted, but still wanting more. Jun 22, Mimi rated it it was ok. Wtf did I just read?! What did I just read?
This book fell flat compared to trigger. It took me a long time to warm up to Finns mate. I ended up liking her. Why God is dead. They're supposed to be immortal, how does a bomb kill the king? It just plain doesn't make any sense, whatsoever. The whole story was very jumpy. I don't understand how w Wtf did I just read?! I don't understand how we went from Trigger to this. There was for shadowing but it felt pushed, it didn't correspond with the world Scarlett crafted for us.
I'm at a loss for words. I did not enjoy this book.
It did make me interested in the development of other characters. This book had no follow through. So many questions and contridictions. The king is immortal. They were ready to blow themselves up if plan 1 failed. Why does that now change? Totally lost for words. I'm quite disappointed with this book and I know Scarlett could have done much better than this.
Jun 21, Clarke rated it did not like it Shelves: If I could unread this book I would. I don't have anything nice to say about what the author did to the series and the characters. In this book she did no world building and tore down the characters from the previous book.
Poppy went from a strong capable character to a rash idiot. Finn got a know it all for a mate and God lost h If I could unread this book I would. Finn got a know it all for a mate and God lost his soul.

A vampire himself, Lucan is a Breed warrior, sworn to protect his kind—and the unwitting humans existing alongside them—from the mounting threat of the Rogues. She's not the badass, ass kicking heroine Scarlett Dawn usually writes but she's still strong in her o Better than expected and I expected a lot: He is very serious but also has a playful side, like the cat he becomes.
I'll give the next book a chance but I really wish I could forget what I read here. Jul 18, Judi Easley rated it really liked it Recommends it for: Readers of Dystopian Fantasy with Romance. I was provided a free copy of this book by the author. I am providing an honest review in which all opinions are fully my own. I am not being compensated in any way. Well, here's the second book in the series. And book three, Torment, will be out in September! This is the second book in the Origin series. I reiterate that point becaus My Disclaimer: I reiterate that point because I feel having read it that you should read Trigger first to know most of the characters and understand the world.
People like Godric King and his mate Poppy, his father Theron are from the first book. As are Cassander and Finn Baker. The relationships in this whole group are interesting and mostly amusing. Finn and his new mate, Mina Kramer have an interesting relationship. And they must look spectacular together. But opposites do attract.
And these two are definitely attracted. This is a well-designed world, this dystopian Earth. Though that may change very soon. Just weapons for self-defense. Things run very smoothly under the shifter regime. Mina and Finn are hot together and are having a great time getting to know each other. He finds her adorable and amusing. Just a prick of the finger will tell the whole story. And because Poppy disappointed me. Get your copy and see what you think.
