    When my husband and I moved to Bend last year, we were branching out on our own — moving to an area where no friends or family already lived. Making new friends in our early days of Central Oregon living felt a little like being the new kid at school — no one to talk to in the hallways and wondering who we would sit with besides our cats at lunch. While adopting some of the strategies below, I also learned that some people really make it easy to connect, and I have come to appreciate those qualities of being authentic and easy to talk to.
