I was totally captivated and could not put this story down. Mia Amesworth is a social worker with not much of a life, because she is always working. Mia knows what it is like to This was one brilliant, heartwarming story. Mia knows what it is like to be in the foster system, since she experienced it herself. She has a big heart and some big dreams to try and make life easier for these forgotten children if she could just get some funds. But the love that Mia shows for the Smith's children is strong, warm and inspiring. Determined to keep them together as a family she is everything to these children.
So when the boys are caught breaking into Stone Mountain Ranch and stealing a statue as a prank, she will do anything to keep this from being reported to the police. Carter Williamson is hiding out after receiving death threats at his office. He is only at his secret ranch until they catch whoever is trying to kill him. The ranch was supposed to be safe and yet two small boys break a window and get inside.
But when their social worker shows up to try to get him not to press charges he is overtaken by desire, for the stunningly attractive, sweet, strong woman that is filled with passion and love for these children. So Carter comes up with a way the boys can pay him for the broken window, by working the price off as long as the lovely Mia chaperones them when they are at the ranch.
I loved Mia and Carter so much. The ease they had with each other as they meet and become friends and things develop. Then add the heat and desire that is so evident in everything they say and do for one another and you will not be able to put this story down. Will these two get a HEA. Will they catch whoever is trying to kill Carter before it is to late?
Received an ARC from the author and voluntarily wrote an honest review. Don't waste another minute reading this review. You need to read this book. Mia is a social worker doing her best to keep three troubled siblings together. Then she gets word that they've broken into a horse ranch at the edge of town and she needs to get there before the police are called. There's no way she'll be able to keep the two younger brothers and teenage sister together if the police get involved. Mia assumes the man who called her is the ranch manager and she works out a deal with him that he won't press charges if the boys pay for the broken window by working on the ranch.
Turns out, the ranch manager is actually Carter, the billionaire owner of the ranch. Though he is usually in California working, he's hiding out in his Colorado horse ranch due to death threats he's been receiving after some airbags in his cars turned out to be faulty and some people were killed. Carter listens to Mia talk to the boys about why they broke into ranch and saw the way she handled the situation and knew he wanted to get to know her, so he thought up the idea of her bringing them to the ranch as a perfect excuse to see more of her.
The kids really take a liking to working on the ranch and Carter and Mia become closer every time they see each other, with the flirting getting stronger, too. But can Carter keep himself, Mia, and the kids safe if the person threatening him finds out where he is?
Just who is behind the threats? What about the kids? I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more in this series. I hated to put down my Kindle, I was so invested in this story. What I enjoyed most about A Forever Kind of Love is watching Carter a Man who lived for his work and his Ranch and his wants or for that matter the things he never wanted to come to his attention that it might not be as bad as he always thought, but it could also have something to do with Mia and how he wanted it all with her.
Mia a woman who knows what she wants and will never have but trying to make the best of the situation at hand. Together Mia and Carter will fall in love and everything will change for the better as long as they have each other. This book was an amazing Read but everything I have read by Krista Lakes is a favorite of mine. This book has Mia a Social Worker that is just trying to help her kids stay out of trouble and together but seems they are always getting into trouble until one day a Billionaire has they work on his ranch to pay of the broken window, Carter a man who love creating cars and his ranch come across Mia and he finds that she is his missing piece to his puzzle and that he doesnt want to go through life without her in it, a love story.
If you like stories like this, then A Forever Kind of Love is a must! Jul 03, Meg rated it it was amazing. I felt the author had a great writing style and I feel it was a very well written book. Carter is a billionaire business man whose life has recently been threatened. He has decided to move into his Colorado Ranch to hide out until the threat on his life has disappeared. Little did he know that the ranch was going to be broken into by a trio of orphans.
Mia, the spunky social worker, has been working hard to keep the three siblings together. She feels they are the closest thing she will ever have to children since she was told that she would never be able to have children of her own. When she gets the call that they are in trouble she is worried they will be separated for good until Carter decides to allow them to work on the Ranch to pay for the broken window.
Once they start working on the Ranch the sparks start to fly between Carter and Mia. Do they get their happily ever after? You have to read the book to find out! There is hint of violence but nothing in too much detail and there was some sexual content but I felt the scenes are tastefully done. This book will give you the warm and fussy feelings we all love to have when reading a romance book and I feel it is a must read! Jun 29, Rebecca Grove rated it it was amazing. When Mia arrives and the situation is explained, Carter is kind enough to give the boys a chance to work off the cost of the window. His one demand is that Mia accompanies them. Mia agrees since she really wants to keep the family intact plus Carter is easy to spend time with. Carter is not sure what he is doing. This book was a nice change of pace for me. It was a sweet and clean romance with some intrigue and some surprises. Carter is a billionaire car maker who has secretly retreated to his Colorado ranch after a recent attempt on his life. Mia is a social worker who is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that every child assigned to her is permanently placed in a loving home. At this time, she is very attached to three orphaned children she is assigned to place. When she received a call from th This book was a nice change of pace for me.
When she received a call from the billionaire ranch that the two boys have been caught breaking and entering, she rushes there to stop the ranch manager from involving the police, because involving the law may result in the children being separated and moved into different foster homes. When they got to the heart of why the boys broke into the ranch, Carter decided to let the children work for him over the summer to pay for the damages they caused.
Their sister also volunteered to help them and Mia was drafted to supervise them. As they got to know each other more, they start to like each other and is willing to see where their relationship goes. Carter is willing but he is afraid to care more for Mia and the children when the threat on his life is now closer to home. Carter must now work harder to eliminate the threat as he grows care more for Mia and the children. Again, this story was sweet and engaging. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The kids and their interactions with the adults are just too cute. Jun 25, Lila Ford rated it it was amazing.
Another hit for Krista Lakes. I loved this story. Mia is a social worker who grew up in the system and she has taken it under her belt to help three children stay together as a family instead of being split up. Carter is hiding out on his ranch. The two boys in the family that Mia is watching over go to the ranch and break in and attempt to steal a trophy with Carter's name on it.
The quiet and private moments between Zoe and her husband are compelling, poignant, emotionally draining and heartbreaking. But now it's tainted I'm going to be honest here She feels they are the closest thing she will ever have to children since she was told that she would never be able to have children of her own. I loved this story.
How in the world did Stella manage to capture his devotion whereas Lily had to be the one to fight for him? It boggles the mind. The only answer I could think of is that Jax never really loved Lily in the first place despite of what he says. If Jax didn't love her then his actions would make sense now. I just couldn't buy into this whole soul mate idea when the actions of the characters are so contrary to what they were saying. Jax only moved on after he found Stella's letter essentially giving him permission to be with Lily.
ARC provided by the author for the blog tour in exchange for an honest review. View all comments. This review is based on an ARC not a draft copy that was received in good faith on 18th May. I have made edits in bold to my original review. One one hand, it was a complete clusterfuck and on the other, it was actually a really beautiful love story. Unfortunately for lovers of book 1, the love story we got in this book, was mainly between Jax and Stella. The prologue starts off at the exact moment where ABKOL ends when Jax drops his heartbreaking bombshell that in the six months since Lily told Jax where to go, he has started a relationship with study buddy Stella.
Not only that, but they are engaged to be married. We are then taken back to Jax's POV for the angsty parts in ABKOL, a lot of repetitiveness but we do get a glimpse as to why he made the decision to end things with Lily, albeit a lame one. Jax falls in love with Stella, and he really, really does love her.
I even fell in love with Stella a little bit, she was a sweet and genuine person who loved Jax with all her heart. She didn't try and get in Jax's pants until after Lily was out the picture, she waited it out and, if Lily hadn't turned down Jax's offer of a reconciliation, none of this whole mess would have happened. Stella knew that she wasn't the love of Jax's life, and she acted selfishly by not letting him go, but to be honest who could blame her under the circumstances which I won't reveal and I really don't think Jax would have left her anyway, he was determined to love her until he couldn't any more and that is exactly what happened.
One taught me how to love unconditionally, how to laugh, and how to feel the most incredible sensations And she said yes, I just could not fathom this. Jax constantly hurt Lily throughout both books and I will not ever understand why he was ever forgiven so easily. His love for Stella, however, I totally bought into that. Apparently in the revised version, Lily makes the offer to be their wedding photographer - I still find this unbelievably heartbreaking and does not alter my opinion.
I feel that Lily won the guy by default, he most definitely grew as a man during his time with Stella, and I do believe it was essential to his and Lily's journey, but the fact that Jax was often causing Lily so much pain just didn't sit well with me. I lost count of the amount of times that he slept with her and left her. I just couldn't forgive him for any of his behaviour. Lily didn't really have much character development either, she was hardly in it for a start.
I am going with a 3 star 2. I preferred this book, to the first 2. The writing was much better, I saw a significant improvement 3. Although I preferred this book to the first, it was still rage inducing and not my idea of a beautiful love story If you are hardcore, then by all means go ahead and read this series, but be warned, the angst is fucking high on the angst meter. Even I struggled with this and I am tough as old boots when it comes to angst. View all 82 comments. May 11, Stacy rated it did not like it Shelves: And not just at the book. This book was given to me as a blogger, for my honest opinion.
I didn't like it the first time. In fact I hated it. I was asked my opinion. Let me make that clear. So, I freely gave my opinion. My advise was not taken, which is fine. But when you ask for feedback and then ridicule my peers and I for being honest, I have a problem with you.
You tried to turn a villain into a saint. And hey, I've read books like that. They were g I'm mad. They were great because I wasn't deceived into thinking anything different. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am extremely open minded and fair. And I don't get mad easily. Well, I'm mad now. A letter changed your mind and freed you from your guilt? But it was okay to put Lily through hell over and over again?
Where was the guilt then? You didn't need a letter from Lily to marry Stella, and no Lily wasn't dead but she might as well have been with the way you rejected her. Perfect from book one? You aren't even a man.
You never made Lily you're first priority and NOW 4 months after you bury Stella you're gonna move on and act like nothing happened?? You broke her heart so many times, Jax!! And what would you have done if Stella lived??? I've never been so disappointed in a sequel. It's like I'm sorta happy they're together but I feel like I was put through so much unnecessary pain and frustration to get there.
And I know Lily wanted Jax more than anything in the world but she just let him back in so easily and didn't even put up a fight. And Lily was just like, yep you screwed me over-here let me give you a blow job. I want a do over.
I want my heart back and I want to move on, because books are my passion and I feel really screwed over by this book and not in the good way. It's like taking your kid to Disneyland walking through the front gates, giving them the possibility of greatness and then turning them around and leaving- shattering their hearts to bits and pieces. That's how I felt. And it feels personal, like why would someone do this to me?
I'm truly glad that Jax and Lily found their fate with each other. But the "journey" can kiss my ass. Normally I would never review so negatively, but I really care about my peers in the book community and I don't want people to have to feel this let down. But that possibility is gone!
Instead it turned into a Stella-thon of crap! I don't care how innocent you think you are Stella! And you ARE evil. No amount of revisions can fix that. View all 37 comments. It was not necessary to put that bullet in our trajectory, and for as much as I was waiting for this book, I really wish I had just read the ending and stayed in my happy place. The journey to that happy place is not something I want to take again — it was filled with a lot of pain and a lot of hate. Stella — I hate her as much as I hate Jax. She may come across as being saintly, but I see her in a different light. She is a manipulative bitch who was thinking of only herself.
She took happiness away from Jax and Lily!
She had an agenda with every calculating move she made. I know it was her that had the Elvis song played that Jax specifically said not to play.
That was probably the hardest scene in the entire book for me to read. Lily stands rigid, her eyes wide and full of unshed tears. Her stare hits me with a tsunami of sadness. He could have made this all better, but he chose not to. He should have tossed Stella aside when Lily came to him and professed her love to him, but instead he was going to do the right thing and marry Stella.
Then Stella comes up with an ingenius plan to have Lily be their wedding photographer see?? At what time did Jax ever think that was a good idea? But the worst part…he actually loves Stella! Where I really, really hated him the most was when he had the opportunity to finally be with Lily not once but twice and he pushed her away.
He lets a picture of a saintly woman in an idealic life cloud his judgement. He never redeemed himself to me and for that, I cannot justify liking him. He needed to grow a pair. Lily — Is a doormat. She may have matured into her own person since moving to New York City and being on her own, but she is letting Jax walk all over her and control her from miles away. He still manages to be the source of her pain even after having been broken up for a couple years and he being engaged. She has not been in a relationship and is hesitant to put herself out there again.
She should move on and cut her loss, but she is still so devoted to Jax.
Only you were put on this earth with the ability to give me a lifetime of pure happiness. You are everything to me. He should have stolen the thunder. If I had a chance to get the story rewritten, this is who I would have Lily end up with. As much as I did not care for the storyline, I do have to give credit for the writing. I had physical symptoms following the conclusion of this book.
I want to stop thinking about this book because it makes me angry every time I think about it. Jun 04, Lindsay rated it did not like it Shelves: What a piece of shit! I hated the guy. I think he was more lost than Sandra Bullock was in Gravity. Jax is not obligated to marry her as we were led to believe at the end of book 1 — he is head over heels madly passionately in love with her. Then have said love of your life be your wedding photographer and subject her to emotional torture by witnessing your incessant gushing over Saint Stella. You dedicate the majority of story to a secondary character who in essence is the transitional person for jax.
She is an afterthought on all levels. You reduce her to a spineless doormat. Why give Jax this epic love between them finding each other again and all Lilly gets is Trenton the douche, and Rob??? Lilly did not deserve that — she is a shell of her book 1 self and is made to be a complete mockery in book 2 3. NO , not in my book.
That Jax was truly madly deeply in love with her — it is completely contradictory. Again it is a way to absolve Saint Stella of any sin and make her likable to the reader. It did not sway me in the least — it actually made me dislike her more 4. There is no rational justification. My only thought is that somehow the author personally relates to the character of Stella, thus wanting the reader to empathize, relate and like her.
Changes made to original version were specifically done to absolve Stella of some not so nice deeds and make her more likable. It is a shame this book could have been an EPIC culmination these two so deserved. Instead we are left with a jagged bitter pill to swallow. View all 14 comments. I felt Lily was always his second and third choice, and his doormat waiting until the end of never for Jax to come to his senses.
I did love the Epilogue but it was too little too late. But, this new version is much worse than the revised one. I thought she would edit and add Jax inner struggles with his choices and missing and thinking about how much he loved LILY "the love of his life", but that was not the case at ALL. Were deleting sex scenes or glossed over. Now, Stella did not request for Lily to photograph their wedding, it was LILY who offered to do it as their wedding gift. Not the road to their beginning or the end however you want to look at it. How can you expect to give a Book about Jax and his journey with Stella and think that this would be ok?
Seriously change the blurb. Because is so misleading. Making us think Jax is suffering so much by having to do this things which in turn kept him away from his soulmate. So not the case. To me this was Jax and Stella's book. To me Lily was a part of his life that ended. And to be quite honest it should have. I felt that the connection between them brake and burn. When Lily walks away from Jax at the end of book 1 and tells him that she lost him, she was right And this book was the proof.
Throughout his book he totally set Lily aside but in her book he was a huge presence. Overall I enjoyed the book. I did not read book 1 before listening to this one. If time permits I may go back and buy book 1. I got this book from audiobook boom. A Forever Kind of Love: Choices Series Book 2: Ellie Wade The title of this book is a total lie.
Jax had no clue of forever and I doubt he knew anything of love. He was a spineless, hypocritical, and womanizing even if it was one woman , namely Lily character that I despised. Lily let herself be a doormat and kept coming back for more. If the author was trying to pull feelings from the listener she accomplished it but they were probably not the ones you might expect. The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed by Chris Abell and Caitlin Kelly.
If you could sum up A Forever Kind of Love in three words, what would they be? Who was your favorite character and why? I dont know how she did it! Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you? I did get angry with Jax several times. It was almost meant to be I have read a lot of reviews saying Stella was wrong.. Jax made the decision to be there for her, to make her last year of life memorable After reading book 1, I had to dive right into book I shed many tears and had angry times, but this story was completely special and Jax and Lily will stick with me for a very long time This story also shows how choices in life can destroy others, but true love will always find its way home!
If you are a believer in destiny A Forever Kind Of Love was even better than the first book. Lots of laughter and tears while listening to this book. And it really brings home "with every choice in life there is a consequence, good or bad". This is a must read or lessen. I listened this series back to back and If book 1 couldn't get worst, the 2nd book, this book is heartbreaking.
The main narrator in this story is Chris Abell and he played an awesome Jax, and he made me feel all of Jax's demons and struggles. Caitlin came back as Lily, and if you haven't heard Caitlin's narration, you should listen to her stuff, because she did not disappoint in a forever kind of love. Yup I sounded it out.
I was heartbroken right from the beginning, and it kept breaking and breaking, and I kept sobbing and sobbing. I think at one point I told Ellie Wade that she wasn't playing fair. This book, this series is like a Hallmark story.
