Ratings and Reviews 3 8 star ratings 3 reviews. Yes No Thanks for your feedback! Very detailed and informative. Sometimes difficult to read with lots of references to unfamiliar places and names that can be hard to keep track of. However, at a high level it gives a good picture of what the state of the empire was like before, during and after the reign of each emperor.
The author describes each emperor's character and many of the politics that affected so many of the decisions made in the empire. This is certainly a good read with lots of information about each and every emporer of the Roman Empire. To download from the iTunes Store, get iTunes now. Few books before have explored the exploits, achievements, and notorious antics of ancient Rome's imperial dynasties in such readable detail. This title sets out to describe the lives of every man and a few women who aspired to the purple, from Augustus in 27 BC to Justinian I, who died in AD —arguably the end of Rome's classical period.
Almost emperors, usurpers, pretenders and barbarian rulers of the period are brought vividly to life, illustrated by a mixture of drawings of their busts and coinage, and complemented by specially commissioned maps that clearly outline imperial ambitions and failures. Not only does its scope detail the lives all the Roman emperors until the end of the classical age in the mid-sixth century AD in a highly readable narrative text, but it also provides at least one portrait—coin or bust—of every single one.
