Great adaptation from Bible character to real life with little very little lost in enjoyment. One person found this helpful. I can't imagine how difficult it is to write a book, but this book was not what I hoped it would be.
I frequently teach adult Sunday School and I had high expectations that this book would allow me to teach a series of Sunday School lessons without the amount of background work that I often do for a class in addition to such books. However, I was disappointed. This book just did not come through as I hoped.

Hindson is a Professor at Liberty University and he has other books for students. I'm going to school and I have read his others books about the Bible and they are all informative about our God, Savior. May the Lord Bless You. What an amazing book. It puts some meat on the bones of the Bible in a great, faith increasing way. Each and every chapter has convicted me in some way. This book takes an easy to understand look at several key characters of the Old Testament and applies lessons from their lives to ours today. It addresses different areas of life, so some are more applicable than others, given where you're at personally.
The one criticism I had to this book was its decidedly patriarchal theology. It is written from the view of male leadership being ideal. The clearest example of this was the assessment of the story of Deborah in the book of Judges. This story, according to the book, shows us that the male leadership in Israel was so anemic that God needed to have a woman fill the role.
All told, though, a good applicational look at OT characters.
This book is great for a new Christian or a Christian who doesn't know much about the Old Testament, which unfortunately is a large percentage of Christians nowadays. If you don't know anything about the OT, it will help you get the big picture of what's going on. The prevalence of indwelling sin. The black clouds of desertion. The wrath of man, and fury of the persecutor. The dangerous situation of the Church and cause of God, and the approach of death. Some account of that faith which fortifies the soul against the fear of these evils. Sometimes it is called a trusting in the Lord, or a looking to the Lord, or a staying ourselves on the Lord, or a casting of our burden on the Lord.
Some of its ingredients are — a knowledge and uptaking of a God in Christ, revealing Himself as reconciled, and making over Himself to us in a well-ordered covenant. A firm and fixed persuasion of the truth and certainty of the whole revelation of God's mind and will in the Word. An application of the promises to the soul itself in particular. A persuasion of the power, love, and faithfulness of the Promiser.
A renouncing of all other refuges. Some concomitants of this faith. Jul 05, Corey Ramsey rated it it was amazing. Ed Hindson is a great teacher.

This is a wonderful book I first read as part of my course material for class, but then read it with my son, and then again for family devotions. This is a true staple to have for any Christian home. It shares some of the stories of the Bible giving a more in-depth look at the stories, struggles, and triumphs, turns it into something practical and relatable, then each chapter is ended with discussion questions about how the ready can improve their faith.
