The ending I felt really connected to God it's this Jesus thing at the end Content wise there are some battles and injuries. A couple kisses and angels and demons portrayed in the Christian view. Jul 13, Grace Touch rated it it was amazing Shelves: Some major FanGirling will ensue in the duration of this review. I cannot even begin to express the amount of perfection.
As I've mentioned before, i do so very much adore the Halfings series of books. I've said how much I've loved watching Nikki especially grow and find her purpose in life. Now more than ever, Nikki has found her purpose and she is driven to stick with it. Nikki has finally found her backbone and she is set on the path that she will walk; and she will fight wit Warning: Nikki has finally found her backbone and she is set on the path that she will walk; and she will fight with all she's got to keep to that path, possibly to the death.
She is someone to be admired, someone to look up to. I would be honored to follow in her footsteps as her path is steady, stable, and serves the best of purposes. Nikki is my hero, and my opinion of and connection to her only grows as I read on in her story of triumph and sacrifice. Nikki is not the only one to see much and major growth in this addition to the Halfling's journey. Though Nikki definitely saw some major growth in this story, above all, I think that this was a story for Raven and about him setting his feet on the path that would see to his own personal hope and spiritual strength.
Raven, up to this point, I have not been able to maintain much respect for. He was too much like every other self-centered A-hole pardon the language , that authors like to thrust upon the main character simply because he is an "Oh my gawsh, Drool worthy Bad-Boy! Shoot me please, and spare me the eye rolls. HOWEVER, when Raven made the choice to put Nikki's safety first, when she most desperately needed his support, he went against his very natured and put his own emotions aside in order to coax Nikki from the darkness.
In this moment he held my deepest of respects. A lesser being would not have been able to find the strength to do what he did; to let go of the very thing he had fought so hard and long for, in order to save her. My heart went out to Raven in this book, and I sincerely hope that he gets what he so richly deserves in the journey that awaits him after this book. I have had the best time following the Halflings family on their journey to achieving the greater good for the world and themselves.
I am beyond eager to see what lays in store for them next. And BIG changes are happening. The implications of the changes already occurring are monumental and I pray that the Halflings are prepared to face the ultimate challenges that lay in wait. For the worst is definitely left to come. I'm rooting for you, My Beloved Halflings Family!! Sep 05, Pauline rated it really liked it Shelves: For a minute, I thought it was the last book. A lot happens but there is no end to the threat. Vessler is more determined than ever to destroy the Halflings by the end of Avenger.
Avenger gave us lots of action, thrill and heart-stopping moments and a little bit of romance, but it was just a "transition" book if it makes any sense. You know the drill. First, it starts with Nikki on the run with Raven. This part, though important for Raven's character's growth, was not my favourite. They're on the run and they don't have time for anything else.
I had a hard time connecting with this part of the story until its conclusion. Then, they're back on Vessler's trail. That's where it gets very interesting. I loved the insight into Zero's head. Instead of being the "Elena Gilbert" that Nikki was at the beginning of the book, she really becomes the hero she's supposed to be when she tries to deal with Zero's situation on her own.
She decides that she doesn't want to run away anymore. She wants to fight and she's ready to die for the cause. In the meantime, everything seems to fall into place. Mace is finally at peace with Raven and gives a little more room to Nikki and when she's in danger, he embraces his leadership without going all macho man and over-protective and unreasonable. Raven has his own journey and is ready to go his own path Except now, he's willing to put his feelings for Nikki to rest for once and for all.
Nikki learns everything about herself and accepts it. The only thing I still don't get yet is Vine. Why would the author give us insight into his mind when he has just a supportive role. Not that I don't appreciate him, I like Vine. But it's strange when there is already so many characters to choose from like Mace, Raven, Nikki or in this case, Zero too. Is Burch paving the way to a storyline involving him and his match later? Raven, I'm pretty sure we'll get to see something like that.
It'd be nice to end the circle if we find Vine a girl. It ends with a dramatic ending which leaves a door open for unexpected twists in the future. Satisfying but no more running away please. I want them to stick together, preferably in one place. Feb 20, Becky rated it really liked it. I really enjoyed the first two books, sometimes I hated who the main character choose but hey, not always my choice. However, I found myself getting bored with this final book and had to force myself through it. It was sadly not what I was looking for.
What I Loved Nikki is a lot less torn in this book when compared to Guardian and I appreciated the toning down of the love triangle.
At first, while Raven and Nikki were on the run from the Seeker which was legitimately scary, by the way and Mace is back at Viennesse, I was the one torn. Raven was being, well, Raven part protector, part flirt , and Nikki wasn't having it. I liked that, but at the same time was wavering in my Mace loyalties.
The three main characters really seemed to have matured and I was really happy and proud of how they ended up: I can't say much here without revealing a huge spoiler, but let's just say the ending leaves a lot open for future stories! I really hope there is more to this series. A special thanks to Netgalley and Zonderkidz-Books for my copy of Avenger. Jul 18, Kat Snark rated it did not like it Shelves:
Any book that can make me wonder just who the heroin What I Loved Nikki is a lot less torn in this book when compared to Guardian and I appreciated the toning down of the love triangle. Any book that can make me wonder just who the heroine is going to end up with is a keeper. The fast pace and unrelenting action that I grew so fond of with both Halflings and Guardian returns full-force in the third book in the series.
So many answers are revealed in this one! Vessler is as evil as ever, but there's a twist to even his character in the end. Raven provides a key to his and Nikki's relationship page is pivotal. Mace is as dedicated and sweet as ever, but there's even a change in him that rockets up the respect level.
What I Didn't Like As Much I'm still unraveling the theological logic given on page , but, as with the other books, I appreciate that Heather Burch never distorts Scripture or says something that makes me squirm. This is a paranormal with half-angel, half-human beings, after all, though, so the super-unexpected ending and even the darkness is well-played.
This book gets quite dark without being over-the-top depressing there's plenty of comic relief, supplied mostly by the candy-loving Vine and surprisingly-heroic-but-still-adorably-nerdy Zero. I like the ending because it totally had me thinking we were going to lose a major character -- or all of them. Any book that can make me wonder if everyone's going to die -- and make that somehow seem strangely okay -- is a keeper. Oct 13, Ash rated it really liked it Shelves: I feel like Nikki backpedaled a little in this one. She had made so much progress in the second novel towards becoming the heroine, the Halfling, that she needed to be and she lost a lot of that in between.
I was a little annoyed with her character at times in the way that when you watch a horror movie you want to shake the idiot main character who always wants to do the exact wrong thing to do when you're in a horror movie. Nikki had her horror movie heroine moments.
But having read the entire I feel like Nikki backpedaled a little in this one. But having read the entire novel I think I can see why she needed them to get across the overall motif of the series. Because you do question yourself. You do make progress but you backpedal too. Religion became a stronger factor in this volume than either of the previous books but Heather Burch handled it in a way that made it not come across too preachy.
It was readable and didn't feel as if you were sitting in a sermon. Its one of those books that you don't necessarily want to put down but you can if you have to and there is no period of trying to get back into it, you're just there as if you never left. Overall I thought it was a solid novel and a good ending to what I believe to be a trilogy.
Jan 06, Kelly rated it really liked it. A special thanks to Netgalley and Zonderkidz-Books for my copy of Avenger. Avenger starts off basically where Guardian left off. Nikki and her fellow Halflings are trying to lie low. That is until Raven comes back, and wisks Nikki away in an effort to save her life from a creature that was sent to hunt her. While dodging this creature, Nikki manages meeting new friends, and trying to sort out her feelings for the two men in her life, all while trying to come to grips with who and what she is. The point of veiw in this book jumps around quite a bit.
I am not sure that I loved that. While I like all these characters, it is kind of challenging to jump around to so many different voices. But at the same time we get to see what all these characters are thinking. There is a good amount of action, there is quite a bit of sorting through feelings, and pining and self-doubting But all in all, it is a well written book. I was suprised that it is not just a trilogy. I was assuming it was. There is more adventure to be had, and more time to see what happens to Nikki and all the other halflings.
I have enjoyed the Halfling series. I like that it is a more morally influenced angel series than others out there. The relationships are not just insta-attraction, and then lets sleep together. There is more building on friendships and sacrifice which is what love is all about.
Thank you Heather Burch and Zonderkidz-Books for publishing a good book Jan 13, Starr rated it really liked it. A copy of this book was given to me free, in exchange for my honest opinion. This was the third and final book in the Halfling series. For the most part, I enjoyed this one. I actually think that this may be the best book out of the trilogy. In this installment, Nikki is a halfling and she knows it. She has ended the triangle by choosing -finally. But everything is far from over. Vesseler is still out there and still wants to turn her to create and lead an army of dark halflings.
Nikki must face A copy of this book was given to me free, in exchange for my honest opinion. Nikki must face and destroy the most dangerous enemy yet and it's not Vesseler or herself. Without giving too much away, this book is about more than just dealing with the dangerous enemy. Nikki has to face her current situation and deal with Vesseler. She is stronger and has a secret weapon. Everyone surprised me in this book, especially Raven. I thought that we were past doing rash and impulsive things since nothing good ever comes from it.
But I guess not. I was also certain that Nikki would stop whining. Again, I was wrong. Right when she would start to toughen up, she would fall back into old habits. I like Raven a lot more in this installment. It seems that he still had some growing pains to go through. The ending was not what I expected, but a lot more of what I did expect.
The problems that I had with it are: I did enjoy it, but there was still something about it that bothered me a little. Jun 13, Meagan Myhren-bennett rated it it was amazing Shelves: Something is coming after Nikki and nothing can stop it.
Raven is determined to keep Nikki safe and takes her into hiding. But where can you hide when your blood is calling to your enemy? The other Halflings are hiding something from Nikki, something about her past and Vessler. Something that Nikki feels she needs to know. But the others are trying to protect Nikki from the truth of what Vessler has planned for her. Nikki's need to know gives Vessler what he needs to bring Nikki to him of her own free will. Now if he can just turn her Nikki will become the mother to a race of Darklings who will destroy the Halflings.
Avenger is Nikki's journey of discovery. A journey of the spiritual. A journey of the heart. A journey of self. And a journey of sacrifice. Join Nikki as she discovers what it is to be a Halfling and the desires of her heart. Avenger brings Nikki's journey of discovery to an exciting and emotional end. I highly recommend Avenger to anyone who has read the previous two books Halfings and Guardian and well as fans of YA and speculative Christian fiction.
I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and DJC Communications in exchange for my honest review of Avenger. Nov 10, Katie Stoops rated it it was amazing. I understand why Mace was chosen to be Nikki's match, but it felt so, so wrong to me. She was so strong and free, something Raven really needed. And Nikki needed Raven because he let her be herself, and knew the real her no matter how she tried to hide it.
Ravens attraction to Dr. Richmond's daughter also maddening to me as a reader. I know she reminded Raven of Nikki, but becomes a bit obsessed even when he has accepted that Jessica is not Nikki. Although all modern readers complain about the I understand why Mace was chosen to be Nikki's match, but it felt so, so wrong to me. Although all modern readers complain about the deaths of main characters, I feel like Nikki should have stayed dead, and watched over the other Halfings as they continued their journey's.
Avenger, book #3 in The Halflings series is her best work to date. Characters Nikki Youngblood, Mace and Raven have a chemistry that draws you in and keeps. www.farmersmarketmusic.com: Avenger (The Halflings Series Book 3) eBook: Heather Burch: Kindle Store.
Not that her revival wasn't touching and powerful The fact that Raven dies as Nikki comes back to life also strikes me as odd, but I loved it. Overall, the books were amazing and I absolutely loved reading them. There were so many twists and turns throughout the story and the unconditional love Raven and Mace both gave Nikki was wonderful. I'm so glad I found this trilogy in the book store the last books in the trilogy left on the shelf: I'm recommending it to everyone who seems to have even a vague love of literature.
The Halfings Trilogy is truly a piece of art. Jul 09, Jenny Rose rated it really liked it. For the most part I enjoyed this series. It is definitely an improvement over the Twilight series as Mace and Raven tended to protect Nikki rather than inflicting harm. There were some good twists throughout the series.
However, I am not a fan of teen romance or Christian romance, so the series got increasingly mushy and sappy to me. It was clean though, so even though I am not a fan of the romance genre I would still recommend it to young adults and up. Beginning as a somewhat awkward and artsy with wide-eyed innocence learning about the spiritual world, to feisty, bring-it-on chick, and then gaining wisdom. Even Raven and Mace changed through the series. While the Halflings look perfect, each one had an Achilles heel.
Being the offspring of full-blooded angels and humans, halflings cannot have salvation, but are judged by their deeds. They still have a choice to make, and a lot more time for deeds and choices as their life-span is longer than humans. They can be injured and killed, but can self-heal. Overall, good writing that kept me turning pages and wanting to finish the trilogy. May 18, Nicole Fowler rated it liked it Shelves: Probably the best of the series but still, that's not saying a whole lot. The beginning was Raven and Nikki just getting shuffled along, being sent from person to person in a way that my attention was really more focused on how fast I could skim a page rather than fully reading it.
Nikki defeats the seeker.
It was supposedly almost impossible to kill but somehow she managed it. She rips Raven's heart out in the cave which did get me emotional cause he was my favorite character and I just do Probably the best of the series but still, that's not saying a whole lot. She rips Raven's heart out in the cave which did get me emotional cause he was my favorite character and I just don't really like Nikki and Mace in the first place. Vegan and Zero are a match.
Zero is taken, Nikki tries to martyr herself, they are both beaten to the brink of death before help comes. Nikki dies but then comes back. Not much with Richmond was really resolved and Damon in still out there but Raven leaves the group after his fake death in the explosions and is like, 'well, I guess I better start my new journey'.
That's not a resolution. That's a piss-poor excuse for a conclusion in my opinion. Oh well, just glad that this series is over Jun 25, Julie rated it it was amazing Shelves: Well, I have one comment that sums up my experience: Avenger was captivating from beginning to end.
There were a couple places where there should've been some commas, but really, who cares about that? But I now know that Raven only brings her sadness and anger and brings her down. I really liked the ending, where Nikki lost her wings to ensure that she wouldn't go over to the darkness. I wish they knew that Raven wasn't dead. I wonder how that'll turn out. Dec 19, Ashley Dawn rated it it was amazing. I loved this book. I eagerly anticipated this book and it did not disappoint! Nikki is back and different. With all she has been through with Vessler, Mace and Raven, she doesn't feel like the same person she once was.
She has chosen Mace, or at least that is what she thinks until Raven shows up and whisks her away. Both of them love her, Vessler needs her and the Throne has plans for her. I like the changes in Nikki. She is strong and sure of herself. Mace is still protective and the leader of t I loved this book. Mace is still protective and the leader of the halfling group. Raven is still a loose cannon and in love with Nikki. I loved all the new characters and seeing all the old ones. I still have questions and I hope the author is going to continue some with these characters!
Great book in this series! Many thanks to the publisher for the review copy of this book via NetGalley. Oct 17, Natalie rated it it was amazing. Such a spectacular story and amazing characters. The story line just sent out one surprise after another. The entire series was so amazing. The first two books made me want to know the rest of the story and the ending was fantastic. But the way the book ended made me think there was going to be more. If my speculations are wrong, I'm okay with that. But, like I said, the story was amazing and there were so many surprises that it wasn't funny.
The characters you meet in Avenger was spectacular. The characters you meet in the book are also very well written. Although some of the characters the book only mentions once or twice they are still very important to the story. Anyway, I hope you like the book as much as I did.
