This quote is not only a useful definition but an essential reminder: You can remind yourself of the power of the speech by watching the clip below:. I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.
The second element of inspiration is necessity: people need to feel both that it is To inspire people, you also have to empower them. There is nothing I should care more to do than to ROUSE the imagination of men and women to a vision of human claims in those races of.
It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.
I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of interposition and nullification; one day right there in Alabama, little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.
I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together. Throughout the speech King mixes metaphor with specific detail, grounding his vision in reality, tethering his balloon to the ground: If you create a detailed, plausible vision of the future, people might be motivated to act to achieve it — but you still have to show them how to get there.
Visions which seem implausible encourage dismissal, not reimagination.
Here is her personal account of the event. The mentoring system provided three major benefits. First, it allowed the new participants to easily become involved in the activities of the seminar. Second, it provided the opportunity for greater reflection on past events by the mentors. The participants were divided into six groups of six to nine members. Each group was assigned at least two mentors.
We all had some background in athletics and we enjoyed sharing our knowledge and ideas but the mentors really helped us to view things from multiple perspectives based on their experiences from the previous year. The highlight of the career planning element was the informative and optimistic presentation by Professor Christine Coupland of Loughborough University.
In her very empowering talk, she helped us all recognize what we have now as well as what we need; how to use our strengths and address our weaknesses in developing a personal action plan for our careers.
Professor Coupland also provided insight and practical methods on how to lead people by creating a positive impression and atmosphere. An important part of this new outlook involves a greater understanding of potential barriers so that we are better able to find solutions to overcome them.
The workshop on inspiring girls and young women to consider not just a career in athletics but also to take on leadership roles was, for me, one of the most meaningful messages.
