Like the A is for Asparagoose Facebook page! I enjoy custom projects of all stripes. From signage, imaging, and organizing, to workshops and websites, I like to see dreams come alive. I revel in the process and bask in the final product. Check out my website and Instagram. I love puzzles, fantasy, and a courageous cause. I like to make grammar jokes and puns, and my heart fills up when children laugh at my antics. The concept for A is for Asparagoose had been floating around as an ongoing in-joke with my partner and Co-Conceptual Prince, Thomas , so we have always had a running list of animal and plant combos.
I even had sketches for some of them. When I upgraded my technology to a tablet in early , I decided to become familiar with the digital paintbrush. As I tested my skills at digital painting, I wanted a fun project to work on as I learned, and I tried drawing an asparagoose. I loved it so much and was hooked—I learned a whole new method of illustration because I practiced it 26 times!
I had so much fun developing, drawing, and learning fun facts about all these silly alphabet characters. Sharing the one copy I have of this book with people and seeing them laugh is a fully satisfying reward. Add the bonus of seeing young kids learn about animals and plants, and I am super happy and gracious.
Now, folks want their own copies of this book! Each page is a a full-color spread for each letter of the alphabet; every letter has a corresponding illustration of a creature built from an animal and plant combination. The hybrids have been selected for their visual impact, as well as how fun or silly it is to read the resulting word.
The left page shows a small image and description fun facts! The descriptions are long enough to put a toddler to sleep, and educational enough to pique the interest of children and adults alike! The book will be a 7" x 7" hardcover printed by PrintNinja with the highest quality ink and paper. The paper will be 85lb. I've chosen real ink offset printing versus digital toner printing, which requires a large quantity order. This will ensure the most vibrant colors and consistency.
There will be 56 pages in the book. I want to stress that I am using the absolute highest quality materials and printer that I could find for children's books. Although I am initially self-publishing, I want there to be absolutely no difference in quality between my book and those created by high end publishers.
