I cried as much as I did in 27 Truths but in this book, it was more of a cleansing cry. In book 1 I hated, and I mean hated Luke. What he did to Ava was beyond the pale but there was more to Luke than met the eyes and his story , his and Ava is told from his eyes in this book. In this book, I read how Luke had to face where his actions pushed Ava away.

He was tormented over how he had treated Ava in the past and how his treatment caused her to leave and go to Trent. Now, now things are different. She is barely hanging on as it is. There is this huge secret that she is keeping from Luke and it is tearing her up inside. Oh my heart broke for all involved at this point. There were lies told by all , but they were protecting themselves from more heartbreak. This is their way back to each other , one broken step at a time. Luke Lane is a broken man. He lost the only girl to ever really love him and then he lost his career after a mission turned deadly.
Because if the hushed rumors are true, he has a brand new reason to live. Ava Links feels dead inside. She stays isolated from the world in the Brooklyn loft that once held so much happiness and prays that her secret is never revealed. But Ava refuses him at every turn.
How do I even begin to describe all of the things that this book made me feel? I should start by saying that I am and will always be a devoted fan of Thomas Hardy. I was absolutely right. MJ Fields fashioned delicate knives from her words and then she aimed them right at my heart. And in the end, the hurt was temporarily soothed by sweet Piper and her messages for Ava. Those that do tend to stick with me for quite a while. The characters of Ava and Luke are written so well that I felt like I was standing on the outside watching them like they were real life. While I understand how he might feel the way he did about the entire course of events, I sometimes had difficulty understanding why he was so angry about it.
Because this was such a complicated story I feel it was correct for the author to split it into two books from the point of view of both main characters.

Deep Extraction by Diann Mills Rating: Although I have met Diann Mills before and know she attends my church as well, I had not had the opportunity to read one of her books before this story was offered to me for review.
I was very impressed with the depth of her writing and will certainly be looking to read more of her past and future works. And choosing that particular culprit meant that Ms. Mills could spend the majority of the book telling the rest of the characters stories without revealing him before the end.

She began with an oil mogul whose pacemaker was hacked remotely causing immediate heart failure. Add to this the bombing of one of his oil rigs days before, his out-of-the-blue request for divorce from his wife, condemning evidence of an affair with his administrative assistant and his recent purchase of oil rigs overseas and Ms. But manage she did, exceeding my expectations by not only answering all my questions but giving such total answers that I felt I had been the one investigating the case.
I always enjoy a book that also employs a faith journey for one of the main characters, so Ms. Mills thoroughly answered that desire for proof by having her involved in a major fire fight that Tori and US Marshall Cole Jeffers should not have walked away from.
Cole had challenged her to test God and is very pleased when she finds Him to be as trustworthy as he has found Him to be in his life. I truly enjoyed reading this story as if I was walking beside Tori and Cole every day of this case.
