They are bonded to the creatures. As soon as KJ sees them, he too bonded with one of them. That made the book heartwarming, but still, lots of things do happen. Freya is afraid, that she might lose him, but in the end, she is helping the creatures to escape from the clutches of the government.

I loved already book one, and i love that one. Enjoyed it very much. Loved K'in from the first book, the gentle alien, or was it an alien? It was so different from all the other sci-fi books I have read. Sci-fi in it's best. Suffice it to say Freya is the female version of Kelly. The sparks definitely fly between Freya and Kelly as they navigate an emotional push-me-pull-you while they traverse the globe on an extraordinary adventure.

So, as I said there are some really interesting characters to sink your teeth into. I found the tempo of this story kept me feverishly turning the pages, anxious to see what would happen next. So I did something I rarely force myself to do when reading Not because I was afraid I might miss something; I simply wanted to make the story last longer.

I was blubbering fool at one point. What more could I ask for in a book? This story is action packed, beautifully written and easy to get into. But the bonus for me was this, by the end I felt as though the author had related a profound story that I think we can all relate to So, would I recommend this book?

Oct 20, Frankie Brazelton rated it it was amazing Shelves: Bloggers receive all sorts of books to review from publishers and indie authors. A vast number of those have a strong premise but often lack the editing and polishing that elevate a book to a five star status. And of course there is a never ending supply of mediocre duds.

I did still enjoy the book and would recommend it. Transfixed by the journey through stunning human mythology, and complex characters which became eerily familiar, the storytelling nails science fiction at it's most crucial crossover into suspenseful thriller. Every once in a while a treasure falls into our lap. What enthralled me most about the plot was how it was formulated on many of the ideas and hypotheses that are quite popular on the interwebs these days in the fringe groups of researchers that are speaking out against the rigid academic community. In particular the ideas, not necessarily credited to but supported by, researcher Graham Hancock, leapt off the page immediately.

He showed incredible consideration for a multitude of religious and cultural viewpoints and handled each tactfully, offering up possible historical theories without bashing or antagonizing those with opposing views. The only little morsels of this book I take issue with are the all too convenient acquaintances our main characters always happen to be able to turn to in time of dire need. They were too outrageous and too often readily available. But then again, this is a sci-fi book, so a stretch of the imagination is often required.

I was happy to flex my imagination, revisit some ancient civilization lore, and pretend to follow along with the science of this thrilling novel.

Jul 25, Andrew O'Donnell rated it it was amazing. A fast paced, action packed thriller interweaved cleverly with popular scientific theories. No spoilers in this review The story follows the accidental adventures of Kelly Graham, a self-assured man with a broken past that leads him to risk his life at every opportunity. Kelly is a Molotov cocktail of a man who runs head first toward danger throughout the book, keeping the action coming think and fast. With current and ancient superpower, all crossing each other paths trying to solve an amazing puzzle of an advanced, powerful and ancient creature. The conspiracy theories, twist and turns come thick and fast with an amazing world tour of locations. The book is cleverly writing to keep many players and themes running alongside each other. I am happy with the authors use of movie screenplay style for this book. Sometimes I feel we may be lacking some depth and details, but this writing style keeps the book ticking over without getting bogged down in details.

Editorial Reviews

The ending leaves me with some many questions, wanting more which is both frustrating and exciting. We will see a follow up only the author will know, but I would be happy to buy it. Although this book can remain a standalone, I feel more adventures and answers are still to come. The main baddie who slowly worms his way out of the woodwork behind all the cloak and daggers is very scary and horrific person, I loved him.

From Black Land To Fifth Sun : Brian Fagan :

No softie to be messed with. Jul 22, Kay Smillie rated it it was amazing. It's not often that I come across a main character in a book who has particular traits that gets on my bits. Kelly Graham is that character. A selfish, egotistic man. However, he is good at what he does. Ain't that usually the way? Once I ignored what niggled me and actually got into the story, I was hooked. It's different from the usual stuff and it's obviously been very well researched. I maintain that Kelly's character became more 'human' after bonding with a certain animal.

Having said that, It's not often that I come across a main character in a book who has particular traits that gets on my bits. Having said that, I fell in love with the same animal very easily, and I'm sure other readers will too. Kelly does 'evolve' into a more rounded, likeable character, and even Freya sees his good traits that were VERY well hidden previously. I defy anyone not to have tears in their eyes at certain parts of the book, particularly the end.

However much I did not want this story to end, I was gutted when it did. I sincerely hope that Dr Worthington has more stories to tell us.

Children of the Fifth Sun

Excellent concept, great story, well written, and both heartwarming and heartbreaking. You'll see what I mean. Once you pick this up, you'll struggle to put it down. I loved, loved, loved this so much. A whirlwind of adventure, authenticity, action, and imagination. Did I mention that I loved it? Jul 25, Stu rated it it was amazing. In Children of the Fifth Sun, Gareth Worthington has succeeded in doing something few authors are able to accomplish: The telling of a deeply personal story that lingers with the reader long after the final page has been turned.

Yes, it's a fun, fast-paced, globe trotting, adventure. Yes, the author has incorporated literally 20 years of scientific research and development into building and shaping this story. Interesting storyline I found the book to be fairly well edited, just a couple of word errors such as the word knew when it should have been know.

The storyline was different than what I have read before. I found that it moved along at a pretty good pace. I didn't find myself skipping paragraphs to get past any overly wordy descriptions yet it felt complete. I have bought the next book in the series to see where it goes next. It is a complete book with no storyline left hanging.

Aug 04, Laura French rated it really liked it. In the tradition of Michael Crichton, Children of the Fifth Sun, is firmly rooted in science with the fantastical elements of sci-fi. It read well, kept my attention and sounded somewhat plausible. It was a really well written novel. There were moments where I thought he could have ended the story but then found another interesting way to bring the story back.
