Book one wasn't doing it for me. Then book two started I thoroughly enjoyed Annabelle Blaze's story. The ending was unexpected! All in all, if you can get pass the first book, the story is actually decent. Feb 13, Keke Chanel rated it it was amazing. All I can say is wow! Never saw it coming or would have guessed what Treasure Blue had in store. Fly Betty was more than I expected Feb 12, Jessica Goodman rated it it was amazing Shelves: Not the typical Urban Fiction story. This is my first book by Treasure but will not be my last. There are two stories before this one, however, I was able to follow along with out reading them.
I read this book in about four hours. Feb 10, Yvonne Rivers rated it really liked it. One of the best books Ive read this year. I didn't see that twist coming at all. Will definitely read more from Treasure Blue. Dec 04, Kim BookJunkie rated it liked it Shelves: However, while reading non-dialogue portions of the book, Pimentel consistently spoke in a very, very choppy manner. And exited the building. I picked this up on audio book and I think that's why I couldn't continue with it. Another reason is the back story of the main characters mom. I wish it wasn't so long, I wanted to get back to Betty, but I ended up stopping before part 2 was finished.
I may pick it up in regular book form later. Feb 14, Dawn rated it did not like it. I can't even finish this book. It drags on and comes off as a "how to" book as opposed to one with a real storyline. Definitely will not try more in this series. Mar 01, Shanta Shaw rated it really liked it. Fly Betty is the first but will not be the last book that I've read by Treasure Blue.
I was very please with his work and enjoy this book to the fullest. When I first started to read this book I really wanted to put it down and just give up, but the more I read the better the book got. I think the rules could have been left out because I did not see the connection to the story, but there was a connection I just didn't notice one. I also thought that book 2 should have been first and it would have Fly Betty is the first but will not be the last book that I've read by Treasure Blue. I also thought that book 2 should have been first and it would have flowed a lot better for me, and that's the reason I gave this book 4 stars.
I was on and adrenaline high with this book I had gotten to the point to were I could NOT put the book down. I was tired but refused to put it down I just had to finish it because the suspense was killing me and I just had to know what was going to happen. I really really enjoyed this book just when I thought I knew the ending something else would happen and I was like damn really. While reading this story at times my heart would race and my temperture would rise because things were getting extremely exciting and I could not believe some of things that were taking place. At the end day Fly Betty came off on top and thats all that truly mattered to me.
Good job Treasure Blue good job. Jun 13, Avonlea Rose rated it did not like it Shelves: Cool rough draft, but this is not print-quality work. It's a shame that nobody saw the value in editing and revising this work.
Run-on sentences, misused words, and redundancies are among a few of its issues. There are greater problems with the choice of narrative and awkward time-hopping. The female perspective feels inaunthentic and cliche. It reads as what men think of women, not as a genuine feminine voice. The story of Fly Betty's mother is more interesting and better developed than the pro Cool rough draft, but this is not print-quality work.
The story of Fly Betty's mother is more interesting and better developed than the protagonist's, which is a mistake. There were also issues with phony dialogue and embarrassingly clumsy sex scenes.
I was completely flabbergasted! I was on and adrenaline high with this book I had gotten to the point to were I could NOT put the book down. It drags on and comes off as a "how to" book as opposed to one with a real storyline. Needless to say, both of their relationships end badly. If you've never had the pleasure of reading one of Treasure Blue's many books, I employ you to try this.
You never use words like "moist" or "saluting" to describe anatomy, and, sorry, but pussy juices don't explode onto carpets. The author also makes the mistake of representing himself in the book. At first, I wasn't sure if this was Cash Money's doing by forcing contracted authors to rep their label in the novels, but the direct reference to himself is worse. Either way, it's tacky and a definite no-no. In summary, there are some cool ideas here, but this is a very under-developed work that wasn't given the time and effort it would need to shine.
Apr 20, Mel rated it liked it. I am a fan of Treasure Blues I didn't enjoy this book as much as his others but, I did enjoy it. I ignored the typos but must admit I was a little confused when they were talking about Scars ex wife. He originally said her name was Porsche. Then they were calling her "Hollywood Gene"? I liked the plot twist at the end but It didn't seem plausible that the same woman who threatened her professor with a sex assault charge would faint at the sight of her boyfriend involved in a sexual act.
No I am a fan of Treasure Blues The rules all throughout the book were necessary for the plot line and some were very true to life but, annoyed me for some reason. I think my favorite part wasn't even reading about Betty but, reading about her mother and how she wound up where she did.
I think killing her best friend Fabian was a stretch. Especially because the person who did it while I understand was trying to hurt Betty as badly as he could seemed like the most unlikely. He threw a red herring to steer us into thinking it was Scar or one of his people. Clever but, the person who did it didn't play such a huge part in the book anyway. I did like the incorporation of a character from another book of his.
Still looking forward to the next. Jun 23, Pamela rated it really liked it. Black Betty, named because of her "black heart", is a stripper and prostitute. Fly Betty, named because she's pretty, dresses well and knows about the streets, is a college student who, through mind games and manipulation, has rich athletes and rappers give her money and jewelry. Fly Betty ends these relationships after 90 days until she runs into a rapper who doesn't fall for her manipulation. Like mother, like daughter, both have relationships with men who they thought cared for them, but really didn't.
Needless to say, both of their relationships end badly. Fly Betty was an audiobook, so I can't comment about grammar or editing. I didn't understand why the author changed the name of one of the characters from Porsche to Hollywood Jean. I thoroughly enjoyed this book except for the part about genital mutilation which horrified me. The plot kept me involved until the end. Mar 24, D. Cole rated it it was amazing.
I have read plenty of novels but this was not only entertaining but educational. Young women and men should read it. This book shows how you can start off with a sure fire plan and it can spiral out of control. Which everyone should be taught. I am also loving this story because it's from a woman's perspective. All though the book highlights women, it wouldn't be nothing without a man. How a men can completely change the path of a good woman.
How no matter how strong you are love will make you s I have read plenty of novels but this was not only entertaining but educational. How no matter how strong you are love will make you see the same story and miss all the signs of failure. I can go on and on about this book, but you need to go buy your own. So you can get the full Fly Betty experience. I have teenage girls and they will be reading this book. Apr 11, Loretta rated it it was amazing.
In Harlem, there is a code of the streets one must learn. Annabelle Blaise aka Fly Betty, learned what to do and how to do it--quickly. With a challenging life to live, Fly Betty as the streets knew her, did what she had to do to survive, even if it meant going against her biggest rivals. Drawn into a world of sex to manage her addiction to heroin, there was a silver lining laid Treasure Blue has mastered the craft of storytelling.
Weaving an intricate timeline that span In Harlem, there is a code of the streets one must learn.
Weaving an intricate timeline that spans over years with his characters, Blue exposes the reader to a lifestyle some would cringe at. However, he brings suspense, mystery and smart plot-twists to the forefront with Betty Blaise, the main character in this riveting novel. One has to open their mind to the style of what Blue offers, which is entertaining and often times touching, making the reader think as they endure the journey.
Say what you want about Urban Fiction, Treasure Blue has his hand all over the scanner, and I doubt the let up will be anytime soon. Walls Author of "The Majestic Dynasty" Feb 20, Camille-Sherry rated it it was amazing. Annabella gives her daughter the name Fly Betty, meaning: A girl or woman, as knowledgeable in the streets as she is intelligent and has that look and attitude that every woman wants.
Betty is working on her PhD in the field of psychology with plans to graduate cum laude. She lives by strict rules when it comes to self and male relationships. The book is well written, developed, soars and maintains steam throughout. There is drama, rage and an emotionally charge scene that will bring you to your knees shedding tears. The author continues to impress me when it comes to providing details of Harlem and its residents. Kudos for author Treasure Blue!!!!! Feb 13, Athena rated it really liked it. Fly Betty was a great read and I would recommend it. Although the story centered around Betty Blaise, I didnt find myself connecting with her in any way.
She told an interesting story but I think that her mother really made the book. I enjoyed reading about how Betty's mother's life turned out and I felt myself thinking that the book was solely centered around her at times. I wanted to fall in love with Scar but something kept telling me that there was a lot of backstory behind his mysterious pe Fly Betty was a great read and I would recommend it. I wanted to fall in love with Scar but something kept telling me that there was a lot of backstory behind his mysterious persona.
He was like the dude that your family and friends warn you about yet you couldn't resist him, definitely trouble. Treasure did an awesome job telling this story ad keeping the reader interested but I could have done without all of the YMCMB references. The unexpected twisted ending shocked the heck out of me but I was left being confused by it. Jul 14, Mserika rated it it was amazing. I damn near had a heart attack! Let me tell you something Mr. Blue, upon my completion of reading this book, Fly Betty, which by the way, was my first full Treasure Blue novel, left me sitting for at least 15 minuets in pure silence after I was through.
I was completely flabbergasted!
Wow, is all I can really say! It was truly brilliant! I wonder now why it took me so long to read it! Her character touched me in ways I can't describe. Made me think of stories my aunt use to tell me about herself when she was young and running the streets. I remember one time she sat me down and showed me how to use a little box razor!
This book told a story, but for me, it went deeper because there were poignant lessons that any woman could learn from. You know I read the reviews and saw some people didn't like it, but you know to each his own. Now that's taking it all the way there! Probably why my ass is still single!!!
Don't Fall in Love. Some Spoilers Betty Blaise has it all: Not one to sell her soul for a trinket or two. Betty doesn't have to use what she has, to get what she wants. Anything she has "hustled" out of a man, she does so persuasively with her mind and not her body. She's been taught that giving herself to a man would be tragic. When she comes across the talented, gangster rapper extraordinaire, Scar the Hyena, Betty's entire world is shaken. Betty's best friend, Fabian, doesn't agree with Betty's relationship with Scar. Yet, Betty and Scar are immediately smitten with each other. Neither have experienced "true" love due to their muddled childhoods.
Shortly after Scar's status heightens, Betty and Scar's relationship begins to sour. The reasoning for Scar's sudden change of heart will blow your mind. I applaud Treasure E. Blue for yet another satisfactory illustrated portrait of inner-city drama. Jose - I simply have to root for the underdog Least Favorite Character: Rico - conniving, evil junkie Favorite scene: Fly Betty's encounter with Sebastian If there was one thing you could intensify OR modify in the storyline, what would it be?
One person found this helpful. I enjoyed the story itself quite a bit. There were a few issues I couldn't get past however. For this price I can accept one or two minor editing errors but not numerous blatant errors. For a well known author and even more well known publishing company the quality of editing was unacceptable.
CMC's own Harlem-bred literary giant Treasure Blue, brings you Fly Betty, the third installment in the acclaimed Harlem Girl Lost series. In the multi-billion dollar. Editorial Reviews. Review. ''Treasure is back once again, bringing you the good, the bad, and the often ugly consequences that come with using what you got to.
Second, what was with all the name dropping? What was even more pathetic is that the author constantly name dropped his OWN name! Without the editing issues and name dropping I would have given 5 starts, but these bothered me so much it truly ruined what should have been an enjoyable reading experience. See all reviews.
