Paying the Price is the third installment of my Sugah Series. It picks up where Naughty or Nice Book 2 left off. I began the series on my blog a few years ago as a short story to entertain my readers. After receiving lots of great feedback, I decided to turn the short story into a series. Paying the Price, tells how the main character Sugah Payne is coming into her own, piecing together the missing fragments from her childhood. Sugah has joined an organization of mysterious young professionals and falls for the leader of the group.
Lies and betrayal stir up hidden secrets Sugah wanted to keep from her life, but may be the only way to save her in the end. I will say this though, Paying the Price, is a rollercoaster ride of emotions that will leave you speechless once truths are revealed. The fourth and final installment to the Sugah Series is being written as we speak.
All unanswered questions from each book will be answered in this book. Where do your ideas come from? Do you have a standard formula for plots or do stories come to you as a whole concept? I have always had a vivid imagination. My mind never turns off. So, stories just sort of come to me. I can be sleeping, and a story plot will wake me up.
Character development is my favorite part of the writing process. I love creating characters my audience will love, hate, or are undecided about.
I like readers to try to figure things out but are taken by surprise each time. I just go with the flow. I let the story guide me to where it wants to go. I am stunned at times myself. I have to make sure Susie still has the brown hair mentioned in chapter two, in chapter fifteen.
Writing down tidbits helps my stories flow better, and keep them authentic. What is different and exciting that you bring to your readers through your suspenseful writing? The difference I bring to my readers through my writing is the element of surprise. I like to include several surprises in each chapter to draw readers in more and more with each page. I also like including witty dialogue between my characters.
Making readers laugh, warms my heart. I infuse real life issues into my stories, as well. People like reading about things they can relate to in some way. I love hearing how my characters affect readers when I do readings, events or run into one of them at the movies or coffee shop. And, there is always a message in my books that readers can take with them.
I wanted there to be a love-hate relationship between the characters in the story and my readers. No character can be trusted, they all have secrets even the character everyone loves. I wanted Paying the Price to be a story of redemption, life after pain. I did answer questions from Naughty or Nice Book 2. In Paying the Price. There are a few scenes in the book I found challenging, like when Sugah and her mother become estranged, and how a loyal friendship is betrayed.
I look at each situation as life happens. Not every day is peachy keen. Relationships are important to me, so when given the opportunity to tarnish them in a book, it presents itself to bring people closer together. So, I go for it.
It helps them get to know the writer personally, even when they have never met. Writing a great story needs some element of transparency.
People tend to support what they feel a level of connection to—whether it is a book or a piece of clothing. Did you have to do any special research to write this book?
