The surreal feeling of driving past a sea level sign half way up a mountain. Carrying on driving to feet below sea level. And then being in the Dead Sea floating completely unaided. I think it is rare to find somewhere so unspoilt and spectacular. The utter relaxation that comes from three days one mile off the Maine coast.
Mr P was between jobs and we chose to totally escape for a few days.
Just us on an island, in a lighthouse, with degree views of the sea and the sky. Being mesmerised by the rolling in and out of the clouds at m at the top of Pico Ruivo in Madeira. Half way up we were in thick cloud and then we popped out into a garden in the sky. Getting to grips with the insane remoteness of being deep in the Empty Quarter desert as the sun sets.
Not a sound, just the constant moving of the sand on the wind and the stunning colours as the light faded. Particularly sharing childhood Cornwall and Norfolk adventures with Mr P.
Apart from that one of his favourites was actually our first holiday. Funny how different people remember things differently!
What fascinates me is that in all the time and money! Save Save Save Save. Two of your once in a lifetime moments are ones I have on my bucket list — Table Mountain and Dead Sea! I can camp with the best of them too, actually some of my best nights sleep actually!! On a frosty morning here in the UK, your travel memories and photos provided a fantastic opportunity to escape!
So frosty, I thought spring was here when we saw all the daffodils in cornwall, but apparently not!! I agree sometimes those quiet moments mean so much more than the big wow moments!
I think you could be a travel planner — at least for me — because I think we share the idea of a perfect vacation! Experiencing new cultures, getting outside, staying somewhere unique… I loved reading your list — and seeing where that adorable adirondack chair photo originated from! The lighthouse stay off the coast of Maine was just incredible!! I love desert scapes. I truly thought I would be bored in the desert, but I could watch the sand all day just like being by the sea! The hotel was pretty incredible too, it really was worth finding somewhere 3 hours drive from anywhere as it was real desert rather than something on the edge of the city.

The hotel room was very nice as were all of the included meals. Seeing a sunset and a sunrise in the Sahara Desert is something that everyone should experience. My experience with Marrakech Desert Trip is one that I would absolutely recommend. To begin with, conversations with Abdessamad was very easy and he accommodated all my requests.
I had a lot of questions and qualms prior to the trip but he made sure that we will have the best experience. Our driver Muhammad was a good one. He was trying to make conversations, teaching us about their culture and he tried to make possible our requests picture stops and more. He was very clean with the car, I saw him constantly wiping off the dust and everything.
He made good lunch stops and recommended great food. He answered most of our questions. I noticed that he tried to bring us to stops away from the crowds which we wanted. They were excellent stops and he took us there in good timing. Really, this was one of the best hassle free tours! Must book with them We stayed in auberge panorama and bouchedor both were beyond excellent.
Our trip to Sahara Desert was memorable, this company made it worth the drive. It was such a pleasant experience. On the morning of the first day, someone came to my riad right near Djeema El Fna to get me, and by van we went to a meeting spot a short distance away where other travelers were congregating. The mini-buses there were tours for other places as well so it doesn't hurt to ask a few times whether you are on the right one. While most buses were seaters, my trip was in a van with 5 others in our group. The hotel the first night wasn't very good, but I wasn't expecting much.
The second day we visited Todra Gorge and had a great lunch of madfouna in Rissani before arriving in Merzouga and our camel ride into the desert. The camels, Sahara, camp, etc. The camel ride to camp was 2 hours with a short break in between - the sunrise ride back took 1.
Last day is essentially the long journey back to Marrakech - we got back around 6: Since half my group was heading to Fes, the 3 of us left joined another group and thus our ride back was in the 17 person minibus and not the van we took previously. It was a fantastic experience; the others in my group were great which made the trip even better. I booked this tour just to ride with camels in Sahara. Would have never expected that these 3 days are becoming my best days in Morocco.
Firstly I was so lucky to have such an amazing group of people from different countries, secondly beside camel riding we visited so many beautiful places on the road from Marrakech to Merzouga- all these riding through mountains, seeing where famous movies like Gladiator was made, discovering how real locals are living, having nice dinners with drum music, walking between canyons. Got so many good photos and memories. Camel riding, dance night with African music and sleeping under the stars- just amazing!
And of course biggest thanks are going to the best bus driver- Jamal, without him we wouldn't have been such an happy family. He told us so many good stories, played so good local music in a bus and was just a really good guide. I recommend this tour to everybody! Thank You so much! Highly suggest this for anyone looking to experience the desert, berber life, a great party, and amazing time! Own or manage this property?
