Remember that it is strictly forbidden to make fires directly on the rocks! This is a fragile place, which is difficult to reach, but I hope that more people will be able to enjoy it in the future. The lighthouse was decommissioned in because of blowing sand, which more or less covered it, rendering it invisible from the water. Before it was turned off, it served as a beacon in one of the most dangerous waters surrounding Denmark—Jammerbugten The Bay Denmark. Today, large parts of the structure are completely covered in sand, but you can still access the tower and see the amazing view from the top.

The area around the lighthouse is no less impressive, and it resembles a desert.

The blowing sand makes it impossible for plants to gain a foothold, so there is nothing but sand here. Steep slopes descend 60 meters down from the top of the dunes to the sea, and you must tread with care here. On stormy days, the sand will penetrate clothes, and the wind will be almost impossible to move through. Do not let that stop you, because this is an incredible experience in itself. Rubjerg Knude is the ultimate place to experience the rough character of the western coast of Denmark.

The path to Rubjerg Knude is simple. But the longer you venture into the area, the more challenging it gets. You park at Fyrvejen and move along the gravel path leading to the lighthouse in the distance. Once you reach the dunes, you can choose to approach the tower or go around the dunes towards the water. The entire area is littered with trails. If you have a 4x4 vehicle, driving on the long beaches is no problem. You need to cross a couple of small streams on your way, but the beach is wide and good for driving.

When you can go no further, you can park the car and proceed on foot. If you take a long walk, you can reach the aforementioned lighthouse at Rubjerg Knude. Several World War II bunkers are peppered along the route. These are some of the biggest and most well-preserved bunkers along the western coast, and this is a great place to hang out, snap pictures and camp during the day. You can go down to the beach on the slope by Northshore Surfshop , which is located at the end of the road. Simply drive onto the beach and take a right, and then go wherever you like!

Please note that there are other roads leading to the beach, but there are rocks that make it impossible to go north on these. Enjoy the elements at their fullest. A perfect location for windy and stormy days. This is truly a stunning place with its great height and beautiful beach areas. You can either climb down to the beach or take the small path at the top of the cliffs to the very edge. From there it drops 20 meters into the North Sea where you got a fantastic view over the sea, the distant beaches and national park. You can go all the way by car to Bulbjerg.

A solid reminder of a different time. An area filled with bunkers from the Second World War. From here you can explore the coastline and find great surf spots. These abandoned concrete fortresses are now empty shelters fighting the rough conditions around here. Not many people know about this bunker, you will have to explore along the beach to find it. If you come from Bulbjerg you will either have to drive into the mainland and take the bridge crossing the Limfjord or you can stay on the coast and cross the fjord by a little old ferry.

A great area for fishing and canoe trips.

Road transport

The whole area is very beautiful and a great destination for lovers of the outdoors. The best way to explore the area is by canoe or kayak, as you then can explore the system of small rivers and creeks, as well as head out on the shallow waters on the fjord. It is possible to rent canoes or bring your own, but you will have to buy a pass.

This is a great place to enjoy the sunset over the fjord, which can become still like a mirror on a calm summer evening. Loen is located in the Norwegian fjords. To get there you need a car or take the bus. Take road E6 to Lillehammar and continue. Turn left on road 15 in Otta and then left again in Stryn. The drive goes by the water and between the mountains and are so beautiful.

The Via Ferrata is located on Mount Hoven meter. It starts with a 2 hours hike up the mountain and then you continue to the top with the Via Ferrata.

The view is amazing up here! This is the perfect Norwegian hike! When you reach the summit, the sensation will blow you away. I highly recommend taking a walk under the midnight sun, when the sky perfectly matches the colors of the mountains, the clouds and the water in the fjords, and everything comes together.

You take in the scenery as the sun kisses the horizon and all the clouds dance in unison around the surrounding peaks. It is also a fantastic hike during the bright winter hours, when the snow creates fantastic contrasts in the landscape. Segla is a mountain on the Norwegian island of Senja, rising meters above sea level. Senja is located a short distance north of Lofoten, and this is an absolute must on your bucket list. This place is not overrun by tourists like Lofoten is. Many paths and roads are still almost unexplored, and I feel that this adds an extra element to the adventure.

There is also another major bonus. Along the Senja road, which is a long road that encircles the entire island and passes by all of its fjords and mountains, you get many incredible photo opportunities.

A sign behind the school shows the hiking trail to Segla. Just follow the trail for about 15 minutes until you reach a fork, and then take the path on the right. You will reach another sign. The hike takes between 3 and 5 hours, depending on how often you stop to snap pictures.

The first half of the trip is simple and perhaps a little boring in comparison with the rest of the trail. But trust me, it's all worth it. After about an hour you will pass 'over the edge', revealing a vista of the fjord and the sea on the other side. It is truly breathtaking! At this point, you're halfway to the summit. The last part of the hike is more demanding, and you will need to use your hands to climb the rocks. This might sound intimidating, but there is no need to worry. The climb is never steep enough to make you feel in danger of falling down. Once you've reached the top about an hour later, the experience will make you forget all of your struggles.
