Bitter Blood (The Morganville Vampires Book 13)

It was the same old rubbish: Claire moaned about something or other. There was a new threat of some sort. Eve and Claire fangirled over Michael's fit body and beautiful face. Michael brooded about being a vampire. Amelie acted like a bitch. Oliver acted like a bitch. Shane bitched about the vampires and his twagic life. Myrnin acted crazy and wore silly clothes.

There was a misunderstanding or two. Micha Spoilers Like the last few books in the series, the plot was dull and uninspired. The gang faced the bad guys and against all odds, won. Claire In the last few books, I found Claire really boring and sadly she still bored the hell out of me. I hate how dumb she seems to have gotten, in the first few books, she came across as smart, resilient and funny and now she's a Mary Sue and all she cares about are her boys - Shane, Michael and Myrnin.

Its like she's forgotten about her dreams and education — it's all about vampires and Shane.. I did love that Claire didn't forgive Shane after he treated her like shit but I'm sure she'll let me down in the next book when she's all over him again. Shane Shane started off decent enough but he's turned into a mega whiny bitch-bastard-douche.

Most of the time he's either emo or angry. His treatment of Claire pissed me off — he was probably happy that Michael kissed Claire because it gave him the perfect excuse to treat her like crap — he's one of those guys that like being a dick to their girlfriend… they get off on it. Michael Good god — he's dull.. I also like blood blah blah blah.. Eve Eve used to be a great character, now she's an idiot that cries all the time and only cares about Michael and her wuv life. Monica It says a lot about a series when the most likeable character used to be bully and is presently still a bitch.

It's funny that Monica has more chemistry with Shane than Claire does, I wouldn't mind Shane and Monica getting together. Miranda Miranda's an okay character, I just wish she wasn't so desperate for Claire and co's acceptance and approval. I hated the way Michael treated her, he was a fucker! He should have empathized with her situation but instead he thought he was the only one with problems, and he made her feel so bad that she wanted to kill herself!

And then on top of that, Michael and co didn't even feel guilty about what they did to her! I hate how the core 4 act like they're the good guys, they judge everyone else's behaviour and are all preachy but they don't look at themselves and see that they only ever do what's best for the four of them. Morganville vampires I hate all the vampires bar Myrnin — they're all so unlikable and cartoonish. The perfect ending would be if they all died. I'm really hoping Claire invents a machine to kill them all. Random thoughts -The different POV's and the shifts from 3rd person to 1st person was irritating.

I've come this far, so I'm going to stick it out until the bitter end. I'm hoping that Claire stops being such a dull goody goody and becomes more interesting, I don't think there's any hope for Michael, Shane and Eve. Actually, I wouldn't mind if Claire just died and Monica became the protagonist — that would definitely make for more exciting reading. Mar 15, Taschima rated it really liked it.

How can I possibly explain how utterly awesome this book was? It was so nice getting to once again re visit these great characters Bitter Blood was pretty much Morganville on How can I possibly explain how utterly awesome this book was?

Bitter Blood (The Morganville Vampires, #13) by Rachel Caine

Bitter Blood was pretty much Morganville on a whole new level. She basically created the father of all bad assness Bishop well, two fathers of bad assness if you count Frank Collins and had him take over the entire town in about books. She also created a whole new set of mythological creatures that made us all re think the idea of taking a nice shower as much as the next vampire the Draug for the last couple of books, so what can she possibly come up with next to keep our gang on their toes?

And on book thirteen nonetheless? Well, nothing fancy really, she just sparked the flame of the town from the inside and watched it burn I am amazed at how alive this series still is. Being on book thirteen and still being able to keep your readers interested and at the edge of their seats isn't a small feat, but Morganville is different and if it manages to capture your attention in the first few books, well, then you are going to be ensnared in it's pages till the very end. I know I still am!

With every book new things are brought into the mix, like different POVs for example, that just make the story grow and evolve, develop into something bigger than itself and way better than most series floating around. But I'm rambling here so I am just going to tell you some of my favorite parts without spoiling. One was of course Myrnin, whole lot of Myrnin! Yes, we finally get what we have ALL been waiting for, we get to be inside Myrnin's mind, and it doesn't disappoint.

Claire, she has grown up so much. I mean the scared innocent girl first introduced in Glass House is now a strong, smart, determined woman who can take care of herself plus bring good into the town. And she specially does something in this book that just earned her buckets of respect from my part view spoiler [ Shane of course is an a hole so he doesn't trust her again, believing she cheated on him, and once he, of course, finds out she in fact DIDN'T he asks for forgiveness Girl I love you!

Thank goodness, if she had forgiven him I don't think I could have ever forgiven her, it was really a turning point hide spoiler ]. Also Eve and Michael's marriage plays a huge roll in this book, specially since nobody seems to be on their team. The story evolves and keeps you entertained, Bitter Blood is definitely not a filler, and by the end some things happen that make the prospect of the NEXT book all that much more interesting.

I wonder what she author will do, jump forward in time? By a lot, or a little? And I definitely believe Eve is getting turned into a vampire, it just has to happen. Other than Shane still kicking it up nothing really. He just manages to piss me off in every single book. Though he manages to redeem himself a tiny bit I still dislike him for being untrustworthy and fickle. Alas though, he is the main character's love interest so c'est la vie. So worth it because of everything. It's a good book for Morganville fans out there. The series still has plenty of juice left. I can't believe there is only 2 more books left The vampires in Morganville are pissing me off.

Amelie owes them that much. View all 21 comments. May 31, Becca added it. I like it, I love it, i want some more of it!!!! I think how Rachel Caine plots this series could go on forever, it's just fantastic. Even though the plots may be repetitive but to me the character growth is just wonderful and how most of us seem sort of connected to the characters in some way view spoiler [..

Also Eve,Claire,Shane, and Micheal are just a wonderful team and are all very different from each other but that's why they make such a great team. But you can't hang on to a good story forever so the series has to end sometime. These are just my opinions on why this series could last a long time though. I am sooo excited for this book!! Great read, I think it's one of the best books of the series cause the characters have grown soo much over the books.

I gotta say though I think I just love myrnin even more after I read the part where view spoiler [.. I can't wait till the next book and see where it's going. Oct 07, Nidah SleepDreamWrite rated it liked it. This is one of those books that I had started reading, then just started losing interest. So I take a little break from it. Okay a long break from it.

Finally, finally I get around to getting back to book series I really should catch up or finish. Morganville Vampires series is one of those. So I read where I left off. Apparently I was halfway into the book when I last read it. This was one of my favorite vampire series. But it happens with long book series, that you start to not love it as much. Then once you take a break from it, you come back to it and are reminded why you loved reading said book series in the first place.

For me its not only the pace, the writing style but the characters. Honestly he makes this book for me. Giving it a 3. Glad we got a Myrnin POV chapter this time. Oh and the story does pick up so its nice to see Claire and co try to solve another predicament for the town. Still a good installment but not as good as some of the other books in the series so far. Oct 23, Amy Jacobs rated it it was amazing Shelves: Oh Morganville, how I have missed you. This series is addictive and never fails at nonstop action and adventure. Please forgive me for being so vague in this review, but if I were to say to much it would give away so much of the story.

We can't have all the secrets spilled like blood in one review! Bitter Blood is again told from multiple POV's from all our favorite characters. The one that excited me the most was Myrnin though! We get to glimpse into his crazy mind and the author did a wonderful Oh Morganville, how I have missed you. We get to glimpse into his crazy mind and the author did a wonderful job of letting the reader understand what he goes through each day.

Sides will need to be chosen and our loyal group of four will find themselves put right in the middle of it. Previous evil villains will reemerge and try to play the game of chess with lives of all. Some you won't expect, others you will. One character will finally die, but I won't tell you which one or how. We will also see the marriage between a vampire and human --Eve and Michael-- come to a major play for this book. Amelie didn't want this marriage to take place for a reason and it will be revealed why in this book.

Shane and Claire will also have their own relationship struggle that will change their outcome as well. Can I just say that what the author gave me as a reader in the last half of the book, was some of the best she has written yet. She wasn't afraid to take the road the fans will hate, but in time I believe it is for the best. There has been build up for this scene throughout the last few books -- if not all -- that finally comes to a climax.

I think I was just as flabbergasted and shocked as the characters. After thirteen installments in the Morganville story, it is great to know that the author can keep shocking me and keeping the story line interesting. For fans of Morganville, do not miss this one. Things are changing and evolving with each new chapter!

The characters are growing up and the grown ups are defined more clearly. You can't read a Rachel Caine book and expect anything else than an action packed, intense and cleverly written plot. Bitter Blood delivered all those things and left me waiting for the next book one more time! There aren't many series that can keep readers hooked after that many sequels So what's more to say? I love the Oh this was kind of weird but good! I love the characters, I love the world this books are set in and I really really like the fact that I've gotten to the 13th book in these series and I still consider the story fast paced and intriguing.

The atmosphere was a bit heavier in this book. Morganville was never a walk in the park, but there was always someone who remained relatively happy. Here I couldn't for the life of me name one person that got it easy or wasn't half-way depressed or mad The gang has been scattered, at least temporarily, and it remains up to Caine how she'll decide to write the end. D Seriously the guy is a mad genius and in here we finally got the chance to look inside his head!

If you plan on reading this series, keep in mind there may be spoilers. Now that they are defeated, it should be a time for calming down and taking a breath. Other things as well, but that is the big one. I still marvel at her imagination that has kept me and probably millions of readers hanging on her every word while reading this series and I am sure her other series as well. She has created a world where vampires are the top of the hierarchy in a small college town, where taxes are paid in blood banks, and where most are never allowed to leave-except the college students that are happily oblivious to the problems that surround them, due to being off-limits to the vamps.

The core characters of Claire, Shane, Michael, and Eve are perfect for this series. The villains are always super bad and in this book, a fairly new character rises to mega villain level. The L word is on the table, but this book threatens to tear apart everything I love about this couple. And I actually think that was one of the worse things about this book. I started out thinking this book was a solid 4.

Narration by Angela Dawe was good. I thought the characters voices were done well, and could only find fault with one voice-that of the vampire Myrnin and I found that one to be almost cartoon like. So 4 stars for narration and I would be happy to listen to her again. Bitter Blood is the thirteenth installment to the Morganville Vampire series. I wish I could say that I adored this just as much as I did the others, but I just can't. I found myself rather disappointed with this one. You don't know how hard it is to give this book a 3 star and not a 5 like the rest of them.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate it and I still had a good time being in this world again, but it felt very off compared to the rest. I can't quite place the why's but maybe it's cause it fe Bitter Blood is the thirteenth installment to the Morganville Vampire series. I can't quite place the why's but maybe it's cause it felt more like we were going in circles and there was hardly any real action.

Or the fact that the banter, wit and humor didn't really cut it. The ghost hunter thing felt more like background noise while Oliver and Amelie's control issues felt like the same old repeated same old. But what got me the most is what happened with Shane and Claire. Is it me or does anyone feel like we just took a huge step back with these two? They've been through so much together emotionally and physically within the relationship and all they had to endure within Morganville itself.

So, why in the hell did they feel so shy and unsure about their relationship now? I mean Shane had that beautiful dream about what they were going to name their daughter and he wants to marry her one day and so on, so why did they get all blush-blush about moving in together or even saying the words I love you? I also hated the way Shane acted. I expected him to be mad but he was upset with the wrong person. I don't blame Claire a bit, it would have hurt me too. I am however proud of Claire. Like always she's proven herself to be a fierce friend and loyal character. She's grown up so much in these books.

I love how she can stand up for herself and the ones that she cares about. The way she deals with madness and can still look at evil in the eyes and say screw you! With that said, even though my feelings are kinda all over the place, I still love and adore this series. True, this one felt all over the place and not consistent with the rest of the books and it also felt flat compared to the rest. But I still love this town. Two more books left and I still wish it could go on forever, but I can finally see where Caine is taking these characters next and a small part of me is actually ready to let them go.

Hoping the next book is filled with chili and tacos. Dark humor and sweet moments. All the stuff that these books are made of. Nov 26, Connie Hebenton rated it did not like it. I found this book very disappointing. This series is probably here read definitely a little immature for me to still be reading now, but I'm a little in love with Myrnin, so I can't understand a lot of the rave reviews on here. To my mind, the series has been going steadily downhill for a few books, now. With this latest installment, not only are there dismal plotholes which I would have thought it impossible for any reader I found this book very disappointing.

Morganville Vampires Cast

With this latest installment, not only are there dismal plotholes which I would have thought it impossible for any reader to miss, no matter how uninterested in continuity they are, but Caine's writing style seems to have changed dramatically, as does her writing of her characters. Might I suggest that she reread the whole series from the beginning? I understand that characters must progress as the story does, but some of them - particularly the vampires - seem to have changed which era they were born in, as well as their main personality traits Not to provide too crushing a review, as I did after all buy and read the book of my own free will, but I found that the whole tone of the book has changed compared to the rest of the series.

Something just seemed off about the whole thing, start to finish, as if the author's notes were in disarray as she was writing, and she missed whole parts of it out along the way. Of course, and this is a sad admission, I will still have to buy the next book, even if only to satisfy my conviction that the series is dead in the water. Which is quite an amusing little pun, if you consider the draug Which, by the way, I think was Caine's fatal mistake - the draug was taking it too far.

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this series to anyone anymore. If you're a poor, abused, misused and bruised Morganville reader like myself, and you are convinced no matter what that I speak mistruths, then by all means read it. And then get out while you still can; it might not be too late for you yet. Find another series, one that won't let you down. Or write MV fanfiction, and pretend that Bitter Blood never happened.
