He's starts out to debase her and humiliate her and make her see that even though she was his slave, she had it good.
And it isn't until she's crying and begging for him to just "love" her that he finally decides to be nice to her again. And it isn't until she admits that she can be perfectly happy being his slave and having no freedom if they can stay together, that he tells her he's already freed her. Looks like love has conditions in this universe and her submission is the condition of his love. This love is all fine and dandy as long as the heroine is on the same page as the hero This is absolutely sick and doesn't resemble anything like love.
And this isn't even where the story ends. She's drugged and set up to look like she's having sex with someone, it's put on video and showed to the hero. He flips the fuck out and kicks her out, without giving her a chance to explain. Again with the conditional love and the "til death do us part" shit. And even worse, after everything he's done to her, she just forgives him.
He's gets on his knees and apologizes and all the months of hurt are just swept away. He doesn't even have to work at it This was probably one of the least romantic things I've read in a while. There are moments that are edgy and kind of sexy, but in the context of a "romance" they don't work. Voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. I really wanted to kick the shiz outta Jareth sometimes. The way he treated her a time or two. However, its just how things are done and its expected but I guess I expected better out of him.
Keliana I do wish she had a bit more backbone than she did. She comes out of her shell a little later. My heart really went out to her. I felt her pain poor thing. I really enjoyed the book even if both characters ticked me off Voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. I really enjoyed the book even if both characters ticked me off a couple times.
I do love this series and its really different from some of the Sci-fi romances I do read. Nobody writes them hotter than Mina. I hope we get more Um yeah I hope we hear more about him or his brother Caleb Given to the Imperial General Series: Kindle Edition My Rating: This is the re-release of a book originally published in under the title Harem Mistress.
There have been no major changes other than the title and cover. I adore science fiction, addicted to heart-pounding adventure, completely smitten with sexy aliens, and a total romance junkie, so when I get it all in one great read, I'm in heaven. And nobody writes super sexy aliens like Mina Carter! I've been a Carter fan for years and love everything she writes. Carter's work includes a menagerie of subgenres and fantastical creatures, ranging from aliens to gargoyles, reapers, shifters, vampires, zombies, and anything in between.
But out of everything Carter pens, her sci-fi romance is one of my favorites! And Given to the Imperial General is no exception. I read this story five years ago when it was originally released as Harem Mistress using the Kindle Unlimited Program. I love Kindle Unlimited but you can only borrow books in the program; you don't actually own them.
I loved this story so much, when I saw it had been re-released, I couldn't wait to purchase it for my permanent library and read it again. Although there have been no major changes other than a new title and cover, I enjoyed it even more the second time around. That alone is quite a recommendation! But let's talk a few details. Given to the Alien General is an exciting, fast-paced, easy-to-follow, standalone novella-length super sexy sci-fi romp filled to the brim with danger, drama, angst, action, adventure, suspense, steamy sex, and dreamy romance. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with multiple perspectives but with primary points of view from the two protagonists, beautiful, exotic harem mistress Keliana and handsome, commanding, and very dangerous commander of the Elite Sector Seven Forces, Colonel Jareth Nikolai.
The dialogue is smart, seductive, well executed, and flows effortlessly.
I do love this series and its really different from some of the Sci-fi romances I do read. I have not read the other release, however it is my understanding that there is little-to-no difference between the two texts. I gave this story an extra star for the tissue factor - how deeply I felt for Keliana and was anguished with what she had to endure. Apart from a minor stance of standing up for herself and giving him hell for all of two minutes, as soon as Jareth says those words, I love you, it is all, oh okay then. Then the emperor gives Nikolai some unexpected news. Voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. I can't believe everything the h had to go through here.
But without a doubt, my favorite element of this erotic tale is the cast of intriguing characters. I was immediately drawn into the story by Keliana, a lovely young woman who was little more than a child when she was sold by her family to become a member of the Prince's harem, condemning her to a life of slavery.
Although she became the Prince's favorite and eventually the harem mistress, Keliana was still very innocent and naive, especially in matters of the heart. As part of the harem, she belonged to the prince and could never be touched by any man other than him. She was trained in the art of pleasing a man but was taught to never fall in love with her master. It would only result in heartache since she was considered to be merely property, a possession that could be traded or sold at the whim of her owner.
Society viewed her as little more than a whore. My heart literally broke for Keliana, a now thirty-year-old woman who had never experienced love. Jareth had been infatuated with the beautiful Keliana since he first laid eyes on her sitting at her master's feet many years ago. Jareth knew he could never touch Keliana much less have her for himself but that didn't stop him from dreaming of someday possessing her as his own.
But fate may have finally smiled upon these two unlikely lovers. Keliana's master was now Prince Sethan who had finally won the heart of his long-time love, Lady Jaida, and they were newly married. Keliana had no idea what her future would be but she prayed she would no longer a slave, to finally be free to make her own choices and live her life without judgment, a life she hoped would include Colonel Jareth Nikolai, a man she'd lusted after from afar for years but knew she could never have.
And it seemed both would receive their hearts' desires after the prince rewarded Jareth for his extraordinary service with a gift of his choice. Three guesses as to what he chose! Yup, he chose Keliana. These two intriguing characters literally exploded from the pages and captured my heart. The sexual chemistry between them was so hot it sizzled! But as much as I loved Keliana, I wanted to throttle Jareth. He was dangerous, domineering, quick to anger, even quicker to jump the gun, and always assumed the worst of people before getting the facts.
But he was a real panty-melter with a dirty mind and even dirtier mouth. Sounds like smooth sailing for Keliana and Jareth, right? Apparently, the universe was conspiring against them. As most of us know, the path to true love is never easy and Keliana and Jareth's journey is fraught with danger, angst, lies, unexpected obstacles, and people determined to keep them apart.
But will they each be strong enough to find their way back to the other? Did I like this book? No, I loved it! No, but nothing that truly distracted me from the story. There were a few instances where the narrative became a little confusing when the point of view changed suddenly mid-scene. Usually, I don't enjoy stories written with anything resembling a third-person omniscient narrative and generally prefer perspectives to be more clearly defined, either by chapter or scene with break designations, especially when there are more than two perspectives and this story did have a third, but the two primary povs were from Keliana and Jareth.
But that's just me. Would I recommend it? You bet, and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain quite a few steamy, dreamy love scenes and a domineering alien alpha hero with a dirty but oh so sexy mouth! It may be a relatively quick read but it packs quite a punch!
If you enjoy sexy romance featuring strong, sexy aliens and the women they love, lightly seasoned with elements of science fiction and sprinkled throughout with danger, action, adventure, drama, and suspense, then this book is screaming your name. Will I read this author again? And finally, was I entertained? I snickered, snorted, sobbed and shook my fists in anger but by the end, I was happy, satisfied, and well entertained!
Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read. This is a hard review because I really, really, enjoyed this book, loved it in fact but it also hurt my heart. The two H's are both awesome in their own ways. This is a bit of a see saw relationship with misunderstandings and stubborn stupidity causing problems.

Keliana has had it tough being a courtesan, even though she has only been with the old king she is still owned and therefore a slave, looked down on by everyone as a whore.
Keliana was a wonderful heroine due to her strength and fortitude to live and survive the life she was sold into as a child. She has known no other life and has no other skills so is not prepared for life outside the palace. Then the hero, Jareth, does the usual head up his butt trick and hurts the heroine badly.
Then to see irrefutable proof she was innocent, must have been torture for him. Keliana was just lucky she had someone help her or she would not have survived on her own. Apart from a minor stance of standing up for herself and giving him hell for all of two minutes, as soon as Jareth says those words, I love you, it is all, oh okay then. Forget all the months I have been on my own struggling to survive due to your pigheadedness, let's get back together and have sex. Loads more grovelling over time should have occurred.
WHO set up and was behind the video? How did they get into the palace? We are not told. Also, why is this titled General when he is only a Colonel?
Maybe we will find out in the next book. Hope Devil gets his story soon. This is my honest review of this book kindly given to me as an ARC. Keliana has been a member of the emperor's harem since she reached adulthood. She was the favorite concubine for the previous emperor even though he was 3 times older than her.
After her emperor died, she became harem mistress for his son but everything changed when the Emperor married his bride and disbanded the harem. Now Keliana is stuck since she can't be sold to another but is unwanted by the emperor. Her life would be completely boring if it wasn't for the flirtation she had going with Nik Keliana has been a member of the emperor's harem since she reached adulthood. Her life would be completely boring if it wasn't for the flirtation she had going with Nikolai the imperial general.
He keeps sneaking in the harem to talk and leave her roses. Keliana wished that Nikolai could be hers. Nikolai has wanted Keliana since the first time he saw her when she first came to the harem.
He wants her for his own but he won't betray his emperor since Keliana still belongs to the emperor. Then he gets called to the emperor and his wife. They want to reward Nikolai for all this hard work and devotion so they offer almost anything he wants. The only thing he wants is Keliana. He brings Keliana home and is confused by her reactions. She doesn't seem happy to be his property. Finally they come to an understanding and have a blissful week together. Then the emperor gives Nikolai some unexpected news. Instead of being the commoner that he always believed himself to be, he learns his dad was a royal which makes him a prince.
Keliana is upset because a prince could never marry a harem mistress. This is a good book with some twists and turns. I felt bad for sheltered Keliana when she was thrown out in the world.
