I don't want to give up the plot, but let's just say, the title says it all. What's interesting, is that it was a best seller in when it was released. I think that's because it was different from what else was on the shelf: I enjoyed reading this book, but then I don't think there's a book in German that I haven't enjoyed. For something by Goethe, it's not too hard, so a good confidence builder for someone like me who is trying to improve my German.
My next book will be Faust, which my German friends assure me is a worthwhile challenge. Werther is a good vocab builder. It was a gift to my niece in Germany.
I have a copy of it myself, and enjoyed it very much. It sort of reminded me of the struggles I endured while trying to get my first shot at acting; I was terrified to make mistakes.
