The Call and Care of an Undershepherd. Preaching for the Rest of Us: Essentials for Text-Driven Preaching. Christian Preaching as Worship. Preaching by the Book: Here's how restrictions apply. Jimmy Draper President Emeritus, LifeWay Adam Dooley and Jerry Vines have taken their combined preaching experience and years of study to produce a resource that walks the preacher through a process for identifying, crafting, and proclaiming the emotion of a text.
Jonathan Falwell Pastor, Thomas Road Baptist Church, Lynchburg, Virginia I am so thankful for a book on preaching that recognizes the role of emotion in preparing and delivering biblical sermons. Emotions are the Missing Exegetical Link When we preach, the question is not if people will feel, but what they will feel.

All opinions are my own. If you want to amp up your speaking engagements and sermons many times we have to reach out to a fellow minister to do just that. My husband ministers every month to a group of people most often than not that are forgotten. He speaks to a group of people that are retired and living in a retirement community.
He along with a few others volunteer here each month. These people are so encouraging and excited to see him as well as other fellow ministers. The look forward to that interaction each week. And I have to admit my husband gains some from being around these individuals that are much more mature than we are. I love hearing their stories and many times we cry tears with them as they share their innermost thoughts, feelings, and prayers.
Such strong people yet so weak and they may have forgotten many things but God is not one of them. The mark of a good sermon my husband relates is that the scripture is exegeted correctly and appropriately for the congregation. Exegeting scripture is where you have basically tore it down and expanded on it and from what I hear, it isn't easy. But lucky for us there are many ministers and pastors out there willing to share their wisdom to help us grow in this area.
Passion in the Pulpit is a great book to help explain many of the notions that we as ministers would like to do but don't really have the knowledge of knowing exactly how to follow through. Passion in the Pulpit is divided into three parts: Each of these points are strong and the authors are able to carefully guide us through this tricky get gainful process.
This book is very helpful and is interesting yet encouraging to those of this that still have a hard time in this area. His only desire was to be faithful to the Scriptures. The intersection of the head and the heart is a subject that is of paramount importance.
A Christian can stuff his mind with theological gold and remain a religious pauper. According to Edwards, there is no dichotomy between the head and the heart. Jerry Vines and Adam Dooley address the important intersection between the head and the heart in their most recent book. How to Exegete the Emotion of Scripture argues that preachers must convey pathos in their preaching. Everything from the need for passion, exegetical tools, and persuasive techniques are offered with the ultimate aim of passionately and powerful proclaiming the written Word of God.
I received this book free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. This title helps serve as a corrective to that neglect and disdain. One chapter that particularly stood out to me was the second chapter, which serves as a warning against personality driven preaching. I would commend this book as a valuable resource for any preacher. It offers practical insight and application in an area of preaching that is often ignored by preachers and writers.

Eduardo marked it as to-read Jun 12, The women of a Memphis whorehouse, that ranges back for when Confederate soldiers were the clients, manage to lure in some zealots who demonstrate outside. But peeping on an outdoor couple makes him seek true love. This was the story of a man — who had announced the coming of the Kingdom of God and who had presumed to offer forgiveness, healing, and an acceptance of social outcasts on behalf of the God whom he called Father — which ended in agonizing execution and an experience of forsakenness by friends, fellow countrymen, and his God. My heart and mind were always stirred as he expounded the truth he lived.
