An Easter sermon CPG dub. The present article offers the editio princeps of a pseudochrysostomian homily on the Beheading of John the Baptist as found in the manuscript Ochrid, National Museum, Inv. The first part of the introduction contains a list of the hagiographical and patristic entries in the manuscript. In the second section we endeavour to identify the patristic and apocryphal sources of the homily and submit the text to a concise literary analysis. One interesting feature of the sermon is the allusion to certain liturgical features for the birthday holiday: The Greek original is accompanied by a French translation.

The thesis presents a study of the literary heritage of Severian of Gabala Ve cent. Four Armenian CPG , , , Two further Appendices are constituted of the Greek-Georgian and the Georgian-Greek lexicons based on the parallel reading of the texts of Severian which are published at once in Greek and in Georgian. The present note is a survey of the liturgical usages and phenomena mentioned by Severian of Gabala in his homilies. Recently published and little known sermons by Severian have been used in the article; each analyzed fragment is accompanied with the bibliographical information on them.

The liturgical documentation consists of a number of quotations in the Ancient Greek original and our Russian translation. The article analyses the historical and geographical data contained in the recently published homily on the Ascension, CPG a. It is ventured to prove that the sermon was preached in Constantinople, in the famous church of Anastasia founded by St Gregory of Nazianzus, and that its author is Severian of Gabala.

The mention of St Paul the Confessor is important for establishing these details. Literary parallels with other lesser known homilies by Severian conserved in Armenian and in Syriac are cited. But is this assumption tenable? The Life of Antony would in all likelihood be read only by the educated elite or by ascetic circles in the Church, and was hardly accessible to the ordinary Christian. More importantly, hagiographical discourse in the fourth century was not restricted to biographies, but pervaded all sorts of Christian literature. This is certainly the case with the writings of St John Chrysostom c. Indeed, what emerges from his writings is a paradigmatic saint who is significantly different from that portrayed in the biographies, and yet equally influential among his lay and ascetic audiences.

Nevertheless, there are also stark differences between the two, and these are the focus of this paper. Five versions of the homily in the Zlatostruy redactions and in the Lenten Homiliary are compared in order to reconstruct the history of the text and the history of the collections. The author reaches the conclusion that the Homiliary is dependent upon the initial Chrysorrhoas collection and that the latter was constituted on the basis of a relatively large number of Byzantine Chrysostomian manuscripts.

Die allegorischen Schreinerarchitekturen des Dem geistlichen Stande entlaufen, hat er vielerlei versucht, in den Jahren — auch in seiner Heimatstadt eine Druckeroffizin gehalten; nach einem bunten Leben ist er in seinem Altershafen Monselice zur Ruhe eingegangen.

Den Traktat des G. Der des Francesco di Giorgio Martini ist in der 2. Jahrhundert gedruckt wurde, der technische Traktat aber erst im Erscheinungsjahre der zweiten Auflage Vasaris selbst erschien. Das Gebiet ist von Kallab besonders eingehend und scharfsinnig behandelt und mit Konkordanzen belegt worden. Von Girolamo da Carpi hat er sich dessen Lebenslauf in Rom schildern lassen; die Mittel des modernen Interviewers sind ihm also schon vertraut.

Bartoli, Florenz, Le Monnier Die Renaissance hat sich diese Anschauungen durchaus zu eigen gemacht. Bracciolini und Leonardo Bruni. Ein Concetto, dessen Herkunft aus der alten Kunstlehre ohne weiteres einleuchtet. Kallab hat auch auf diesem Gebiet mit Vorarbeiten begonnen, aber sein vorzeitiger Tod hat leider nichts zur Reife kommen lassen. Zuccaris boshafte, in ein Exemplar der Viten geschriebene Postillen sind hier zu nennen. So was er in der ersten Auflage von seines alten Lehrers Andrea del Sarto noch lebender erst verstorbener! Das gilt besonders von Cellini.

Das eigentlich urkundliche Material tritt noch kaum in Vasaris Gesichtskreis. Die Frage nicht nur nach Vasaris Autopsie, sondern auch nach der Art, wie er das, was wir heute Stilkritik nennen, betrieb, ist daher sehr belangreich. Von einer Tafel mit dem hl. Will man das richtig verstehen, so ist wiederum an die Technik der Renaissancehistorie und des modernen historischen Romans zu erinnern.

Unter Freunden rede sich derlei leicht herum und Giotto sei eben seiner Erinnerung an Dante gefolgt. Das gilt namentlich wieder von der zweiten Auflage, wenn er sich hier auch in manchen Punkten viel behutsamer erwiesen hat. Wie skrupellos Vasaris Verfahren ist, was diese alten Zeiten betrifft, wissen wir ja bereits aus seiner Behandlung der Villanischen Chroniken. Vasaris Bestreben geht eben immer nach dem plastischen rilievo seiner Personen.

Bei Vasari liegt der Fall anders. Der urkundlich als Cenni d. Wieviel Typik im Sinne des Mittelalters in dieser anekdotischen Form steckt, zeigt sich gerade auch bei Vasari.

Ein kurioses Beispiel mag uns belehren, wie auch dergleichen bis auf unsere Zeit herabreicht. Das bestimmt nun die architektonische Gliederung seines Werkes. So gliederte sich die Darstellung von selbst. Der erste Zeitraum I. Es folgt der zweite Zeitraum II. Die beiden Begriffe sind ja keineswegs neu, schon am Ausgange des Decknamen L'Antico, Il Modernd. Auch die Geschichtskonstruktion des Altertums ist bereits vor Vasari entwickelt und in feste Form gebracht worden. Dann beginnt aber auch mit Naturnotwendigkeit der Abstieg und Verfall , er beginnt mit der Zeit Konstantins.

Auch das ist bis in die neueste Zeit herein, bevor Riegls scharfsinnige Analysen einsetzten, ein Dogma geblieben. Den dreigliederigen Rhythmus der Entwicklung: Es ist, wir wiederholen es, eine Konstruktion rein literarischer Herkunft, aber sie scheint wirklich Vasaris Eigentum zu sein.
