The only problem I had with this book is that Bowlby encourages patients to remember things that they don't remember. The concept of "recovered memories" has been proven false since the publication of "A Secure Base", and the practice has caused a lot of pain to families, and unnecessary devastation. Later, Bowlby clarifies that instead of a therapist suggesting memories in an "I know, I'll tell you" way, the therapist should encourage the patient with a "you know, you tell me" approach.

I think this is somewhat better. This book is appropriate reading for anyone who is interested in attachment theories or attachment parenting but is very scientific, and the jargon may sometimes be distracting to readers who are accustomed to reading texts written to the general public. Occasionally I felt a little lost in a sentence here or there, but I didn't have problems with it overall; I can see how some readers may find it a little dry though.
It often reads like a textbook or journal article because the text was created for Bowlby's peers, not average parents looking for a book of parenting advice.
