Remembering the last moment he felt happy- as a five year old traveling with his marine father living in a base in Japan-he finds himself heading back to Japan to teach English.
Whilst taking a bullet train to a tourist attraction an earthquake occurs. Finding himse The Temporal is a fun book. Finding himself in a hospital room when he comes to, a strange woman comes visits him. A woman he has only seen in his dreams. Named Suteko, she reveals that she has also seen him in her dreams and that he has ability to hear echoes—reverberations of events and people across space-time. Not only this but like her, he can bend the fabric of time to their advantage.
Her appearance marks Sam's foray into a secret world of demons and political intrigue; of high stakes and manipulation, with far reaching consequences. Perhaps the biggest strength of the book is also its biggest weaknesses: The book is moves at brisk pace and has a lot of action setpieces. Yet due to this, the character development of Suteko and Sam feels lacking. Especially considering the two end up falling in love. The relationship in the beginning feels one sided by Sam, making one think it is unrequited love until Suteko actually starts to reciprocate. There is only a few scenes where we see Sam struggling with his abilities and he seems to adapt to then quickly.
And while it tends to be common in stories like these, it is so egregious that his skills seem almost on par with Suteko, whom has much more experience than he does. Despite the pacing, at times it feels like there are scenes and characters that do not contribute much if anything to the story. There was a scene in a library that repeated an event that happened twice beforehand with the villain, Kalieen, tricking Williams.
Not only that, but it leads to a death of a character that is barely introduced in the story. And the death is supposed to signify the stakes being raised since the villain now knows some of the members, but it does not feel that way. It felt somewhat pointless, especially since the villain tricks Sam four times in the same way throughout the book, two before the library. So the villain could already get to them. Speaking of the villain, Kaileen is a pretty fun character.
She is a standard temptress, ruthless villain, but is written in such a way that whenever she appears you know the scene is going to be fun. With that said, we only see her full potential as a villain once in terms of being cunning. She basically tricks the heroes to come after her and when they do, it not only furthers her goals, but also turns the public against the heroes.
I felt that scene was a much better showcase of her deceptiveness than any other scene and it is a shame we do not see too much of it throughout the book. All in all, a decent read if you want a fun little jaunt and have nothing else to do. Aug 13, Bonnie Dale Keck rated it it was amazing. Kindle Unlimited A tremor in time. While there is a fairly good size cast of characters and it seems to take a while for you to figure out how they all tie together, they do, and if you can stay with the story long enough you can see where it all comes together. The basic idea behind the story, there are people who exists that can listen to events, some from the past, some from the future. They can also cause time to freeze in a way for short periods of time. The hero of our story at one point says to his mentor, Excellent book. The hero of our story at one point says to his mentor, 'does that make us superheros?
The people in our story are really superheroes and villains, they just work behind the scenes. The good guys are the temporals, and they exist as freaks of nature, that seem to happen during earthquakes.
While there is some violence it is mostly like you would see in comic books. There is no sexual innuendo, but the hero and his new lady friend seem to it off in a nice way. In other words, this book would be safe for all to read.

I would recommend this to people who like an action book with a touch of sci-fi to it. I received a review copy from the author and have given my honest review of the book. Aug 27, TE rated it really liked it. The Temporal has a slow wind-up but if you can hold out, it turns into a pretty good read. In the beginning you wonder what all these different people and events have to do with each other -- but the author pulls it all together and you realize that you needed all of it for the world building and for the story to make sense.
After that is when you start getting to the good stuff: It's a bit of a different take on the concept of time, how it works and good vs evil. As a who The Temporal has a slow wind-up but if you can hold out, it turns into a pretty good read. As a whole, it was well written and very interesting and I enjoyed it enough that I'll probably read the second book in the series.
Good read for patient people. For those who want to know: This is a clean read yea! May 08, Matt rated it liked it Recommends it for: Fans of the super-natural. This book is not a bad book! It certainly deserves its place in the genre of supernatural thrillers.
A lot of action associated with a high pace, a very good female protagonist vs. Unfortunately, the characterization fall a little by the wayside. Insight into the inner life of people and their relationships among themselves remain superficial. What I personally didn't like so much were frequent repetition This book is not a bad book! What I personally didn't like so much were frequent repetitions, solving the pressing problems "in passing" and the fact that only a small part of the plot is set in Japan at the beginning of the novel.
This part, in my opinion, is the best of the book. I would not advise to not read the book. But don't expect too much nail-biting tension. After her 'lover' comment I'm somewhat intrigued about the history between the two of them. I felt like as the book focused so much on Sam that Suteko was overlooked a little bit beyond his opinion of her.
Also I didn't buy into the chemistry between the two of them because it was as if they had a few dreams about each other, met and then felt like they couldn't live without each other! I think their relationship worked perfectly fine just as working partners in the first book without trying to throw in a rushed attempt at romance.
I'm curious as to how Sam didn't realise it was really Kaileen towards the end of the book rather than Suteko as well bearing in mind he fell for that trick once before and they put in place code words??? Was this an oversight on the part of the author? I would read the 2nd book and I'm interested to find out how things develop and what other powers The Temporal will possess but I'd also probably wait until it is free or at least discounted on my kindle. I've read this book a couple times and still am impressed with it. The story really does hold well it's a fun and enjoyable read. The story just about picks up after the first book but not quite as some time passes in between but that is explained as you go along. Each main character has a unique personality and quite the back ground which builds off what we know and love. Although the introduction of some new characters seems rather abrupt it doesn't seem the do any harm in terms of the story.
Now if you're somewhat picky on things like that then you may be slightly annoyed with a random character to just spring up and join the story. The story also starts to let you into more of the origin of the enemy characters. This is nice as they have the same significant history as the main characters and you can grow to enjoy what the other side offers as well. The Nephloc Enemy infantry rather are a bit more then just the mindless grunt in the army and you get to understand more of how they operate.
Several hints are dropped in the story with out slamming out spoilers of what may come. If you pay close attention you can pick up on these details and have a bit of foresight for what may come which also serves to test your theory as the story unfolds. The ending of the story does seem a bit rushed at first but as you continue to read it's not rushed at all.
You are introduced to an entire new outlook of what is to come as the book is building up to the next phase. It really sets up the next book beautifully and gets you excited for another one to come out. The book really is great especially for the price as it is really inexpensive for a great book which deserves multiple reads. I enjoyed this book very much, and it is a great continuation of the first book in the series, The Temporal.
I enjoyed the ride tremendously!
There are some new characters and I liked them as well. One person found this helpful. I immensely enjoyed this action packed sequel to The Temporal. Vivid descriptions and exiting plot. My only complaint is there are only two books so far in this series. I sincerely hope that the author will add to The Temporal series.
