Some of these stories are recounted in his book, many were not. The Autumn Man is very well written and it definitely holds your attention. I could not put it down before I finished it. Albert has lived a life that few in this world would have survived and the book gives great insight into what a special person he is. The adventures related in the book are, however, are just the tip of the iceberg.

A complete recounting of his life experiences would require a volume 3 times this size. Suffice to say, the book is enthralling and packed with spellbinding stories. One person found this helpful.

The memoir of a man who almost dies as a child in World War 2, but through determination, guts, and some help from the Polish resistance, Albert survived the horrors of the war and went on to a distinguished career in the US Special Forces. This would be a compelling story by itself, but Albert also had a second career as an adventurer and river boat captain on the Amazon.

Along the way, he somehow found time to battle his demons from decades of war and violence, help the native peoples of the Amazon River basin, and establish a conservation organization in Peru. I only wish there was more detail on the time Albert spent in Special Forces, but I supposed that some of this, if not most of it, is classified.

It does so many things right. First of all, I love the characters. There's so much depth to them--the way that Amon evolves throughout the novel is one example.

It was interesting to read about his backstory. I like the complexity of the different characters relationships too, particularly Megan and Christina's. I love Steele's writing style--there are certain scenes in the novel that really stick out to the reader. For example, there was one part of the book that depicts the events for what is presumably a plane crash.

There's a man who smells absolutely terrible on the plane, people start complaining, then the foul-smelling man talks to the flight attendant and hypnotizes her somehow. She wonders why she thought this man smelt bad in the first place because now she thinks he smells good and is just amazing.

She brought him other plane personnel at his request. Then, the book shows a newspaper article describing a plane crash. I just loved that juxtaposition. The entire book is well-written and has scenes in it that stay with you for days. If you're a fan of horror and want to sit down with a good, eerie book, The Autumn Man is for you. Something strange is going on in the sleepy town of Milton. It rolled in with the storm. The same storm that killed Megan's brother, Tom, in a horrific motorcycle accident.

Now there are two men poking around Milton. One being a drifter who has taken up residency as a boarder in Megan's home. Amon may be a handsome, reclusive writer, but he comes with a ton of questions.
