She loves movies and wants to be an actress. She also has dyslexia. Katani is the next one introduced. She wants to be a fashion designer and she's black. Avery adopted from South Korea is up next. She loves animals and sports. The third chapter is from Katani's point of view. She has an 18 year old sister, Candice; a 16 year old sister, Patrice, and a 14 year old sister, Kelly, who is autistic. Fields has gotten it into her head that Charlotte will be Katani's and others new best friend, something which Katani rather strongly objects to, to say the least. The next two chapters are from Charlotte's point of view.
Chapter 6 is from Avery's point of view. There's also some entries from the journals of the other girls. Chapter 7 is Katani's. She asks the teacher to change her lunch group with includes the other girls , but the teacher says to wait another day. Chapter 8 is Charlotte's. And so it goes; I won't list each chapter's writer from here on.
In one of the class assignments Avery brings up a very good point about racism indications on standardized tests. Charlotte and Maeve also come up with good suggestions for the seventh grade. It's obvious that the book will not be just humor but will have some good, practical things in it also.
This is a delightful book to read; lots of humor and well-done characters make it a pleasure to read. There's no great discussions of world problems, no bodies falling out of windows, no moral pronouncements or political diatribes; it's just a fun read.
A really fun read. Jun 09, Maya rated it it was amazing Shelves: I love this book! I have read it about 3 times. She has lived in Australia, Tanzania, and Paris. Her father is a very well known travel writer, and her father started moving around after her mother's death. But now, they are back in Brookline, and Charlotte doesn't want to leave! Maeve Kaplan-Taylor--Maeve dreams of being an actress. Her parents own a movie theater, and her family l I love this book! Her parents own a movie theater, and her family lives above it.
But Maeve has some challenges in her life. She is dyslexic, and she has a hard time in school because of it.
She uses a laptop in school, which helps her. She also gets tutored in math. Avery Madden--Avery loves sports!
This girl does it all;socccer, basketball, snowboarding, you name it! Avery was adopted from Korea when she was just a little baby. Her parents are divorced;her dad lives in Telluride, Colorado, and she lives with her mom and older brother, Scott, in Brookline. She also has another brother, Tim, who is in college. Katani Summers--the Kgirl is a businesswoman. She dreams of having her own line of clothes, called Kgirl. She loves anything that has to do with Math and Science! She has four sisters, Kelley, who is autistic, and Katani shares a room with her, Patrice, who loves sports, and Candace who is currently in college.
Fields, is also the prinicpal of Abigail Adams Junior High!
She is having a hard time making friends, and has grossed out Maeve, Avery, and Katani with her klutziness. They are giving her the cold shoulder, and Charlotte wonders if she ever will make any friends. Then, their teacher, Ms. R, suggests they have a sleepover, and they bond during that sleepover. They find a stray dog, but they must keep him secret, because the landlady that owns the house that Charlotte and her father live in, is allergic!
The girls became best friends had sleepovers, shared a dog and Charlotte lied about the tower and then the lady gave the tower to her and her family. She wants to be a fashion designer and she's black. That is the beginning of realizing that you having an inner source that is your essence, which reaffirms the fact that you are innately good and deserving of being happy, as you attract another individual in your life with the same kindred spirit. The good news is that she didn't go any of those; the bad news is she did something far worse, tangling a tablecloth in the zipper of her pants, standing up and thereby dumping everything on the table at the other people who were sitting there. Maeve Kaplan-Taylor--Maeve dreams of being an actress. I would recommend this book to people who like long books.
Maeve also goes on a date with a very cute boy, Nick, but it doesn't turn out as expected I think this book is a great YA book, and many girls will be able to connect with it. This series is a great series about growing up, and having fun! Aug 02, Sabrina rated it really liked it. The Beacon Street Girls series is a refreshing and simple series consisting of 15 novels aimed at tween-teen girls. Each novel is relativly short, ranging from about pages and has a very interesting plot. This will sound completly cliche, but the girls are just like real life teenagers.
I am wondering if Annie Bryant, the author, is young herself. She perfectly c The Beacon Street Girls series is a refreshing and simple series consisting of 15 novels aimed at tween-teen girls. She perfectly captures the mindset of each girl and there different personalities. These girls do not do any heriocs or such but have interesting lives in middle school, being only years old.
The books focus on friendship, early crushes and growing up. Club BSG experiences the same problems most teenage girls do, heartbreak, annoying parents, first bra etc. They are quick and easy to read plus include some chat boxes and few illustrations. The official website is http: This particular book in the series, the first novel. All of the above. It was about these girls who are all in the same class and group for the beginning of the 7th grade year.
They are all very different from each other and do not want to be friends.
However, their teacher makes them all have a sleepover after an embarrising incident involving Charlotte's pants getting stuck on the tablecloth causing the whole table and all it's contents to go flying in the air and onto Katani's new top. The sleepover is very good and the girls are all friends and learn to appreciate their differences. But when Charlotte lies what will happen? Read this book to find out! Ok, well this book is okay. It's about a girl named Charlotte who moves back to her hometown in Massachusetts after living all over the world for most of her life. On her first day of school, she makes the biggest blunder in school history and it seems like the three other girls, Katani, Maeve, and Avery don't seem to like her much. But somehow, they make friends. They go to Charlotte's house a lot, so I was not surprised when they found a key in the forbidden tower of her house.
Unfortunately, Ok, well this book is okay. Unfortunately, Charlotte has been hiding from the other girls the fact that she and her father are not allowed to go into the tower because the mysterious landlady that owns their house will not allow them to. Also, both Charlotte and Maeve have a crush on this kid named Nick. So anyway, Charlotte is having an internal conflict with herself in deciding whether to tell her new friends about the scary landlady and how they are not allowed to go up into the tower, because she might risk losing them as friends.
That's how far I've gotten. It actually seems kind of good, and I might read more books in the series there's a LOT more. Another thing is that in the part of the book I am reading right now, it kind of seems like the girls are kind of fake because they are making some kind of "Bill of Rights" for their club, and the new rules seem like they are for five-year-olds. I mean, they're kind of obvious. We've been learning about this stuff since kindergarten no offense to whoever. You'd have to read it to understand what I'm saying. But anyway, it's an okay series, and I'm willing to give it another chance.
View all 3 comments. This was a good and fun read about a few totally different girls that cross paths in the most usual way, but will their differences bring them closer together or father apart? What I liked was that this series was nothing like other teen books, instead it puts real stuff in that's both realistic and entertaining. Not only was it a surprisingly fun read but also a very good one in a writer's point of view because the writing was great and overall with good description. I felt as if I were in their shoes the whole time. Which reminds me that I loved how the author went from one perspective to the other and went in a circle around the girls because if it wasn't for all of the thoughts that I could see going on inside their minds, I probably wouldn't have thought the characters were as good. I loved especially Charlotte and Avery, two amazingly done characters. I also liked that the author made the book full of humor and good jokes that can make even a grumpy person crack a smile just like the cute covers: Bryant is a famous author but not nearly as what happy go lucky feeling her books give and as much as she really is a great author.
It's few books that you see with light in them instead of the other way around which sorry if you are a vampire fan or something is the very opposite and I don't know why readers like to read about darkness but it tends to lull many audiences. I was always a fan of light heartet books such as this one and Beacon Street Girls by Bryant sure does a good job.
Aug 20, A. Basically, while this story does function on a "new girl in school" archetype for Charlotte Ramsey, the elements of the BSG and how they're formed move at a realistic pace--for pre-teen girls, anyway. You might be afraid you look lame, but think about it. Would you rather sit at home or do something you enjoy? I started seriously trying to friend myself at the start of college. It turns out, I have a lot okay, literally everything in common with myself.
Those commonalities are fun. Last week, I bought myself a dozen roses after a long day. Ultimately, you can have multiple best friends there is no limit, the limit does not exist!
